Dinner's Ready! The Smoke Alarm Just Went Off!

the good part is that nothing was damagd and no one was hurt.......but i guess it is high time for u to giv it for a servicing.......or brtter still to go for a new oven.

That's funny! But on a serious note, I think replacing the thermostat and getting the oven replaced would probably be a good idea. You wouldn't want to burn the house down accidentally.

I'm GLAD I didn't set off the smoke alarm, I put a frying pan on the burner and all of a sudden the burner started smoking, I hadn't spilled, so somthing must have been on the bottom of the pan, because the little catch pan under the burner was on fire, and when I put a different frying pan on the burner, it was fine.

So I almost had the smoke alarm going off.

I'm glad that there was no fire, but I hope your oven can be serviced, if not time for a new one.

Have you moved into the house I grew up in during high school? We always knew that my friends dad was done making dinner when the smoke alarm on the second floor went off and not a minute before.

Yup, sounds like it's needing something fixed. I worked in a group home one time that anytime we used the oven the smoke alarms would go off... it was so annoying and because of company regulations, even though we knew it was nothing...every time we would all have to go outside in case it was the real thing....lol boy was that annoying. Then of course there would be a fire drill log completed and behavior problems from the interruption... and they all knew that it wasn't a fire.. try explaining this stupidity to a retarded person... Heck it didn't make sense to me... how would it make any sense to them... ah well after about a year the company finally agreed that the smoke alarms were not in good places as just oven heat set off the kitchen, hallway and living room ones....jeez no fun.

I had this happen to me a few weeks ago for the first time, too. I had made spaghetti already and put some garlic bread under the broiler. Walked away for TWO minutes, as I often do because it usually takes 5 or 6 for it to be finished, and when I opened that door... whooosh, out came the smoke.

In the amount of time it took me to think "drat, that smoke alarm's going to go off!" it was already beeping. Good news is that I know now how well it works.

For the record, it was mostly just a smoke event and I don't know why... the bread wasn't burned at all... and we still enjoyed the meal!

I would definately be considering getting the Oven serviced or get a New stove. I would not think having a kitchen fill up with smoke everytime you cook being something good. I would actually think you would not want to have to Breath in all of those fumes everyday as well. Good Luck with this issue, and getting your oven fixed.

You know ... they make neat little timers, wind-up and electronic, that work much better than using the smoke alarm!

I agree with you..you should have it serviced..Ours goes off from time to time and we start opening the windows and turning the fans on..Always happens when we are cooking with grease...At least you know they work, and that is in your favor..

LOL I remember one of my cousins saying they only liked burnt food because it was all they were used to!! I also use dto work with somone who used to burn toast on purpose then leave it out on the conter and when she went home after work or at lunchtime she would eat it then, cold, with butter on - yukky!

I do try not to burn food as it is unhealthy and does not always taste that good but sometimes, what with trying to keep the children away from the cooker and having other chores to do, I do sometime burn things.
