Your opinion on dog hair ribbons?  email this discussion to a friend?

Obviously putting ribbons in dogs' hair makes them look extremely cute (sometimes even too cute) but seriously, it's only for the owner's satisfaction. The dog doesn't walk around thinking "man I look hot with my little pink gingham bow hanging off my ear hair!"

As long as the rubber band isn't pulling on the dog's hair and it's not too tight, it's not really a problem but it makes me think that some dog owners these days aren't respecting the dog for being that, a dog. The dog doesn't care if it's wearing a ribbon, or wearing a bloody tutu for goodness' sake!

However, it's better than seeing an animal neglected.
What is your take on doggy accessories?

Yes as cute as it does look I still prefer to see animals look natural, I am sure dressing up pets is for the satisfaction of the owners not the animal but as you say it is better than being neglected, I guess these pets are the lucky one to have such loving owners.

I think dogs are so cute with their ribbons in their hair. I have a male dog but I have bought him a sweater for Christmas, a jacket with pockets for the winter and he also has an Indiana t-shirt, LOL.

I think the accessories for doggies, shows that we really love them and we treat them like part of the family.

This reminds me of the story someone here posted a few days ago on that woman who got arrested for coloring her poodle pink. She says she used beet juice instead of dye, but I didn't quite like her tone when she spoke of using the dog to get charitable donations and that meant the dog was doing its civic duty. It doesn't seem to me that a dog has any civic responsibility beyond not messing up the sidewalks, maybe. I wouldn't put people stuff on any animal except for the stuffed ones, myself.

I have two dogs of my own and they get clipped every 6-8 weeks. When I first took them to this groomer, she would put a little ribbon on their heads, and I must admit, they did look cute - but I asked her not to do it anymore, because the dogs couldn't care less; it's done for the owners benefit - but not this owner!
I guess it's all a matter of personal choice.

For female dogs I feel as you do, as long as it's not hurting the dog then I'm okay with it but for a male dog, a bow in it's hair? I don't agree with that because it makes him look like a sissy. lol Like he's going to know it or care but still. We don't put bows in little boys hair so why a male dogs? But that's as far as I'd go. I don't agree with dressing an animal up in clothes and such because they don't like it. They try their best to get out of them because they're dogs or cats or what ever they are. Now if it were winter time, a sweater or a coat for them is ok, I'm fine with that so they won't freeze like my Chihuahua and two Chihuahua mixes, they have very little fur to keep them warm so I have little coats for them to wear and they love them believe it or not because they don't get cold.

Ha, a little maltese cross fluffy little thing came into my work the other day and he had a ribbonin his hair! Me and the vets were giving him so much cr@p it was hilarious! He just sat there with a look on his face like "what did i do to deserve looking like a wuss?"

my mum used to work in a cake shop, and every friday would bring a cake home, and our German Shepherd would get the ribbon tied to his collar.

and he used to love it. really used to strut his stuff when he had a bow.

similarly, my dog now acts all smug if he's wearing his coat (very fine coated lurcher, so sometimes needs a bit of protection from cold weather) he also loves wearing his bandana, which he gets to wear when we go for a special day out, like dog shows (just small local charity ones) and going to the beach, or out in town, and gets excited when he gets it put on, as he knows we're probably doing something fun together that day.

while I don't think dogs care what they look like, I do think they like to have anything that makes them feel special. like they've got one up on the other dogs.

another dog we had used to panic if we took his collar off to clean it. he'd be trying to get it back off you until the moment you put it back on him. so I also think dogs have quite a strong concept of ownership.

although I've never encountered a dog that seemed too happy about hairbands. some didn't like it, but none of them seemed excited about having it added.

I always find it highly amusing when I see a dog all dressed up, where I live not many do it but every so often you will see one with silly bows or coats on. I have enough to do in a day without having to start dressing my pet up as well, not that I have any at the min anyway. Mind you saying that I did have a persian cat once who had long blue fur, he was a male but one day I put his hair up in lovely bobbles, I showed him in the mirror and he sat and growled at me until I took them out, he was definately not amused.

I Think it looks pathetic, they walk around and it really annoys me.
Looking at the owner, i just want to laugh, to imagine how they could possible think that the dog looks good with a stupid bow

I think it is cute but dogs are dogs. If we had an owner would you like to have ribbons on your head just to satisfy them.

I think they are adorable with their little bows (if they are girls). My daughter has 2 little pomapoos and she dresses them up all the time (no kids yet). They went to the Halloween party all dressed up (one as a witch and one as a clown). I say "go for it!"
