I have a Dell 1520 Inspiron laptop. It came with a one year warranty. The power cable broke so Dell will send me a replacement cable. They mentioned that my warranty will run out later this month. They offered me one more years warranty for £80 and I wonder if this is worth it. In my first year one of the keys fell off and the power cable broke.
Does your laptop have a warranty? If so for how long?
What do you think you will do if the warranty runs out?

11/2008 my warrantee runs out. Not sure what I will do, it depends on how much money I have. My warantee was for 4 years, so not sure they will renew it anyway. They may want me to buy another computer.

Hmmm, I am not sure - I have the same laptop and nothing has gone wrong with it yet coming up to it's first year next month. Maybe if you think it is worth it you should do. x

I bought an Acer in January this year. It came with a one year warrenty, and to date I haven't had any problems. There will be an option to renew, however I don't know the cost yet.

I always get a bit upset at being asked to pay for extra warranty time. It feels to me like I'm paying for something that should work for that same amount of time anyways. Unfortunately, it has been proved something needed a few times already, so I caved in and have been buying extra warranty time for a few items.
My laptops were some of the things that I got extra warranty for. Same with my LCD tv. But not for my digital camera. The one year it came with is more than enough, in one year my camera is completely obsolete anyways.
Still although I have done it for a few things I still don't like it. Nowadays things are made to last very little so we can spend money and buy them again, that's not what should be.
Since I had to buy the extended warranty for some things I use it to the limit - a nice suggestion from a salesperson, He told us people often pay for the extra warranty but rarely use it for what they have the right to, they tend to use it only when the things brake down. He tolds us that justt after one year we should call them to fix the image in our lcd tv, he also said that we also had the right for a new remote control and that we should ask for it at some point. So when I do pay extra, then I use it for all that I can even when things did not brake.

If I where you will extend my laptop warranty. I am using Dell to but different model. I am using Inspiron 6400. My warranty is also one year. I did extend my warranty. After few weeks I extend my warranty, my laptop keyboard and power cable was spoil. Dell replace it with new. If I didn't extend it, then I have to pay for the item and service charged for it. It safe about 400 ringgit malaysia.

I have an Lenovo/IBM laptop that came in with a one year warranty as well.
I did not get an extended warranty because I know that Lenovo brand is durable and I won't have problems as long as I use it with care. If my laptop already lasted for a year I would say that it has been fully tested and does not have a malfunctioning part so I would not extend anymore the warranty.
It the laptop lasts for 2 or 3 years more, then it has served it purpose and would need upgrading or a replacement already because of new models available and new software that would hardly run on it. However, if it continuously perform after 5 years, then you must really be a good user.

an extended waranty is good depending on the issues that you might have with it. I myself have a Dell latitude D530 and havent had a problem with it yet. i also have 2 inspiron 600m laptop computers with out a problem so for me not getting the extended warranty was worth it. But I could have lost out at the same time the decision is yours.

There is a big chance that I do extend warranty if the unit I am using shall cost me more than 10,000 USD. But since I bought my laptop for only 400 USD, then I won't.

I have a Neo V2120 and I also have one year warranty. My LAN is functioning well but I haven't visited NEO yet.
Honestly, I really don't know what to do if my warranty runs out. I can't really control time so I guess I just have to accept the fact that the warranty period is over.
What I can do though is take good care of my laptop so that it wouldn't get bump, fall down or anything that might cause it to break down. :D
