Profanity on MyLot |
|
I just happened to visit a few of my friend's profile pages to leave some uplifting comments like I often do. I came away from the last one shaken up by a comment that I found there. Someone had left a comment on this young woman's page that contained the "F" word at least once in every line(about 10). This shocked me so badly that I became distracted to the point that I made a mistake in trying to retrieve my comment. When did myLot start allowing such behavior? I think it is shameful, and I am wondering if the person knows of the comment that has been placed on her page.

3. sherrir101 (2910) | 6 months ago | I did not think that MyLot did condone such language. I mean, we get "carded" for Mature Content for simple things as names and discussions about chicken and such. The person probably does not know. if it were me, I would PM the person to let them know.

4. foxyfire33 (5572) | 6 months ago | Wow, that's awful! I hope you were able to inform your friend of this, I know I don't check my profile nearly often enough and something like that could be on mine for days and day before I'd know. It's probably not something mylot can detect. I've gotten comments off other sites that didn't have the actual words within the code. If that was the case with this one the system couldn' have known to block it.

5. stephcjh (11989) | 6 months ago | Oh really? I hope things like that is not on my profile page. that would make me very upset and I would ask Mylot to remove it. I get tired of seeing nude pictures also. That is nasty and not acceptable here for me. I would not allow either one here.

worldwise1 (4949) | 6 months ago | I'm thinking, stephcjh, that she either has not seen the comment, or, since English is a second language for her, she doesn't have a clue. I thought it would be best to let admin handle the situation. I often don't visit my profile for days at a time, but this had made me rethink that.

stephcjh (11989) | 6 months ago | Yeah. I would let Mylot take care of it. I hope they do something about it. I usually don't visit my profile often either. Someone spammed me there recently though and I really hate that. There is a big list of referral links on there.

6. mummymo (10500) | 6 months ago | I didn't think that was allowed here! I am not a prude in any way and I don't mind swearing but I have never seen it on a profile page! I wonder if she knew it was there? xxx

worldwise1 (4949) | 6 months ago | I know that it definitely isn't allowed, mummymo. I have to guess that it somehow got past the censors.

8. MAMABLAZE (156) | 6 months ago | I am still new here and didin't realize you could put a comment there. I don't often check my profile and have only looked at a clouple of others. Needless to say I have been told I use the F word much to much in my life. However I am careful not to use it here and try to curb my enthusiam when it might be offensive to those around me.

9. cortjo73 (2069) | 6 months ago | That's not cool! I guess if you want to curse at someone, keep it in a PM but, not on their profile page. Unless she doesn't care. Did you call her attention to it in a PM to her? And, as far as a curse word. Was it actually the F word or a replacement, less offensive F word like "freakin or Frackin'" People should be more respectful of what other people might read here. I am no prude. I can sometimes drop the f bomb in my life off of myLot...but not here. I am sensitive to what others might think. I would PM her and ask her if she noticed it was there. I sometimes go for days before I visit my profile page. I went for a week once and didn't notice someone had left me a comment until I made a visit to my profile page and saw it there. So, she may just rarely visit her own page. Try calling her attention to it and see what she says. She can delete it herself or, maybe she just doesn't care! It could be an inside joke best left inside that made itself outside! Who knows?

worldwise1 (4949) | 6 months ago | I'm not a prude either, cortjo, in any sense of the word, and I can hold my own with the best of them when it comes to talking down and dirty, but this forum is not the place for that. The myLotter who posted that offensive comment didn't just dance around the actual word -it's there for anyone to see should they visit the page. I felt that admin should be advised about the situation.

cortjo73 (2069) | 6 months ago | I agree! I don't think this is the forum for such profanity either! I hope you reported it to the admin. Did you also call it to you friend's attention? I don't get why people have to be vulgar.

10. Anhedonia (1779) | 6 months ago | You could PM them if you think they don't know. I think it's inappropriate on myLot, personally. But I would let them report it for themselves if they want to.
| |
| |
|
|
worldwise1 (4949) | 6 months ago | As contributing members of myLot, Anhedonia, it is our responsibility to report offensive things when we come across them. There are many members here for whom English is a second language and they might not even be aware that a word is offensive. I cannot imagine why she would choose to leave such an unpleasant comment on her page, so I assume she didn't know.
