What is Better  

I have just learned something just from reading your discussion. I never heard of baking soda for cleaning comb and brush but it does make sense. I have always just used hot soapy water or hot water with a little shampoo.
Can't wait to read what other's have to say.

Hi Carol, have you heard about 'soap nut', this is available here in my country. As the name suggests it is herbal soap. Take one remove the outer skin, throw away the seed. Put the skin in warm water, you get some thing like soap solution. You can go for a google search for details, but I am posting a photo below for you. I use a few drops of shampoo or dish soap myself.

I have just soaked them in hot water and soap...then make sure I rinsed them very well. And while you bring the subject up I seriously need to do mine!

I usually do use baking soda when washing my brush and comb and if I dont have it in the house I just use Mr. Clean or sometimes clothes detergent.

my Mom always uses ammonia and hot water in her bathroom sink to clean out her hair brushes. she also has a hair brush scrubber that she uses to help the aid of the hair spray to come off of the hair brushes easier. let the hair brushes sit in the hot ammonia water for about twenty minutes or so, then rub and rinse off your hair brushes and lay them upside down on a towel to dry and you'll have clean hair brushes. i think that is how that my hair dresser also cleans her hair brushes with the ammonia and hot water to sterilize them as well. i don't know for sure, but i think that that is where my Mom got that idea from was from our hair dresser. i still take my hair brushes over to my Mom's house to have her clean my hair brushes. isn't that awful? lol and i have no idea where that my Mom got that hair brush scrubber at, she has had that dang little scrubber for years now. lol they probably do not even make those any longer. lmao

I don't know that it's better, but I've used shampoo and water to soak my brushes and combs in. I've really been stuck (no shampoo and no money), I have used a little dishwashing detergent and a lot of water, too.

My wife uses laundy soap and hot water generally, once she used a scented soap, the effect was less, but the comb and brush smelled so nice friend.

I have read that combs can be cleaned with shampoos.FOR tooth brushes I guess salt and hot water should also be adequate.
