An Explosion of Pink, and more of My Sins....

I admit it, I used to not put the lid on things. Apparently it started young, and even though I have arthritis (I'm 27), I will tell you I could have put the lid on things a lot sooner in life, I just didn't. One night about ten years ago I was apparently asleep when I heard a really loud 'Uh-ugghhh!' Followed by, "Shoot fire!" I met my mom in the hallway and we followed the sounds to the kitchen where I witnessed my dad standing by the sink, covered in Pepto Bismol. Yes, he was entirely pink. Apparently a few nights prior I had not put the lid on soundly after I was finished with it. I truly thought I had though, although I always seemed to 'really' think I put the lid back on. Best of intentions and all that. Well, my dad had decided to get some Pepto, and after he reached for the bottle, he did what the instructions say, he shook it up. And it ALL came out! So after that, for my own personal safety (my dad only now smiles about this ten years later), I began to put the lid on things. Toothpaste, Tylenol, pickle jar, I have it down. OK fine, I don't always put the toothpaste lid on, but I live alone, it's OK, right? Anyone like me, or at least annoyed BY people like me?

That is way too funny I love it. My hubby does this stuff all the time. He loves to say oh sit down ill put the leftovers away. So the next day I go to get some leftovers and lo and behold he didnt cover it so its all dried up. Makes me so mad cause its a waste of food.

That is one thing I don't do. I am so careful about food. There is nothing worse than going to get cheese that is now really hard. Yuck!

I am laughing right now about your dad getting covered with Pepto Bismal. Poor guy. I am not like you, but I think I would be annoyed to an extent by people like you. I think maybe I should check the lids on things before I shake them just in case from now on.

Oh nooo! This happened to me as well recently. I got bit by something outdoors doing some spring prep of my yard etc. So I went to the medicine chest for the calemine lotion to ease the itch of this bite. Of course I shook it and lo and behold pink was everywhere as well. Took me an hour to clean the bathroom walls, mirror, and floor. My wife did not screw the cap on tightly. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I always put the lids back on things , but sometimes I have trouble getting things on right, like those glad food storage containers. I think it's because I reuse them so much, that the lids don't fit as well. I'll go to get one out of the fridge, and I'll drop it, and then everything goes on the floor.

Ambie, if you were my daughter......... I always put the lid on everything..My husband doesn't put the lid on his toothpaste, but because we used different brands, it is all on him if he wants his toothpaste to dry up..

My niece was one who liked ot leave lids off of things or only half twisted on and when we went to pick things up it would fall. Like the Miracle whip, coffee, and even the toothpaste. told her it wasn't good to do since we had ants but after she got a tooth brush full of ants..lol she was more careful about putting the lids on things. My husband thankfully always puts the lids on things and ties. My nephew and mom always leave the bread ties off and so we lift the bread and most of it falls in the floor. So we try to be more careful and check things when they have been there.

When my family has been around it is best to check most things out, and only pick up jars from the sides or bottom, not from the top. mom folds the bread under itself still with ants or other creepy crawlings the last thing you want is them in your food especially with the hi paying prices we have to pay now days. My nephew though just leaves everything open and on the counters as though it is someone elses job to put it away.

I have to say I have always been good about making sure the bread was taken care of. I hate getting hard or moldy bread when I've just purchased it.

He was upset, mostly because he was sleepy and already had indigestion. However, in the morning when he woke up, he thought it was hilarious. Of course that was after his indigestion was gone.

Oh my... I'll bet your dad was really amused, but had to hold it back! I've done something similar... almost a year ago. I take a three-berry juice which is in powder form, regularly. You have to mix this powder with water and the most effective way I could think of mixing it was by putting it in a shaker mug, which has a screw on lid, and a lift up flap which reveals a drinking hole. Well, I put the water and powder in and screwed on the lid, all very carefully, but I forgot to put my thumb over the flap. I shook the mug vigorously, and yeah, you guessed it, the flap shot off and the juice went all over me... it was in my hair, on my face, up my arms and all over my front! It was a burgundy colour and quite thick, at that! I put it down to a blonde moment, but I've been very careful with it since. Brightest Blessings.

Oh my, your poor dad, . I can honestly say that I have put the lid back on everything so something like that didn't happen. Nor, do I know anyone that has ever done that. That would bring up good laughs years to come. I wonder if your dad gets cap fear when your visiting, I can just imagine him jokingly saying did you screw the lid on tight this time, .

I have to say that when I'm at his house and he finds something without a lid, he does first accuse me. So does my mother!

Aww, I hope it's in a joking manner that he accuses you about the lids. Same with your mom,.

The words "think pink" just came to mind. We have a big problem with this in my house because Bruce doesn't tighten 'any' lid. For what reason, I have no idea. We just talked about this yesterday. Today it was the soy sauce and later, the blue cheese salad dressing. I have to follow that man around like he was a child.

By the way, you aren't to young to have arthitis. My daughter has had it since she was 1 1/2 years old. It's a pain in the rear for anyone.

I know that, but my doctors take some convincing (they always seem to think my arthritis was misdiagnosed. Oh brother!)

Your story reminded me of an incident at a restuarant once. I was shaking up my steak sauce and someone had not put the lid on right. It came off in mid-shake and doused me good in steak sauce. It ruined my evening. Not only do I appreciate people putting lids on to potentially save someone else a shower they weren't counting on, but the lid helps keep whatever is in the container fresh, so that one is also protecting the product their investment in the product when they put the lid back on.

I am guilty of this on occasion! But the funniest thing that happened was like your experience. My daughter was going to college so my son and I picked her up to bring her home for the weekend. We decided to stop and eat....well my son had to shake the ketchup...and the lid came off....all over the booth, curtains, blinds and his sister! Now she is usually pretty prissy but that day she just laughted....even though she had a brand new white shirt on!

My wife leaves the cap off the toothpaste and I don't even care. She leaves lights on when she leaves a room and it doesn't bother me. But...she bites her nails. For some reason, that bothers me.

LOL I bet your dad is glad you outgrew that huh? My younger brothers used to have a habit of that when they were younger...I was always the one to lose the caps off the jugs. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

OMG! That is sooooo funny! I have 4 kids, so sometimes the lids don't always get put on things properly, but I do try to get back and fix it up. I think the salt shakers are the true classic! lol.

Haha! This reminds me of dinner a few months ago in our house. My sister was making herself a burrito, and she used some hot sauce, and then just placed the lid on top. I guess she was in a rush, because she just wanted to get that burrito in her face. My boyfriend was next to grab the hot sauce, and he shook it, and hot sauce flew all over him, me, the wall and floors. It was hilarious, I thought, and immedietly started laughing histerically. He didn't find it so funny, but oh well, he got over it. I get a little annoyed when people do this kind of stuff, but hey, you may have something on your mind that prevents you from doing the little things. I know I've forgotten before, and it's usually because I'm stressing about something.

Your annoyance would be totally justified. I try to actually think about putting the lids on things tightly because I know if it happened to me, I wouldn't find it so funny. So if it is hard to put a lid back on, I ask for help. Anything after the Pepto disaster! Thanks for sharing!
