The price of Petrol versus Printer Ink
All these examples do NOT imply that petrol is cheap; it just illustrates how outrageous some prices are....
You will be really shocked by the last one!
(At least, I was...)
Compared with Petrol......
Think a gallon of petrol is expensive?
This makes one think, and also puts things in perspective.
Diet Snapple 16 oz £1.29 .. £10.32 per gallon
Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz £1.19 ...........£9.52 per gallon
Ocean Spray 16 oz £1.25 ......... £10.00 per gallon
Brake Fluid 12 oz £3.15 ...... £33.60 per gallon
Vick's Nyquil 6 oz E8.35 ... £178.13 per gallon
Pepto Bismol 4 oz £3.85 . £123.20 per gallon
Tippex 7 oz £1.39 ....... . £5.42 per gallon
And this is the REAL KICKER...
Evian water 9 oz £1.49..£21.19 per gallon! £21.19 for WATER and the buyers don't even know the source
(Evian spelled backwards is Naive.)
You don't even want to compare it with perfume or after shave.
Ever wonder why printers are so cheap?
So they have you hooked for the ink.
Someone calculated the cost of the ink at................
(you won't believe it....but it is true........)
£5,200 a gal.. (five thousand two hundred pounds)
So, the next time you're at the pump,be glad your car doesn't run on water, or Tippex, Pepto Bismol, Nyquil or God forbid, Printer Ink!
Just a little humour to help ease the pain of your next trip to the petrol pump...
So to make this into a discussion, do you now feel better about the prices of petrol? Or are you now annoyed at the prices of these other items?

Yikes Ellie! We're off to Sussex for a birthday party this weekend. I'll fill with Southern Water please as that's £510 pa for a much as we need. We've never even had a water shortage/rationing here! I was going to use Chanel No 5, but I'll skip that. LOL.

Thanks Elle. The Boss's best friend's 50th. She's an air hostess (or in flight customer assistance executive!) and her friends are all very glamorous. I shall just have to be propped up in the corner and my tongue popped back in and my lower jaw pushed up from time to time!!

Hi Guybrush, It is also cheaper to buy a new razor than to buy replacement blades, a throwaway world and yet they want us to conserve things, how when like you say it is cheaper to buy awhole new printer than a new cartridge, where do all the old printers and razors go? Ellie :D

Yep - there must be landfill pits full of printers and razors ... and a salesman at a white goods store told me a while ago that fridges, etc., were made to last about 7 years now - and if you got 10 out of them you'd be doing well! Gone are the days they lasted for 30-odd years. What a wasteful, throwaway world we've become!

the most annoying of all these is paying a dollar for a bottled water, thank god we don't have to buy air. this is simply outrageous. they don't have any shame for charging hapless consumers like us.

Nice see you Ellie. Hope you are doing great!
I once had a laser colored printer. But I had to sell it off for I couldn't bear with the expense of the ink cartridges!! It's a fun list but so true. We make fuss about things which are only apparent but what a list you shared!!!

Hi mimipi, I'm back. Thank you. I couldn't stand to be away from my friends any longer. This is where is it sometimes better to buy a more expensive printer that has cheper ink cartridges available rather than the other way round so I know exactly why you sold your one the prices are crazy. Hope you are good too. Huggles. Ellie :D

Hi MsTickle what a great way of looking at it and yes considering what we do with it, it is very reasonable really. In fact as you know I like to look at things in a positvie way and when I went to pay for fuel the other day I said to the lady at the counter that at least this year the amount I was spending with give me more vouchers to spend at Christmas with my clubcard points. I am so annoyed that everything but the wages have gone up. I think about those who struggled before the cost went through the roof and I wonder how they are making it now? We are barely getting by and I mean barely, we had to sell our best vehicle and are probably going to lose the other one to the bank. Mostly so we can buy food. And forget a dr visit my husband and I have no insurance so forget preventive medicine.
Side note I am looking for any and every way to get out of poverty so I never deal with this again!

The price increases are having an effect on everyone I agree and I am so sorry to hear of the struggle you are going through right now. I have been shopping at the times where they reduce items and buying cheaper brands of everything and cooking up larger meals and freezing, this has mad quite a difference to my food bill. I hope you manage to rise above it all. I am sending you a big hug of luck and hope some comes your way and you can see a way out.................................there you go. Hoped that helped a little. Ellie :D

The price of the petrol cannot be compared with other liquid stuffs. The increasing of petrol will affect all our life. Everything that needed transportation will increase the price.
But considering other liquids like ink, not everyone will use it. It has big diffence.
The petrol increasing causing the increasing of all products, that is the main cause. At the same time, our salary has no increment, our life become worst and worst.

I know that the fuel prices are affecting everything and that we are all having to cut back because of the knock on effect of price increases but this was to just make people see how much other things do cost too and to try to make someone smile rather than get upset about it all. Sorry you are right it cannot be compared. Ellie :D

That was a real eye opener research that has been done. But we use a gallon of printer ink for at least two years. But a gallon of fuel is not enough for a day. In Sri Lanka a gallon of petrol is about Rs.700 (USD 7) whereas a tiny ink cartridge is about Rs.3000 (USD 30). I can't afford it so I get them refilled for about Rs.200 (USD 2). The manufacturer has warned against it. But who cares we can afford to throw the printer and buy a new one with the money saved by refilling the ink cartridges.
By the way thanks for wonderful bit of information, and the trouble you have taken to share it with us.

Excellent perspective here as a gallon of petrol does in fact get used far more quickly I agree. With everyone worrying of the price rises though I just think I would give some food for thought over other prices. I personally drink tap water but the price per gallon of bottled was a shocker and printers are cheaper to buy than cartridges a lot of the time a bit like razor blades more expenseive than buying a new razor a lot of the time eh! I am please you enjoyed reading this information. Ellie :D

LOL thanks for the giggle Ellie! i already knew they deliberately made printers cheap as they knew they would get more for the ink! As for the other well they are all expensive per gallon but it is all comparitive and I am still very vexed at the way the price of petrol is going! Huggles! xxx
