Which Era Would You Prefer To Be Living In? email this discussion to a friend?

myLot reputation of 92/100. zed_k4 (903)   ranked 1,157 out of 26,366 in life5 months ago

A very nice day to all, here is a discussion that I would love to know from you guys. There are lots of movies on the "lost" time and stuff like that. Whenever I watch movies like Pearl Harbor and other forms of war movies, I am truly inspired and felt that the heroes that sacrificed were really the real heroes in our lifetime, and if I could go back to an era, I would choose for an era decades ago where I would be read about in history books for my heroic acts. That's my fantasy.
What about you? For ladies, do you picture yourself in the era of Marilyn Monroe or Elvis?? Or would you prefer to live in the Victorian Era where ladies where all nice costumes and all that? Or would you prefer to be in another dimension of aliens and all that like some of the movies show?

I'd like to go back and fight is WW II. Although I say that now but if I actually did have the ability too go back I'd probably end up regretting it.

That is pretty heroic, my friend. Thanks for your comment..

I loved the 80's. I loved the clothes, the makeup, the music, the carefree attitude, the stupid movies. I loved that we were not all scared back then. It was a time of prosperity even though it ended up being over inflated, but ignorance was bliss and it was a fun decade to live in.

myLot reputation of 92/100. zed_k4 (903)   ranked 1,157 out of 26,366 in life  5 months ago

Hi there ladym33, -smiles- ..I love the era of the 80's as well. It was like the moment of truth whereby everyone is trying to find a niche for themselves and yes I agree with you totally, life was more carefree back then. Thank you for posting.;)

heavens_gift17 (85)   ranked 4,025 out of 26,366 in life  5 months ago

i love the 80's and thank God I was born and grew up in this era. I get to experience the clothes, music/sounds, etc. Play and fun are very much physical in nature unlike today that almost all kids greaw up sitting in front of computers playing games and all.

myLot reputation of 92/100. zed_k4 (903)   ranked 1,157 out of 26,366 in life  5 months ago

I love the era you have mentioned as well and would love to get back there for a bit of fun, LOL..

Easy. I love the style and elegance that the 1920s had to offer. I would definitely want to live in that era.

myLot reputation of 92/100. zed_k4 (903)   ranked 1,157 out of 26,366 in life  5 months ago

Hi Sonadora, 1920s is indeed very cool and full of nice elegance and great sense of fashion like you said. I would love to have a time machine to go back there for a bit and check the clothes out, LOL. Thanks for your input on this.

myLot reputation of 97/100. Sonadora (212)   ranked 1,581 out of 26,366 in life  5 months ago

For sure, I love the flapper dresses, and of course the jewelry. 1920s is a very distinct era in jewelry. Oh, and the parties. Would have been so much fun.

myLot reputation of 92/100. zed_k4 (903)   ranked 1,157 out of 26,366 in life  5 months ago

WOW!! 1920s is simply a fun decade for women to live in; full of beauty and fashion. I would really love to see the lovely ladies back then, must be really sweet, ha!

myLot reputation of 97/100. Sonadora (212)   ranked 1,581 out of 26,366 in life  5 months ago

Oh yeah, I'm sure it was sweet. To me, the 1920s is even more glamorous than Hollywood in the 50s. But that's just my opinion of course.

myLot reputation of 92/100. zed_k4 (903)   ranked 1,157 out of 26,366 in life  5 months ago

So, let's find a time-machine and get back there in time for a bit, LOL..

I would like to live in the era where Jesus Christ in the flesh had walked the earth. I wanted to be a spectator of his miracles and one of his disciples following him wherever he went.

myLot reputation of 92/100. zed_k4 (903)   ranked 1,157 out of 26,366 in life  5 months ago

Oh yes, I've never thought about that; of how being in an era where we could each be a follower to our own messenger of God. That is so honorable, thanks clowdine for your comment..

I've always thought that, although times were hard then, I would like to go back to either the Dark Ages, or the Middle Ages. In fact, I'm not so sure I wasn't here in a previous life in either one, or both of those eras.

Just think how much green space there was then. Ok, there were castles and a few huts, people had to hunt, and work the land, and there were lots of battles. But, I think that compares very favourably with today's world... everything is so rushed, and money is such an issue that the world has become materialistic, rather than valued, as it was then.

Brightest Blessings.

myLot reputation of 92/100. zed_k4 (903)   ranked 1,157 out of 26,366 in life  5 months ago

Hi bro, thanks so much for your comments. You have highlighted a very important issue; the greenery and the nature! Yes, I agree totally, it was more luscious and filled with nice sights and smell of greenery. I really want to be experiencing that; as shown in some of the pictures I came across.

I totally agree with you that nowadays, the world is filled with materialistic needs and people that I wish that I could go back to that kind of era you described as well. But then the battles were something that had to be faced. There are pros and cons definitely. Thanks bro for your comments; appreciate it so much.

myLot reputation of 97/100. Darkwing (5790)   ranked 7 out of 26,366 in life  5 months ago

I live in a little village in the countryside, with a part Saxon part Norman church, which stands on a hill. In Saxon days, my whole County was forest land, and much of that survives today. I'm not too far from Stone Henge, an ancient megalithic monument constructed from stone, and I can always be at one with nature, by stepping out of my door.

But for the traffic and the cost of housing, I love this way of living, and often sit and think back to the times when it was a Medieval village, or a Saxon forest with just a few buildings on the ridges. That all appeals to me greatly.

