since so many politicians are always caught in affairs so it seems it makes me wonder something.. are politicians more likely to have affairs or is it they get caught more? in a way i want to think that maybe the politicians are more um.. likely to cheat since some lack in character majorally but then i ponder that they are viewed all the time by the media and public that its harder for them to keep something under wraps.. then of course it could be the power going to their head so they think they can do whatever with whomever..
what do you think??

I think there will always be people who will have affairs with those who are in the public eye or have power - mainly for their own personal gain. (No offence but there are a lot of politicians who get 'caught' and you think 'why would anyone want to??) Add to that, the fact that they spend a lot of time away from their families and the media will make far more money from reporting a politician's indiscretion than they would from that of an unknown person.

yeah i guess with politicians being away from home that a weaker person would come closer to cheating out of loneliness

It could be the feeling that they can do anything and have anyone. But I think that politicans are more likely to get caught because people are always watching them, so they are bound to get caught. I think that normal people probably have affairs just as often, but they watch themselves and know that they *can* get caught, therefore they are more likely to be careful, and also obviously regular people aren't put under the microscope. Also, since politicians are seen as dishonest to start with, people aren't surprised when it happens, and most the time in real life woman and men tend to want to believe the best in their partner, so they don't question it. If that makes sense. LOL

Since I've heard Washington D.C. referred to as "Hollywood for ugly people" (which I think is a bit harsh, all politicians aren't "ugly", it's just that they're not beautiful and glamorous in the tradition of movie stars) I guess it would follow that politicians probably have an easier time finding someone to cheat with than say your local plumber because they've got fame and power going for them. At the same time I think they're more likely to get caught when they do cheat because they're under constant scrutiny and no matter which party they belong to there are those whose main goal in life is to bring them down.
That having been said, I doubt that politicians are any more or less likely to cheat than the rest of the population, in fact it would be my guess that the number of cheaters in Washington probably varies from one election to the next as some cheaters leave and some faithful members arrive. However, I do think that if someone is by nature the cheating kind being a politician may make it more likely for him or her to act on it.

Hi There,
This is a tricky one to answer. It may seem like politicians have affairs more because they are in the limelight so much. Also, think of athletes and movie stars...they are in the news very often for the same thing. I think there can be something to be said for the fact that they undoubtedly have more opportunities than the average person. However, I think it also has a lot to do with the fact that everything they do is scrutinized so much.
My two cents...
cheers,

moonlit- I feel the same exact way! I think about all the trash people would try to get on me or make up about me if I was famous. I mean, I don't do anything illegal, but I have many issues that the media would just LOVE to use to make money off of in their little tabloids. That being said, I think I would try to be as open as possible about my issues, that way at least my fans would hear the truth from me, and they would be more inclined to believe my side instead of the latest issue of Star or National Enquirer.. LOL That's why I always give celebrities the benefit of the doubt, because I dislike the media who make money off of people who make a name for themselves. Personally, I don't care what my favorite singers and actors do on their own time, I just care that they continue to entertain me. LOL

When your neighbor cheats...it is not in the public eye. Many married people cheat. When you are a politician and running for office, the public, the media and everyone is watching your every move. They dig for dirt on you. I think it is a bit overdone. I don't really think it is power going to their heads. I think we all do things or at least have done things in the past...none of us are saints and most of us aren't bad or immorral. That entire scandal with Clinton was a huge waste of taxpayers money and ridicuolously overblown. It distracted him from doing his job and it was obviously set up. I didn't even watch most of the court proceedings because it was so ridiculous.

I was always lead to believe that people in positions of power often needed greater stimuli because of being at that level things didn't satisfy in the same way they had before?

I dont' think that politicians are any more likely or less likely to have an affair. I think that maybe they do have more opportunities some times because of the many people they encounter on a daily basis. I also think that most of the time we hear so much about it because it sells papers and magazines, otherwise no one would really care.

I think most people are having affairs and if you're a politician and you get caught its a feather in somebody's cap, isn't it ?
People just look for things like this to wade into people with power, especially in a democracy.
Its not that politicos are drawn to affairs. They're like everybody else and they just do the same.
When they get caught, of course, the media just goes to town with it.

good day.. it's just money and power combined with their sense of lust that make them susceptible to immorality. Money plus power talks and he guilty walks.

I think part of it is the powerand lack of morality, another part(it seems to me anyway) is that they spend so much time away from home and never see their families. Then again, a lot of them just got married just for appearance sake anyways.
I believe the main reason they get caught is that they always seem to have pretty powerful opposition that has ways of finding out about such things, that and the press are always at their doors looking for a story.
Cheers, Tianna

i think they feel like they need to be perfect and superheros so maybe they indulge on things that aren't always appropriate due to just wanting to rebel
