I think the Romaine Lettuce is good. that is the best lettuce you can buy or eat? also Bok Choy is good too. I had a Salad for Lunch,I use some Romaine lettuce, I never really notice how good it was till now. There are about 5 or 6 different lettuce, did you know that? which one do you prefer.

I prefer Romaine lettuce. I stopped using Iceberg lettuce completely. One, I don't think that Iceberg lettuce has any nutritional value whatsoever and two, it doesn't have much flavor on its own. Romaine lettuce has a distinct sort of spicy flavor and it has vitamins and nutrients in it that are healthy for you to eat. I LOVE Romaine lettuce and will continue to buy it for salads because it is just that good.

That is great, I will use it from now on, and it is more healthier too, thanks for telling me this. The Salad was excellent. I put brocoli in it, Bananas Peppers, Chesse Raisins, Sour Cream, cherry tomamtoes Ranch dressing.

Bok Choy is not a lettuce variety. It is Chinese cabbage (Brassica rapa subspecies. A Chinese leaf vegetable commonly used in Chinese cuisine. The vegetable is related to the Western cabbage and of the same species as the common turnip.

Hi Ray, you could be right about that. I know I use to work for some people that were Itallian and they grow it righ in there yard, and ever since I taste it I started liking it. It is quite good. I always thought it was Lettuce. You learn something new everyday, especially here at Mylot. I don't see you much, I hope all is well! Have a good day!

i personally prefer baby spinach with my salad. when i go to the little places by me to get a salad for lunch, the romaine is never dark enough for me. for some reason it looks like iceberg and i don't eat that mess. so to know that i am getting the good stuff from the green leafs i always go with spinach

If I'm just having a plain salad, I usually use Bibb lettuce. At this time of year I grow it in the garden so I can enjoy it all summer in salads and to use on burgers and stuff. Otherwise I prefer to have a mixed salad, one that has different types of lettuce in it along with some spinach leaves. I know there's different types of lettuce, and they all have their own special flavor. Some of them are more peppery tasting to me (bitter?) so with those I don't use as much. I love this time of the year when fresh greens are in! Yum!!

I don't really use "lettuce" at all, but I think what I use is in the lettuce family. I make my salads almost entirely out of spinach. I like to use the organic baby spinach that Sam's Club uses. But, I also buy spinach from our local grocery store. Of course, I put other things in my salad like onions, mushrooms, or peppers, too. I eat this salad almost everyday.

Hi Marcie!
I prefer Romaine lettuce. I like all of the lettuces, but Romaine lettuce seems to hold on to a dressing better that the others.
Sometimes I get a bunch of varieties and mix them all together and dress with a vinegarette.

You are correct about that, it does seem to hold the dressing better. Thanks for you input!

If it is green and crunchy, I'll eat it!:) I am partial to butter crunch and romaine, mmmmm yum-yum! I perfer lettuce that is home grown but haven't been able to grow any due to the extremely high temperatures. The next best thing is organics; pricey but good.
This discussion is making me crave a nice cool, crispy salad with a light vinegarette dressing, mmmmmmm!

I like to use just regular heads of lettuce for my salad. My husband and I planted a small garden this year though. We planted some leaf lettuce so we may try to make some salads with that when it is ready to pick. We also planted some tomato plants also that we can use for our salad. My husband and I like to eat whilted lettuce by putting bacon and a little bit of bacon grease and vinegar on it.

I really just have Iceburg lettuce. I don't really eat that many salads though, so I haven't tried salads with other types of lettuce. I didn't realize there were so many types of lettuce, but I guess I need to branch out and try some others! Iceburg lettuce doesn't really seem to have any taste to it, so maybe I would like salads more if I tried some other kinds!

I like romaine, too. I grow my own Buttercrunch, which is my absolute favorite, though. It's a bibb type and has a lovely, mild, sweet tasty and is really fleshy. I also like dandelion greens and red leaf lettuces like Red Sails.
I love bok choy chopped roughly and sauteed in sesame seed oil. I've never added it to a salad, but it is one of my favorite 'greens'.
