What is better than baking soda and water to soak and clean a brush, comb or both? I don't always have baking soda in the house and am looking for an alternative. Thanks in advance.

I use a few drops of shampoo or dish soap myself.

Does shampoo leave a film on the brush or comb? Baking soda works very good but thought maybe there was another product someone could suggest that does a better job. Thanks for responding.

Far as I know it doesn't leave a film. I just squirt a few drops in the sink and add hot water. Then let them soak a few hours before rinsing them off really well. The grime just lifts right off and floats on the surface.

I have read that combs can be cleaned with shampoos.FOR tooth brushes I guess salt and hot water should also be adequate.

I would clean my toothbrush with baking soda and hot water also but I don't bother. Just replace it with a new one. Haven't tried shampoo to clean my brush or comb. Thanks for responding.

I usually do use baking soda when washing my brush and comb and if I dont have it in the house I just use Mr. Clean or sometimes clothes detergent.

I have just learned something just from reading your discussion. I never heard of baking soda for cleaning comb and brush but it does make sense. I have always just used hot soapy water or hot water with a little shampoo. Can't wait to read what other's have to say.

I pour baking soda in a cup of hot water. Soak my comb and brush sometimes over night. So clean when I get up in the morning but was wondering if there was another product which would do even better. Thanks for responding.

I have just soaked them in hot water and soap...then make sure I rinsed them very well. And while you bring the subject up I seriously need to do mine!

I need to clean mine also which is why I thought about making this a discussion. I use gel and some spray so they both get dirty pretty fast. Thanks for responding.

I don't know that it's better, but I've used shampoo and water to soak my brushes and combs in. I've really been stuck (no shampoo and no money), I have used a little dishwashing detergent and a lot of water, too.

I have been out of shampoo in the past and used liquid soap to wash my hair. Left a film on my hair but it felt clean. I did clean my brush and comb the other night. Really needed some help. Thanks for responding.
