Would you rather knit, crochet or cross-stitch?  email this discussion to a friend?

I've always been a frustrated artist hehehe. I love doing arts - drawing, sketching, painting, scrapbooking... though I'm not really good at 'em:(

These days, I want my hands to get busy on something new. I've been trying to choose among knitting, crocheting and cross-stitching. I confess I don't know all the how-to's of all three but I wanna learn something new and I can't wait to begin on a project and see the finish product!

Well, knitting uses the yarn and I may have a pair of socks, a sweater or a bag; crocheting on the other hand still uses the yarn but it uses a crochet hook and complicated loops, I may have a cool doily or a beautiful lace as a project. Cross-stitching, well, there are several patterns to choose from ranging from nature, cartoons to people, especially babies... uh uh, I may want the cross-stitch. But I want the sweater and the lace too...

Shucks! It's so difficult to decide...

Maybe you can help me.. Which of the three is more convenient, much easier to learn, lesser expensive and more practical? Would you rather knit? Crochet? Or cross-stitch?

I would have to say knitting but the only way I know how to knit is on one of the nifty knitters looms. I find it really fun.

Hmmm... I don't even know what a nifty knitter loom is ... wahhh :(( ... Gosh! So many things to learn!

ya the loom makes it really easy to learn to knit. They have round looms and straight looms.

I am not good at knit, crochet or cross-stitch. But my mom can make very professional and beautiful cross-stitch things and that's so amazing. I wish I could have this patience.

I wanna have those professional-looking cross-stitches too! I wanna frame them and admire them everyday! I think i would need the patience as well...

Well... of those three, I guess the crochet is the easier. Cross-stitch can become tedious and boring, and depending upon it's scale, very time consuming. Knitting is just downright challenging for me!

I like CREWEL work, however. There's a lot of variety of stitches, and it can be big, bold and splashy or tiny, detailed, and luxurious.

Crewel? Now that's something new to my ears... Yeah, I seem to favor cross-stitch now, it seems easier...

I love to crochet and I'm ok at doing cross-stitch but when it comes to knitting I end up with bend needles LOL. I have a crocheted blanket that I'm going to be working on in a little bit for my bed. It is a king sized bed and the blanket is huge. To be honest I'm a bit burnt out on it (no I'm crispy burnt out) but it is so close to done I really just need to finish it and move on to something else.

For me the cross stitch was the easiest to learn and the crochet wasn't very hard either, knitting on the other hand is going to take some doing but it is on my to do list before the year is out.

Wow! You're crafty! I do wish you'll finish something though before you're burnt out... It's just a waste not to see the final product.

I'll get there I promise. I have my yarn all set out in it's little space and once the yarn is used up the blanket will be done. It probably would have been easier on me if I made wider strips. I backed myself into a corner now so I have no choice but to follow through on it, ripping it out is not an option.

Hi there!

Well for me I would rather cross stitch. Its my passion. I have finished so many designs already. I have earned also from this hobby. People pay me to cross stitch for them. They choose the design and I stitch it for them. I can also make a photo stitch. I usually make wedding and baby pictures. It is also a nice gift for your friends.

Yes cross stitch do take some time to finish. But the time frame to finish actually depends on the pattern you choose. There are small and simple patterns available in the market. Sometimes a small pattern takes only 1 day to finish.

I would suggest you choose a project that your most comfortable with. And mostly what your heart really desires.

Ciao!

That's really nice. Making a living out of something you really enjoy doing. I wanna learn to cross-stitch as well, methinks it's the easiest of the three... Good luck on your passion-business... :)

I also like using the loom, as opposed to "free-handed" stitching. The loom makes it easier for me to knit scarves quickly (well, slightly quicker) and I can actually watch TV and knit.
My main medium in crafting is making handmade jewelry and I also enjoy working with polymer clay.
I do enjoy buying yarn, but actually sitting down to knit sometimes is a problem for me lol

I am needle work illiterate. I have tried to knit but somehow my thumbs got in the way. As far as Crochet or cross stitch. I know i would be all thumbs. Besides that I dont have patience to sit in one spot and do something over and over again. I would go crazy. lol

well i know a little about cross-stitching. i've done up a piece or two of the smaller ones. i simply don't have the patience to attempt anything bigger. i don't know how to crochet though i wish to learn that one day. then i'll go on a crocheting spree and crochet anything anyone can imagine. i would love to crochet a blanket. i love knitting the most. i learnt knitting to train my patience. i used to be a very impatient person. knitting has helped a little. but the most wonderful thing i've gotten out of knitting is the pleasure on the recipients face when i gave them something i made. ;p

Knitting and crochet are fairly easy to learn. The loops are not complicated in crochet, they just look that way and you have to learn before you go on to complicated patterns.
