Prescription Bottles |
|
Prescription bottles come in all sorts of sizes, are usually (for me anyhow) an amber colored plastic with a child proof lid. What do you do with your emptied bottles? Do you use them to store anything else? my girls like to use them to put delicate flower cuttings in and decorate my bathroom counter. my husband likes to use them to capture spiders in I like to use them to store little bits and pieces. my giant ones store such things as staples, pins, nails and all sorts of odds and ends.

1. peavey (1900) | 4 months ago | Empty prescription bottles are handy for storing anything small, or carrying something like generic Tums in your purse. My pharmacy doesn't give the bottles back any more, though.

Modestah (7401) | 4 months ago | and my pharmacy will not accept the bottles back. I tried once - thinking it would help cut costs greatly if they had a recycle program - but they do not. I was advised to contact my local refuge facility and see if they would take them. maybe they are concerned about trace particles of medication mixing with a contraindicated med... but you would think that could be sterilized out of the bottle. but then, meds are not germs. hmmm.

peavey (1900) | 4 months ago | Well, I don't know that the pharmacy recycles them, I was thinking they just throw them away. I should ask next time.

Modestah (7401) | 4 months ago | for me it is a toss up between a distaste for clutter and an abhorrence for waste, I guess. well, at least the bottles can be used to organize against things that like to clutter about.

mommyboo (1348) | 4 months ago | What a great idea! I might have to do that because I scrapbook and always have small things that need to be sealed in a childproof way=) Little fingers in my stuff is a disaster.

4. SomethingGood332 (1345) | 4 months ago | Thanks for the good ideas. Mine tend to just get the labels removed and put in the recycling bin. One thing we have done in the past, though: A Doctor's Kit for a Kid (birthday or Christmas gift) 1) A "Black Bag", usu. some type of leather purse, small case, or small suitcase from a thrift store 2) Medicine bottles in a variety of sizes, well cleaned (run through the dishwasher), with the labels removed (non-child-proof are preferred) then fun sizes of M&Ms, Skittles, and other "pill-like" candy in them (still in the packaging - Halloween leftovers are great for this) 3) I take injections every other day that come in a syringe where the needle part twists off, so the sharp part goes into the sharps container, and the syringe part gets washed and goes in the kit 4) A pair of latex gloves (actually, they are nitrile, my mom gets them from her office - she is a dental hygienist - and they have a choice of pail blue or bright purple - very fun) 5) Sometimes at dollar store, they have little plastic stethoscope and thermometer This really makes a fun gift for a kid, and no big loss when the pieces and the kid is done with it, since the total cost is less than $10 (depending on the cost of the bag, it can be less than $5).

5. mommyboo (1348) | 4 months ago | Believe it or not I have NEVER reused an empty prescription bottle, for anything. I usually throw them away. I don't tend to collect many of them, although I do have several in my medicine cabinet that have been in there for years, probably time to get rid of them and their contents!

Modestah (7401) | 4 months ago | I go through probably only once a year and discard the outdated meds... when the labels are worn off or I have no idea or recollection what THAT drug was for I figure it is time to toss.

6. carlaabt (3075) | 4 months ago | We use empty pill bottles to store thumb tacks, nails, scrapbooking stuff, etc. My two year old uses them sometimes to pick up rocks that he really likes and carries them around for a day or two before he dumps them out and finds more.

7. Angelwhispers (4563) | 4 months ago | Modestah, My husband takes the labels off and uses them out in the shed for screws and things. he really only likes the bigger fatter ones tho. The little ones I peel the labels off of and toss them.

8. mummymo (10500) | 4 months ago | I remember my gran used to use the bottles to put milk on for her flask of tea when we went on long journeys or picnics! I tend to return the bottles to the Chemists when they are empty as I know if I didn't my daughter would nab them to 'make' things with! lol xxx

9. KarenO52 (2346) | 4 months ago | Those small amber bottles are nice for storing small things like paper clips and tacks. The ones I get are big, ugly white ones with labels printed in black. I throw them away when I'm through with them.
