Would Your Man Wear These?

While doing a bit of browsing I came across an article about the latest craze from famed women's shoe designer, Manolo Blahnik. He has introduced a line of men's footwear that is unusual to say the least. They feature slingbacks-yes, I did say slingbacks, for men. Somehow, I just don't see this new fashion trend taking off among ordinary men. So, I would like for you to take a look and tell me what you think of one example, please.

I agree, brimia, that they wouldn't go over big with the traditional type of man.

Maybe they would be OK for the "Meterosexual" man, Modestah!

Those shoes look pretty different. Subtle clothing is what usually catches my eye. It excites me to find something I need and know the quality of it. Being comfortable in it, I guess it would all depend on the person wearing it and the type of clothes the person has. 8-)

I would think they could only appeal to those men who are on the cutting edge of fashion, carolbee, such as models and some actor-types, etc.

I saw them in many colors, Ohara, for better variety, I suppose. You can see more of them at www.abcnews.com.

Well they would go with my miniskirt and tights! haha
It just goes to show that most male designers are very feminine, shall we say, and like nothing better the things that girls like.
Anything to be outrageous and catch the attention of the media. All good clean fun really!

I've often wondered why it is that women follow the rules of fashion as dictated mostly be the male designers, smacksman. Some of the styles they come up with look hideous.

Those are so ugly, I have to agree with you I don't see ordinary men wearing those. I know my s/o wouldn't not unless it was for some kind of joke, and then well with his name on them, they can't be that cheap. I'm fairly certain, I don't know too many women that would want their men to wear those either lol

I think they will be worn only by men who are models or some who are in the public eye, palonghorn, as a means of promoting them.

They might become a trend within a certain sector of society, mengchuijie, like the rich and famous or those who like to keep up with the latest trends.

He** no my man wouldnt wear those. My husband is from Puerto Rico. It is hot down there and he still thinks they're too over the top. I read your discussion and called him in to show him the shoes. He said that he doesnt mind Mandals(sandals for men), but those look like he stole my shoes.lol Realistically, Monolo's are expensive and very chic. You may just see some people wearing them for no other reasons but these. I have a hard time featuring Brad Pitt walking out of the airport with Angelina Jolie and their brood, wearing matching slingbacks. Ugh! I have a headache! That's not a pretty picture.lol

I think you're right, dloveli. I stand by my original opinion that they would only appeal to men who run in certain circles.

So true, Adoniah. There will always be some who are willing to wear things that attract a lot of attention-no matter that it is in poor taste.

Hmm ... looks like less leather for more money to me! I would not wear these shoes because they would be pretty useless at keeping out the cold and wet (which is surely one reason why we wear shoes). They would also (inevitably) incite comments from friends and colleagues on the lines of "You need to see a shoe repairer" or "Cutting down on shoe leather, are we?"
Goodness me! Where will this lead? Decollete frilled shirts? Above the knee pinstripe pants? Slashed sleeves? These shoes would need a bit of a heel, really, in order to best display a well-turned calf.
As a matter of fact, fashion does go in cycles and the male dress of earlier centuries was much more rich and colourful than it is today (and has been for the last 200 years or so). I see no reason why males should always be the dowdies but maybe the time is not right yet!

I am very familiar with the fashion trends in menswear throughout history, owlwings, and you are quite right. There has always been "dandies" who choose to dress in an attention-getting style, but i just don't see a lot of men rushing out to buy these shoes.

Well, Aurone, Mr. Blahnik must have felt that there was a viable market for his products out there, LOL.

I heartily agree with you, kykidd. Some things are a bit too extreme.
