My birthday was earlier this month and I recieved some wonderful gifts...even though I have way more then I already need....but for my 40th birthday...my mom and dad gave me a burial plot. When they went to get their gravesites, they bought two extra. One for me and one for my older sister in case we never married again. They wanted to make sure we had a place for our final resting...close to them! It was a very thoughtful but very strange gift I think! Have you ever gotten something very strange or weird for a gift?

You received a very different gift from your parents but I do think it's a really thoughtful gift. It's reality! I admire them for thinking of you in this manner and making your final resting place near them. So sweet. I can't recall receiving anything really different for a birthday gift. My husband bought me a new car last year so that was a really nice gift.

I'll tell him you suggested he buys me another new car. Will let you know what he says if I can repeat it in a discussion...lol

Wow, for me its not a wierd gift. Its a very practical one coz you know we will all be going there sooner or later. Its great that they were thoughtful enough to give you that gift, if I were your place I would be very grateful.

Hi jillhill. I agree, I think your parents were quite thoughtful to give you a burial plot for your birthday. I can't think of anything weird or strange that I've ever gotten for my birthday. I have wracked my brain, and I can't come up with a single thing. Nada. I'm sure that there will be other myLotters who will have some "good" birthday gifts to talk about. Take cae.

Hi Jill, Firstly belated congratulations for your birthday earlier this month. I hope you enjoyed. What a very strange gift indeed from your parents but I guess in a way it was a thoughtful one but one I myself wouldn't have been too impressed to receive especially for my fortieth, they say life begins at forty so to be given your own plot then ??? I would have far rather my parents had just done that at a random time and got me something completely different for my birthday. I have never received any strange presents for my birthday. Ellie :D

I think at the time my mother knew she was going to die...she always said she would die young and she did....so I guess in her way she was still taking care of her kids...

I get very useful gifts like ballpens and watches and shirts. I never got any burial plots for my birthday. I guess they know they don't need to because I tell everybody I am going to live forever or a hundred whichever is longer.

Thats a good thought to keep.......to live to be a hundred!

It is an unusual gift but at least you don't have to worry about where you will be buried. I don't know much about the process as we get cremated but I hear it can be difficult to get a spot.

No jillhill, I don't think I can top that one. :o) I know it is a strange gift but it actually is a good idea. It's certainly something that everyone will need one of these days. But I can see where it would feel like a very strange gift to get on your 40th birthday. Just hope it will be years and years and years before you use this birthday gift. Nana

Now that is a very odd and kinda creepy gift. LOL By the way, happy belated birthday. My mother in law was the queen of strange gifts. I remember one year I almost felt like a kid again - MY gift was the biggest under the tree and I couldn't wait to open it. Then I did and I felt so foolish. She had bought a case of toilet paper and gift wrapped it. My next give I opened was a case of laundry detergent. This was her way of saving me money with grocery shopping. I learned quickly after that to not expect anything I really wanted. And if I did, well then it was indeed a surprise.

I have never recieved a gift that was thoughtful but very strange. Although I have heard of this happening before. I think it is more common that the parents buy there own plots because they do not want to be a burden to their children financially when they are gone. It is nice to here that your parents care about you two enough to think about your future after they are gone. You have some very loving parents.

This would be a very weird gift for sure. I am not sure what I would think if someone would do this for me as well. Yes, eventually it is of necessity to consider having something like this, but as a Birthday gift? I am sure I have gotten strange gifts before, but cannot really remember any of them, but I know they do not compare to yours as well.

that's a nice gift. Nowadays, it's best to be prepared for the future, including our own deaths. the cost of acquiring burial lot is getting more expensive.

even though that would disturb me i think that was a really cool thing that they thought about that for everyone.. i think the weirdest gift i have gotten was a baby stroller for an wedding present.. we weren't then or are having kids so i guess they thought me getting married at 17 was for a "reason" but still seemed um.. weird lol.. i didnt care though.. i didnt really know the relatives

I don't think that's weird. It's like buying a house and lot for your home. Only if you will die. That's a one of a kind birthday gift. Enjoy...just kidding. Happy mylotting!

It's kind of strange owning two plots of land, one with a house on it and another with a tombstone on it! LOL
