This is a shot of one of my Banana Pepper plants. After a long wait they are finally growing and amost ready to eat. Have you ever heard of banana peppers? They can be sweet or tart depending on when they are picked. They will turn a yellow if left to grow more and then they are sweeter. They slice easier when they are riper as well. But these are great in salads for color as well as taste. Do you eat banana Peppers at all? Have you ever had them on a pizza? I haven't and wondered how they do on a pizza. Thanks in advance all.

I am not sure if they are good on pizza, BUT I can honestly tell you that they are one of my top five favorite vegetables. I actually prefer them when they are qa little on the tarty side. Especially in salads or in subs....They are so wonderful...

For frying them it is better to pick them when they are a bright yellow.
Salads etc green and tart is best. Thanks.

I love banana peppers but have never tried any on pizza. I like to eat them sometimes with a sandwich. I have eaten them raw and also out of a jar in liquid but hard to describe the taste, not sweet and not hot but delicious.

myLot reputation of 98/100. webeishere (9348)   ranked 5 out of 2,031 in gardening  4 weeks ago

Next year i think I'll plant more and pickle some as well.
Depends on how my pickling of the cukes go this year.

What else do you use for the sandwich then?

What else do I use for a sandwich? Well it all depends on what type of sandwich I am eating at the time. I like the banana peppers with a sub sandwich.

I love banana peppers. I have never had them on pizza but they are great in stir fry vegetables and raw. It doesn't really matter at which point they are picked i can still eat them!

myLot reputation of 98/100. webeishere (9348)   ranked 5 out of 2,031 in gardening  4 weeks ago

I have yet to have them with a stir fry recipe.
Now I am going to do that this time around. Thanks.

I have never had them but it sounds like a wonderful thing to grow next year! I love sweet peppers and usually buy the yellow bell peppers.

myLot reputation of 98/100. webeishere (9348)   ranked 5 out of 2,031 in gardening  4 weeks ago

I think I may grow red, yellow and green bells next year.
That's if I dig up more area for a garden.

Those look great! I don't eat peppers but Tom loves them and said he can't wait to eat the banana peppers right off the plant.

He'll still have to wait a little while as mine are just starting to bear fruit. Cute little things, though.

How come you don't like peppers?

Just don't. I do cook with them, but I don't eat the peppers themselves. Same with onion.

I think you can also get hot ones. They do turn red eventually. I have not had much luck with gardens at this house. I have some peppers in containers, but I did plant them late. They like even warmer conditions than tomatoes do, so I always plant them later than my tomatoes.

myLot reputation of 98/100. webeishere (9348)   ranked 5 out of 2,031 in gardening  4 weeks ago

I am the only one in my family that really likes hot foods. So I won't plant the hot ones as they would more than likely go to waste. Good luck with your peppers.

I have never heard of banana peppers before, I think though that if I had them then I would like them sweet as I like a sweetish pepper.

Those look wonderful...and so big! I tried growing them this year for the first time and mine are just little bitty things. Cute and yellow (although one turned red) so I picked them, but no where near as big as those. Maybe next year.

myLot reputation of 98/100. webeishere (9348)   ranked 5 out of 2,031 in gardening  4 weeks ago

These actually are half the size of the ones I had last year though.
