Another way to waste our tax dollars.... New PBS program says Bible isn't true, stories made up Your tax dollars helped fund "The Bible's Buried Secrets" July 22, 2008 The Public Broadcasting System (PBS), probably the most liberal network in America, will present a program this fall that says the Old Testament is a bunch of made-up stories that never happened. "The Bible's Buried Secrets" says the Bible is not true. It is scheduled to air on November 18. Producer Paula Apsell said: "...It's (The Bible's Buried Secrets) designed for intelligent people who are willing to change their mind. …it will give intelligent people who want to read the Bible in a modern way a chance. If we insist on reading the Bible literally, in 25 years, nobody will read it any longer." Among highlights of "The Bible's Buried Secrets": • The Old Testament was written in the sixth century BC and hundreds of authors contributed. • Abraham, Sarah and their offspring didn't exist. • There is no archaeological evidence of the Exodus. • Monotheism was a process that took hundreds of years. • The Israelites were actually Canaanites. • The Israelites believed that God had a wife. I have often said that PBS should not receive tax dollars. "The Bible's Buried Secrets" is simply one more reason Congress should stop supporting PBS with our tax dollars. Congress gives PBS hundreds of millions of tax dollars to help support the network. Sincerely, Donald E. Wildmon

Actually I really have no idea about PBS or anything but again those things about the Bible and the conspiracies behind it made me wonder again why do people keep on saying these things? I mean the Bible is a very good book and of course a good book always has its critics but why should critics have to go that far? I mean a lot of people find their inspiration and answer in the Bible and I think by what these people do they really destroy the hope of the people depending on it. Well if what they say is true my view on the Bible still wouldn't change

That is just it. It is not true and our tax dollars are being used to promote it.

I agree that PBS should receive no funding. This is not unbiased reporting or educational, so why are our tax dollars going to it? I think I'm going to write my congressman about it.

Don't you believe in separation of church and state?

I don't think PBS broadcasting this is an issue of church and state, I think closing down PBS due to it would be. PBS' mission is to provide unbiased documentaries, and the bible wouldn't be off limits to that.

No PBS should not receive a dime of taxpayer funding. Back in 94 when the Republicans took over Congress Newt was wanting to cut off all federal funds for PBS. Being that Newt had the backbone of a wet noodle the Republicans not only kept funding PBS, but increased funding. If PBS had, which they will never, done a story positive about the Bible you would have people screaming separation of church and state. Is it not so great how some only know one phrase. This is not new though the History Channel cannot help themselves. The History Channel would never have the guts to treat any other religion the same way it treats Christianity. At lest though the History Channel is a pritave network, unlike PBS.

We should have the right to decide where our taxes go. One nation under God has changed so much that before you know it people will say that Christianity never existed.

Some of you just like to hear yourself talk. They do documentarys on Jesus, Thomas Aquinas, Judas, Paul, Peter, I took out PBS dvds from my local library all about them and even some for Muhammed because my boyfriend was curious about the religion (no, he's not converting). He is from a Muslim background and see's no problem doing that but some on you here seem so intolerant its despicable--how do make sound judgements in your life, or do you just keep on making impulsive decisions according to your own strict rules of judgement. Jesus was never like that in his teachings and what you preach is more of a Pharisee.

Well it looks like I won't be supporting PBS by watching any of their programs either. Things like this, is why I think the world is the way it is. Alot of people will believe it, and get swayed to thinking that God isn't real, we have enough people like that already in this world..

Walijo, you have that right. And if you listen some of them on Mylot.com, you will see how frightening it is because they are just a small sample of the world.

Yeah, I see some of that on here, and it does scare me. Where I'm from everybody believes in God, and everybody goes to church somewhere. But as I've been watching and reading there are alot of people who don't and it just amazes me, and scares me. I didn't know that there could be that many people who don't believe.

It sounds like an interesting programme. I must watch out for it if it's shown in Britain. I understand that this PBS network is mostly funded voluntarily, with only a minimal subsidy from the government. This sounds a lot better than the BBC, which gets most of its funding from its own special tax and pushes religious programmes every Sunday with no equal time given to athiestic philosophies.

Don't forget to send PBS a check. They will love you for it!

What are you hating on people who WANT to pay for it now, your silly. And yes, your right, it is primarily viewer funded and the rest is through private funders

I agree with anybody here's decision to petition against government funding of PBS, it is your right as a taxpayer to decide where you want the money spent. However, I agree with PBS decision to run the program. They are dedicated to providing high quality documentary programs, and making this information accessible to everyone. Just like any artifact, the Bible may come under scrutiny, and given its historical relevance, SHOULD be explored. Ultimately though, if you believe your tax dollars shouldn't be supporting this, that is your perogative. I would hope then that PBS is able to find private sponsors to make up the difference, because I would like to continue to see such programming! :-)

I think it is unfair, though...that they are presenting such falsehoods as truth...saying God has a wife....and people will believe it. That is sad. Christianity is a religion that is easily trashed by others. There will be a price to pay for that someday.

Wow, I didn't know PBS received tax dollars. Oh well, people are going to believe what they want anyway. It won't ever change anyone's mind unless they let it. I know it won't shake my faith, it may even make it stronger. In all fairness, I have seen many good PBS broadcasts about the Bible as well as some very informative shows about Islamism.

When you consider the number of people who watch PBS who are on the fence as far as belief in God and the Bible is concerned, and there are numbers up here in Canada, you can see that damage this program will do. It is getting to the point when men call good evil, and evil good and this is one more excuse for the ungodly to disprove the Bible and say it is a myth. I have never supported PBS, the cost to get some of the books, dvds, and cds offered were way too high. And the quote by Producer Paula Apsell that "The Bible's Buried Secrets" it is designed for intelligent people to change their minds shows her motives. She wants the Bible to disappear from the scrutiny of intelligent men and women. God help us all if this happens.

This is true...people so easily get evil and good mixed up today. This will just make it worse.

Hi Donald, I think that this is a program that everyone should watch, if they have any interest in the Bible. If you want to believe the Bible exactly as it's written, that's fine but everyone don't feel that way. Anyone wanting to promote the idea that the Bible is te inspired word of God should at least know what the enemy is saying. Blessings.

...I honestly still don't see why it's so horrible that they're putting such a show up. It's like any other show out there; if you don't like it, don't watch it. I won't be. There have been hundreds of shows out there with people attempting to disprove the Bible, or various parts of it... or disproving various other religons and their holy books.

As a Christian, I don't want my tax dollars paying for it.
