In my last house we had a pretty big kitchen so of course I used a mop. But now that we live in teeny tiny house I can get down on my on my hands and knees and clean it. I think it really does get it cleaner. But hey looks like I will be using the mop now because of the surgery. If I get down I wont get back up. Oh well thats okay. So what do you do mop or hands and knees?

Neither! lol I make someone else do it! I used to get down on my hands and knees once a week and clean the tiled kitchen floor . laminated living room floor and the lino in the bathroom and just give it a quick mop every day to keep it clean, now however I can't doo either so it is a case of make do with a quick mop as my other half wouldn't be bothered getting down on his hands and knees! xxxx

Hi Terry, I don't think mine was very expensive. I paid 48.95 for it at Wal-mart but I have seen them go much higher.
When you think about the cleaning supplies that you won't need to buy for your floors though, it actually pays for itself very quickly. When you're done just toss the cloth into the washer and you're ready to go again.

I use a mop my Kitchen is very big lol
But even when I move and get a smaller Kitchen I will still be moving the Mop as Hands and Knees do not work for me any more lol it would take me twice as long
You better not be doing it on Hands and knees now

My house is too big to do it on my knees.
I have Steam Mop. It runs on water only, so I don't have to use chemicals.
Works well. Once a month I use scrubbing machine to clean it really well. Steam map I am using every other day.
With 2 dogs and one cat, a lot to clean.

I've been getting down on my hands and knees and mopping the floor for ages...it's ironic I do have a good mop, but one it just doesn't seem to clean the floor as well as the good old getting down on hands and knees to clean, and two...for some reason using a mop actually aggravates my back...weird no? I used to clean the floors daily when I had more kitties, but now that I only have the two only clean the floors once a week...and my knees thank me for it...LOL. Do clean the kitchen floor everyday though..but then my kitchen is the size of a closet...hehe

I have marble and mosaic flooring all over my house and so it needs to be swept and mopped every day...the whole house! Right now, I have a househelp who does it for me and she gets down on her hands and knees. But I do have two mops that I use on the days she doesn't turn up. I usually ask the help what they prefer and they prefer to get down on their hands and knees...easier to get to every nook and corner and notices spots.

I agree with you. I think hand scrubbing a floor gets it cleaner. I do use a mop and the floors look clean but let me wipe up a little spot later and the papertowel will be dirty. This tells me using a mop is not as effective. We don't have kids at home so our floors stay cleaner longer. I do get a nice collection or dog and cat hair below the cabinets which needs to be cleaned up regularly.

I do both, mop and use a brush and tooth brush. I think having the floors clean is nice. At least for me. I hate walking on a floor that is not clean.
Needless to say I don't wear shoes in the house, lol.

I use a mop for my floors, because I have a lot of tiled areas to keep clean - it would take me forever on my hands and knees, although I do think that way makes a better job of the floors. However, I do get down on my hands and knees to get into the corners.
I use the old fashioned mop head, not the spongy/squeezy mop type, as I think it does a better job.
You shouldn't even be thinking about mopping any floors yet Terry.

ONCE I did the floor on hands and knees - about 15 years ago. I couldn't do it now.
I prefer sponge mops but the roomie and my client perfer string.
I also like the wet pads, but my floor is so dirty by the time I get to it that it takes a lot.

Hi,
Funny you should mention this because just last week I finally figured out that the mop was just not doing it. I needed to put some more muscle in the cleaning of the floors. So now I am always on my hands and knees scrubbing the floors. It certainly does take a lot longer but the results are worth it....until 5 minutes later when my kids run through the house in their muddy shoes! :)
cheers,

I do use mop. My apartment is quite large. I can't clean it with hands and knees. I did try once or twice on my dad's request. But it was just so tiresome that I don't want to do it again. Then we use mops from then on. Besides my mom like buying big mops so that we can finish the cleaning in a shorter period of time.

I can not get down on the floor like I used to with my back so I have a mop that I use often. Now if the grandsons would forget that it's theirs to play with. I have to get the oldest to use it the correct way soon.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I wonder whether mopping is suitable for you as it involves the use of the back muscle after the surgery earlier. Try to avoid heavy chore as I am afraid that this would add extra burden to your body. I prefer to clean the floor with my right foot or with my both hands. I use a mop only when mopping the area under the bed, cupboard and table.

I so agree with you that it will get cleaner but the mop does help a lot. A few times a year I will do it the right way and then use the mop for the rest of the time.
I also prefer to use homemade cleaners. For example I wash my floors with water and vinegar, sinks with baking powder, etc.

My floor gets mopped once a month cause my back just don't like it. If I was to get down on my hands/knees to clean the floor, I would never be able to get back up..literally. I will, however, clean my bathroom floor on my hands and knees when I clean my toliet being that's the only area that is tiled. Rest of the bathroom is carpet.

My daughter and I clean houses for a living and we never use a mop to wash the floors. We always get on our hands and knees to wash it, as these people are paying us good money to clean their houses, we make sure we clean it better than they ever would. Otherwise why would they pay us to do it, because they don't want to do it anymore, so we have to make sure it is really clean and that includes washing the floors on our hands and knees. At home we also wash our floors on our hands and knees because it really is the only way to get it really clean. When you use a mop all you are doing is spreading the dirty water all over the floor, and it really isn't getting clean. This is only my opinion.
