I really like my Optometrist. |
|
Because of either money or time issues, I have not been to see my optometrist in five years. I have always found him to be very thorough and informative. Needless to say, in five years technology has moved along quite a bit. I will not go into everything that was new today, but one thing that I was impressed with is the fact that they are taking pictures of the back of my eye, through the pupils, and monitoring my eye health. According to my optometrist, based on what he sees (and he showed me, as well), I do not have cataracts, macular degeneration, diabetes, high blood pressure, or cholesterol build up in my arteries. It was like getting a physical without getting undressed. Are you satisfied with your eye doctor?

1. drannhh (7398) | 2 years ago | I like the part about not getting undressed. I really do like my optometrist and he has all that up-to-date gadgetry, but at the moment I am about 700 miles away from his office. due to time constraints it has been at least 5 years since I went, too, and I keep thinking I should, but then I say, if it isn't broken, why fix it. What I don't quite understand is why the regular doctors do not use this sort of technology at least to double check tgheir conventional diagnoses. Stuck in the mud, some of them seem to be!

3. JoyfulOne (4240) | 2 years ago | That's good you finally got to the eye dr, and more important, that you LIKE him. Glad to hear that your eyes are doing great! I haven't been back to mine for two years now, just after I had my lens implants. I also have those eye photos. I've been getting the pics for the past 10 to 12 years now. They first started doing the pictures when I was found to have borderline glaucoma. They call the pictures their 'baseline', and from there they have an accurate picture of the eye, and if anything is progressing...how much. My glaucoma has been borderline for all these years, not changing enough to where I have to use drops. Eye care is SO important!

4. AmbiePam (15271) | 2 years ago | I am when I get to see her. I did see her 6 months ago, after a three year period where I couldn't afford to come. She told me I couldn't wear my contacts for a whole year, because my retinas were in danger of detaching. Apparently fibromyalgia greatly dries out ones eyes, as well as two medications I am currently on and have to be on. So she thinks waiting one year, constantly putting eye drops in, and keeping my eyes free from contacts, will ultimately let me wear them again. So I'm wearing glasses right now. They give me headaches, but that is just because my head is super senstive. They have already been adjusted. I go to the Dean McGee Institute because they helped my mom so much when she almost had to have a cornea transplant. Eye doctors can save a person's life, I think you are right.

5. arkaf61 (5729) | 2 years ago | Yes, I read that there are quite a few conditions that can be seen by examining the eyes. It also reminds me that I really need to get an appointment to see my optometrist because even though I don't use them - shame on me - at least not all the time, my glasses certainly need new lenses because I can't read the small print anymore even if I put them on.

6. carpenter5 (1870) | 2 years ago | I certainly am. There are two physicians in the same office and I am happy to see either one. Lauren, my youngest, prefers Dr. Neil to Dr. Buttram. I think it is because Dr. Neil is a little older and makes her feel like she's seeing a grandfather. He just seems to put her at ease more.

7. SuzyPuppyChese (567) | 2 years ago | I had a wonderful, thorough ophthalmologist several years back. I just loved her, both personally and for thegood job she did. Then my insurance changed and I had to switch eye doctors. I have not been as satisfied with my eye car since. If I had more money I'd go to her anyway.

8. cjsmom (994) | 2 years ago | I haven't been to an optometrist in about 2 years. I have used the doctor's at Walmart but don't remember them taking pictures of my eyes. I think I'll see what our insurance covers and go to one that has a regular office. I'll be 50 this month and would like to have that type of physical.

9. KrauseHome (13448) | 2 years ago | Well, the last time I seen an Eye Doctor, it was just over a yr. ago. The last one I seen I was quite disappointed with, and I am sure many others have been with her as well. She was the type that told you what you needed to do, and wanted you to do it that way or else. Then when I first got the first pair of glasses she recommended I could not see anything from them, and she yelled at me when I said I could not see, and needed different lenses. So for now, I do not have an Eye Doctor again, and need to think about seeing one maybe sometime this year, as I am Diabetic and I think I should see one once a yr. to make sure my eyes are ok.
