airfare/hotel/car - what has been your experience with a package?

airfare/hotel vacation packages - Good idea or not?

Is this a good idea to combine these into a package for a trip? If you've done something like this were you satisfied? I have a trip coming up in early Sept and I've started checking rates. I also need to know how likely it is that I can negotiate a cheaper ticket for my four year old daughter. I see no reason why she should have to be charged full price for a ticket when she could technically still sit on my lap during a flight.

I know this may be hard to believe but twice now I have gotten the best deal by going through a travel agent. I always use the same one. They can put together packages for you and save. I got a great deal on Air Fare and a car. I always check the price on the Internet and then go in and talk to them and tell them what I found. They can match or beat it most of the time. They can get the information and you get a real person to talk to if there is a problem.

I used a travel agent only once, and it was for amtrak tickets/hotel. Since it was about 14 years ago, I don't even remember what I spent or how good of a deal it really was. My husband is pretty good at tracking and finding a good deal, but I will mention using a travel agent to him and see if maybe we can at least check one out to see if they can get us a better deal.

I think not doing a package is better. I went to Vegas las year, and checked each one separtately and then conpared what a package would be. By doing this I was able to book a cheaper vacation, by booking separately. It was about $150.00 difference. Have a good time at the wedding.

Thank you! This'll be only the third 'vacation' I have taken in my adult life lol. My first one was my honeymoon (taken before I got married actually), the second one was when I flew to visit family with my daughter when she was 6 months old. This one will be both me and my husband plus our daughter, I'm looking forward to it.

packages are great. when you do a all in one it always come out a bit cheaper. i never took my baby on a plane, but i would think that you can get a cheaper ticket for her, i do recommend you go for the package

Some holidays I take packages, some I book it all myself. I always research the prices because with some holidays it is better and cheaper to book a package but for others it is better to make your own arrangements. I am in the UK and some airlines do children's fares so the best thing would be to check with the airlines you're looking at. Or ask a travel agent to look into it for you.

Package holiday are pretty good, that is what we are going to go on next year. I am in UK and here if we book really early we can get early bird discounts and free child places, so out of my three children I will probably either only have to pay for two or one and a half. With a package trip at least it is all sorted out in one place and paid for before you go, so you will not have any messing about.

I always do the combos...it save us money every time. We just booked a trip to Myrtle Beach and I booked our flight and hotel together and saved about $300 on the overall trip. Can't beat that!