Thank you for this discussion, my friend. It's made me quite nostalgic... I love English history. thumbup

Hi my friend, I love English history and European ones as well and I must say that you are really lucky to be brought up in such a nice set of environment. There must be really some good and gorgeous landscapes over where you live.

You are certainly welcome, and let's hope that nature is preserved shall we..

myLot reputation of 97/100. Darkwing (5790)   ranked 7 out of 26,366 in life  5 months ago

Yes, I consider myself very lucky, my friend. You're right, there's some great scenery in my country and also, I lived in Germany for three years, where there was also some great, historic scenery.

I'll post you a picture that I've taken on my travels about England, so you can see for yourself.

There's simply no words to describe the amazing thoughts of looking at these pictures, what more to watch it live. Thanks for sharing these lovely pictures. I truly appreciate it so much.

myLot reputation of 97/100. Darkwing (5790)   ranked 7 out of 26,366 in life  5 months ago

I can describe to you how I felt when I was there, in a sentence.

"Being in these places, at one with nature, gave me great spiritual comfort and peace of mind."

How about that? happy You're quite welcome to the pictures, and if there are any more you'd like to see, like Stone Henge, and Wayland's Smithy, which are a megalithic stone circle and an ancient burial chamber, respectively, then I'll be happy to show them to you. Take care, my friend.

myLot reputation of 92/100. zed_k4 (903)   ranked 1,157 out of 26,366 in life  5 months ago

I truly appreciate it, my dear friend. Perhaps you can start a discussion on this and post some nice pictures like the ones you have mentioned. Thanks and take care. I really appreciate your input on this topic, really.;)

myLot reputation of 97/100. Darkwing (5790)   ranked 7 out of 26,366 in life  5 months ago

I've done Stone Henge before, my friend, so I don't think I ought to do it again. Perhaps I'll start a discussion on Ancient Sites in Britain, in general. I'm not sure about Wayland's Smithy, but I had a very strange experience there that might be worth writing about.

Thanks... It's always nice to be appreciated, and thank you for your support in my discussions too, my friend.

I've had dreams since childhood of being back in, what I think was the Georgian era.. 1700s. I always wanted to be there. I suppose that would be the era I would choose, if I were to choose another era.

myLot reputation of 92/100. zed_k4 (903)   ranked 1,157 out of 26,366 in life  5 months ago

Ah, the Georgian era, that is really awesome, curlyred. I love those era as well and if I'm correct, the costumes that time were really gorgeous. Thanks sweetie for your comment, truly appreciate it.;)

i thinki would have liked living in the day when it was cowboys and indians. They all lived such a simpler life and people actually trusted one another. I would have loved to farm and quilt.

myLot reputation of 92/100. zed_k4 (903)   ranked 1,157 out of 26,366 in life  5 months ago

That is a really nice era, I would love to be in that kind of environment and time as well. Thanks for your response. That is something new...-smiles-

maybe the 24th century on the spaceship enterprise would be nice. I like that series, and I am fascinated by space travel.

LOL, I would like to be in that era as well since I am also very fascinated by space travel and all.

I wouldn't want to be in a time before they had the internet for a whole lifetime. It was good when I was young and poor that it had not been invented yet, as that would have been just one more exciting thing I would have to have done without. Sometimes it is so much easier to do without things that not every body else has either. Like when I was a school child we didn't have running water or central heating. But although many of my classmates did, othersewere like me. Being the only one without an internet connection would be just too much to bear! I am wondering how I will do being away for myLot for just a couple weeks. Changes are I will live and look you up when I get back, lol.

myLot reputation of 92/100. zed_k4 (903)   ranked 1,157 out of 26,366 in life  5 months ago

Awwwww drannhh, I sure would miss your discussions and your replies to my post should you be away for a couple of weeks from mylot. Then you will have to do whatever you are doing quickly and come back ONLINE, LOL.

By the way, I enjoyed my younger days as well and I felt that life was truly much simpler back then with no materialistic things to boast about. People tend to compare in this era and we have to strive to prove that we are materialistic worth of things. How sad.:(

I actually have always found the Victorian era truly beautiful as far as how they dressed but, to be quite frank, I think I would rather stay in this era. I have more freedoms as a woman in this era than I would back in another era. I can vote, work and just be a human instead of a protected, rightless doll that can't take care of herself and live freely. I would not rather step backwards. In fact, if I could, I might like to step forward a few decades or so to see how much more advanced women are in the future.

Now, don't get me wrong. I am not a feminist really. I just like my freedoms that the women in the past had to fight to afford me. But, the clothes they wore were so lovely. However, from what I understand, they were quite painful with the corsets and how heavy they were. I like my comfort now! I think I'll happily chose to stay here in 2008!

myLot reputation of 92/100. zed_k4 (903)   ranked 1,157 out of 26,366 in life  5 months ago

Hello cortjo, thanks for your response. I love Victorian era as well, but you are right, there's not much freedom for women during that time based from the books that I've read the movies that I've watched. No worries, I won't be labeling you as such as I think women are more advanced and have a more mature thinking nowadays. Better than the ones that were in the past. Yes, I love seeing their clothes and the guys looked all smart and dandy, ha!

Thanks for responding. I think to live in 2008 is fine too by me, lolz...happy posting there..;)
