Bisquick |
|
Bisquick is one of the packaged foods that I really advocate using - a convenience mix to be certain, but it does not contain any bizzare ingredients but just the stuff I would use when making a food from scratch. What are some of your favorite recipes with bisquick? ours are the baking powder biscuits and those impossible pies are fun the kids like the pizza and everyone loves the coffee cakes here is a link to a pie filling coffee cake from bisquick - quick easy and delicious http://www.bettycrocker.c... cherry swirl coffee cake

1. AmbiePam (10021) | 5 months ago | I like to use them as the base for little pizzas. Small circular 'pizza crusts' that anyone can decorate and make specifically to their tastes. Just sauce and cheese, or if someone wants ham, bacon, or whatever, they can fix themselves a quick and easy snack or meal.

2. mari61960 (2948) | 5 months ago | I love Bisquick, there are so many things you can make with it., I absolutely love the cheeseburger pie on the box. I add some bacon to it and it is great. I also love the simple drop biscuits with grape or strawberry jam. I have been making them since I was about 10. It was one of the first things I made as a kid. I would even use it in my easy bake oven.

| 3. Graagh (93) | 5 months ago | Bisquick is wondrous! Pretty much anything you want to make, you can make it with bisquick pretty easily. Pancakes and waffles, of course, are the simplest, but the biscuits are really good too. I also make pigs in a blanket using dough from bisquick. It is a quick and simple way to make a yummy lunch. It does dessert too; I made cobbler using bisquick too. I'll admit it then: I love bisquick...

Modestah (7288) | 5 months ago | Pigs in a blanket... now that is what I have heard Galubki (stuffed cabbage) called - as you wrap the pork inside the cabbage leaves like a little babe in a blanket... but I have also heard of hot dogs or little pork sausages wrapped up in dough called the same... interesting

5. deebomb (6423) | 5 months ago | Have you ever thought about making your own bisquick mix? it is simple and cheaper then buying it. Best Biscuit Mix 9 cups Cake-and-pastry flour 1 cup Skim milk powder 1/2 cup Granulated sugar 1/4 cup Baking powder 1 tbl. Salt 2 tsp. Baking soda 1 lb. Shortening In large bowl, stir together flour, milk powder, sugar, baking powder, salt and baking soda. Using pastry blender, cut in shortening until mixture is in fine crumbs. For storage: transfer to airtight container; store in refrigerator for up to 2 months. http://www.cyber-kitchen....

6. crazynurse (5648) | 5 months ago | Disclaimer: Please do not take my response as rude or sassy! No, we no longer use Bisquick in our food preparation. Believe me, I used to swear by it and use it often. However once both of our local cardiologist and our hospital's dietician explained things to me about transfat, I no longer use Bisquick. It is among many other products that have been stripped from our kitchen! Trans fat acts pretty much like plastic in our arteries. It is the worst of all plaque and even strips out our good cholesterol! (the the type that helps with vitamin absorption) We should not have ANY in our diet, but that is so hard to achieve and probably unrealistic. However, what is terrible is that food manufactures HIDE the transfats now in the ingreidents list by using words other than 'hydrogenated' and p'aritally hydrogenated'!!! Bisquick has a lot of trans fat per serving so it isn't worth it to me to feed it to my family. I have a link below that tells how to use the NUMBERS on the nutritional information for decyphering fat content rather than trying to trust the WORDS!!! http://www.sfgate.com/cgi...

Modestah (7288) | 5 months ago | oh wow! crazy nurse, thank you for the heads up. Do you happen to know if one was to use lard instead of veg. shortening - if the trans fats are still present?
| |
|
|
crazynurse (5648) | 5 months ago | From what I under stand Modestah, the commercial lards such as Crisco, are terribly unhealthy. (loaded with transfat due to being hydrogentated in order to extend shelf life). If I understand things correctly, home-rendered lard is okay. Of course, it is pure fat, but at least not laden with transfats!

pergammano (657) | 4 months ago | Thank you for this information! It is very helpful! I can't remember the process, but we used to render lard when I was growing up. Can you refresh? Thank you. Cheers.

10. oneandonemakesix (24203) | 5 months ago | You are so right Bisquick is a very easy and versatile thing to use, and if you are an a user of bisquick sometimes people look at a recipe and see that there are 4 things in the recipe that are found in bisquick, so they use that instead... I think shortcuts like bisquick are great and I have used it to make quick easy meals like Chicken pot pies, or cheeseburger pies when I was desperate for dinner ideas. Mooch
