Yard Sale Goals... |
| |
| With summer arriving so are the yard sales and garage sales. Ppl haul all their unwanted items out to the yard or garage, slap a price tag on them and wait for ppl to show up and buy them…and ppl do. Outgrown clothes, toys, books, dishes, linens, appliances, just about anything you can think of. Some ppl but very high prices on their things b/c they want to make as much as they can and others just put a few cents just to get rid of the stuff. Rich neighborhoods tend to have high dollar items for very little money although there are exceptions to that rule. Personally when I have a yard sale, I just want to get rid of the stuff. I don’t want to have to haul it back inside again. The money mostly just goes to fill a piggy bank so what I make off it isn’t that big of an issue. I love going to yard sales and garage sales b/c you never know what great deals your going to find. It reminds me of a woman that went on Antique Roadshow with a small table she’d bought at a yard sale for $20 and then found out that the table was worth over $100,000 Now that is a deal!! Do you like yard sales or garage sales? When you have one, is it to get rid of the stuff or to make big bucks? What’s the best deal you’ve ever found? **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~ | | Yard Sales... | | | | |

| | I had a street sale a few weeks ago, and all I wanted to do was get rid of stuff I didn't want anymore. Even though that was the goal, there was stuff I didn't let go for nothing. You know, the stuff that is brand new in the box, people offer you a nickel, I don't think so. So, I brought that stuff in, and will try to sell on Ebay or Kijiji. I try not to go to them, I really don't want any more stuff in the house. The other stuff that didn't sell went right to Goodwill, hopefully someone can use it. | | | | | | |

| | I have lots of sales, and I used to do it to get rid of stuff from my own house. The last few years, though, I have been buying abandoned self-storage units and selling the contents at yard sales, so I do it to make money now. I still set my prices very reasonably, because I'd rather get a quarter for something and sell it, rather than put a dollar on it and have to pack it back up again when it doesn't sell! Those quarters add up eventually! I really hate going to sales where the people put high prices on everything. Yeah, it might be nice stuff, but it's still used! I also like going to sales and picking stuff up for a few cents that I can sell later on ebay for big bucks! You can often pick up depression glass and other collectible glassware and pottery for almost nothing. I paid $1 for a piece of Roseville pottery once and sold it on ebay for $32. | | | | | | |

| | Most of the storage unit places will hold an auction day where you go and bid on abandoned storage units(or people who are 4-5 months behind on their bill). Other's won't put the units up for auction, you just go in and it's a silent bidding, meaning a sheet in the main office where you put your highest bid that you are willing to pay, and you may or may not get it, depending on if someone outbids you. For either method, just call or go by the storage unit places in your area and ask what method they use for getting rid of abandoned storage units. Most will either have a list of contents or will let you peek inside the unit(but not go digging around). Some are also blind sales. Be careful of these, especially if the owner is a business as some use storage units as a records storage facility and you will end up with a bunch of useless papers(not to mention HIPPA law violations). Good luck if you choose to use this method, it's actually a fairly good way to make a profit. I tend to list my larger stuff on craigslist so I don't have to deal with moving it. I also start by listing the smaller stuff on craigslist and if it doesn't sell, I put it in my Ebay store and let it sit there until someone buys it or I get sick of having it around and take it to goodwill. | | | |

| | I am a garage/yard sale junkie. I yell "garage sale" everytime I see a sign. Bruce might not stop (usualkly does) but I still yell it. I am alwayys finding little things at garage sales. I love going though the clothing in my sizes or my grandson's. I refuse to ever have another garage sale. I know no one in this town yet. We had one 6 months after we moved in to rid us us of un-needed stuff. We had some great deals, because we just want to be rid of it. Out of a whole weekend of "community garage sakes, us being on a list....no one showed. Maybe it was because we were brand new, manybe it was because we are in the trailer court. It will be a long time before I attempt having another one again. | | | | | | |

| | I love yard sales. I like looking for bargains. My grandchildren like to go as well. So this is something we can do together. I have had a few yard sales and will have another sometime soon. I just want to get rid of stuff. My daughter and I have way too much. My brother-in-law wants to add to the one coming up. With 7 children, (my daughters) all the clothes, toys, her stuff and my stuff we have a lot. We usually give the stuff to the Veterans Store in town. That's why we don't sell stuff much. But right now with prices of clothes, food , and gas being what it is we are going to sell aome of the stuff. We still have tons after giving away tons. | | | | | | |

| | I love to go to garage and yard sales and wish hubby would take me to more. I had one last year and it went very well. I just put a low price on everything and almost everything sold. The only thing I was not sure I wanted to sell was a doll house that I had put a lot of time and money in so I put a high price on it and it did not sell but I had a lot of compliments and people taking pictures of it with their cell phones. I am glad now that I kept it because I still enjoy it. | | | | | | |

| | I don't do yard sales much. If I happen to see something while I am going by I may stop and look but that is about it. Gas is just to high to be riding around looking for them and they are spread out so much anything you save just wouldn't be worth it.We just save up our old stuff we want to get rid of and donate it to our local no kill animal sanctuary thrift store. They can use it or sell it and use the money for whatever they need for the animals. We get to write off the donations as a tax write off. | | | | | | |

| | We used to go yard saling every Saturday morning but not so much lately. I really should try to remedy that! Maybe I'll just plan to stop at a few of them this weekend. I really do enjoy going to them, yes. I haven't had one of my own for years but when I did, it was a combination of wanting to make a little extra money and wanting to get rid of things. We averaged around $200 each time (held them for three days usually) so it was worth the work in getting it all together. I don't really know what the best thing was that I ever found, but I was always totally thrilled when I found great books for a dime or a quarter. | | | | | | |

| | I never went to yard sales much... or auctions either. I always considered those items for sale to be other peoples junk and so didn't like them much as I prefer to buy new. When we have garage sales it is to get rid of our junk... speaking of which, there are some closets that need sorting... | | | | | | |

| | I go to yard sales and estate sales all the time. Most of the best stuff seems to turn up at auctions where the prices are higher but I have gotten some nice stuff at garage and house sales. I once bought a piece of Glidden (Rams head mark) pottery for 50 cents and sold it for $450. I've also gotten some nice first printings of books that have sold in the $100-500 range and a gorgeous beaded bag with swans and a castle that cost me $20 and sold for $700. But these dels have been spread over ten years and there hasn't been anything great lately. The deals are fairly few and far between but you never know, and looking is half of the fun. | | | | | | |
