Beach vacation vs Historical town? |
| |
| We are planning to go on a short weekend trip to Malacca, a tiny historical town in Malaysia. It is not our dream vacation though. We would love have a beach vacation, but many beach resorts are closed this time of the year, due to the monsoon season. Still, I'm looking forward to it. I really need a break, even though we had one in June, but that seemed a long time ago. I have been to Malacca a few times. The last time I went was with my hubby and we explored all the museums in the area. It was pretty fun. There was even a museum in the shape of a ship! How about you? Would you enjoy a trip to a small historical town with lots of museums or would you rather laze on the beach in the sun? | | | | | |

| | I'll certainly go with the historical town, its not everytime you can go to an historic town you could only which it once or twice in your life. And while beaches will never be gone once you want to go to the beach. goodday | | | |

| | Hi there Sydney! I'm sorry to hear that you can't have your dream vacation but I sure hope that you'll have a really fun vacation in Malacca. I will definitely choose going to a historical town but that's because we live near a beach and can go and swim there anytime that we like. | | | | | | |

| | YOu are so lucky to live near a beach. For us, the beach is less than an hour's ride so I should not complain. But the beach here is not in the open sea. It's different. I want turquiose waters, white sandy beaches, and tiny fishes swimming near the rocks. I miss Redang Island. It was one of the best beach destination I have ever been to. | | | |

| | i like to have a mixture of both. i really like to lounge around on the beach but i also like to go sight seeing in the local towns and villages. spain is the perfect place to do this. in spain ther are lovely sandy beaches but also small villages with narrow streets and flat roofed houses. happy mylotting | | | | | | |

| | I would love to go to Spain. I have seen movies made there and they have such beautiful beaches. And I love to visit quaint little towns too. I get a littl ebored with those around here, but would not mind something different. Thank you for your response! | | | |

| | Beach vacation anytime for me too! That's because I used to study in Melaka (that's what we called that state in Malaysia). If you're going there on weekend, don't miss out the Jonker Walk where they have all these small stalls selling handicraft and stuff. Also try out the chicken rice balls, Baba & Nyonya food (the famous restaurant is quite far away in Melaka Raya), seafood in Portuguese settlement, cendol (green thing which tastes very nice, normally mixed with ice), satay celup (which looks a bit 'dirty', but it's nice too!). Besides that, I have no clue what should you do in Melaka anymore except for the museums. Maybe next time round, you can try to go Penang island and Langkawi island. They are very near to each other, and they are located in West coast of Malaysia, not affected by the monsoon. In the east part of Malaysia, you can go to Redang and Perhentian islands when there's no monsoon. If you're a diving fan, go to Sipadan island near Sabah. :) I do sound like a tour guide =_= | | | | | | |

| | HI Day dreamer, Thank you for all your suggestions. Yes, I'm going to spend a lot of the time eating over there and trying all the different kinds of food you have suggested. I have never tried satay celup. Does it look like the normal satay? I'm hoping to go to a weekend market. Do they have any at Melaka? I have been to Penang (a couple of times), Langkawi (a long time ago!) and Redang (once). I love Redang! I would love to go there again and stay for a week! But it can get a little expensive. We flew from Singapore at that time because we did nto want to take the long coach ride. We had wanted to "get there fast and take it slow" like the song Kokomo. I have not been to Sipadan or Perhentian islands, I heard they are beautiful. Thank you so much for all your suggestions! | | | |

| | You can get night market throughout Malaysia every day of the week, depending on the location. In Melaka, I believe it's on Saturday and the area is somewhere near Jaya Jusco. I can't really remember the name of the place because it has been many years since my last visit. Satay celup is not really the typical satay though they do look alike. There are many different kinds of food, each type served on a single stick. For example, you will get sausages in one stick, vegetable in one stick, etc. All these are not cooked. You need to cook them by dipping them into boiling gravy which is similar to the gravy used by the normal satay. Some people said it's not very hygiene which is quite true. That's why you should try to go there earlier :) | | | |

| | Oo Hawaii sounds like a nice place to visit. I would love to know how the native people live there. I'm more of a cultural person than a historical tourist. I love to watch people perform native dances or rituals. That interests me. But I love to laze at the beach the most. Hawaii would have been the perfect beach vacation for me and my family! Thanks for your response, Pat! | | | |

| | I enjoy historical places more, believe it or not. Swimming is fun, but I can do that at home in summer. I like visiting history! | | | | | | |

| | I have been to Malaysia and its beaches and islands are gorgeous looking. I went to Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Mersing and Tioman Island. I like to have a trip when I see a number of different places. As much as I love going to tropical beaches after a few days I would get bored so then I go off to a historic town to see the architecture as well as visit museums. I wish that I had visited Malacca because it sounds like the sort of place I would have really enjoyed. Monsoon season can be wet so it was wise of you to be careful about deciding where to go on your weekend trip. I hope that you will have a lovely time. | | | | | | |

| | Well Sydney, what do you need? Do you need to lay about in the sun? Is that the kind of time you'd want to spend? Personally I would enjoy the museums myself...I can only lay about for so long... need to DO THINGS. I get bored, and I can't take the Sun for long...pale skin. I'd opt for the Historical town....also good if the weather doesn't work out for you. That would ruin the beach trip for me. Just a thought.... Have a good one regardless of choice! | | Hi Kashigurl, What I need right now is a full body massage. I badly need it. I wouldn't mind having a massage by the beach. No! I wouldn't do that; I'm too shy. I would love to be at the beach. It's much more relaxing than the towns. Thank you for your response! | | | |

| | I'd rather laze in the sun ! Museums are nice but they are only for seeing. Beaches are for lazing, drinking, having fun with friends and whatever else ! So beaches are more fun. | | | | | | |

| | I love to laze in the sun too. Sometimes we all work so hard. I work hard to look after my daughter too. So sometimes we deserve a break. Beaches are excellent places for that. Thank you for your response! | | | |
