I had budgies since I was a child. The are funny and do learn how to whistle and imitate human voice too with some limitations. Do you own a budgie? Or if not what pet do you have? © ronaldinu 2008

I didn't know what is budgie, until I read your discussion and went and searched for it. It seems to be quite a common pet? I never have one. I only had fish when I was young, but actually that was not my pet too, it was my brother's. I have yellow Labrador now, she's already one year old. She keeps barking while I'm typing now.

budgie - This is the budgie (parakeet) that I had.
I did, up until about a month ago. Unfortunately he flew away. Actually he was flying around in a few of our trees. My husband and I whistled to him for hours and he would whistle back. But when it got dark out we had to give up. When morning came I tried again, but there was no answer. Poor little bird...

Honestly my friend, I don't even know what is a budgie! Forgive me for my ignorance! Ha!ha!ha! I am not very fond of pets as well. I only keep 2 watchdogs. I love to keep plants and flowers around me more than keeping pets!

I am ashamed to admit that I had to search what a budgie was since I had no clue what it was. Budgie has several meanings: * Budgerigar, a type of bird * Budgie (band), a rock band o Budgie (album), the self-titled debut album of the above band * Budgie (TV series), a 1971 British TV drama starring Adam Faith * Budgie (drummer), the pseudonym of Pete Clarke, drummer of Siouxsie & the Banshees and The Creatures * Budgie the Little Helicopter, a children's cartoon series by Sarah, Duchess of York * "Budgie" is a slang term for a helicopter * "Budgies" is a pejorative reference to "The Canaries", the nickname of Norwich City F.C. So since you asked about what type of pet we had if we didn't have one I assumed it is the bird. Funny how one thing can have so many different meanings..

I do not have a budgie. I have never heard of one. I however do have several pets. I have two dogs and a turtle. My dogs are both miniature pinschers. My turtle is a baby painted turtle that my hsuband gave me because he knows I love animals and will take care of it.

CanadaGal and Katie - me and my little sweetheart
I've never had a budgie as a pet, nor any kind of other bird for that matter. What I do have right now is a sweet little kitten. She's about 2 1/2 months old now, and the sweetest little thing ever! I've attached a photo of Katie and I so you can see for yourself.

We have two cockatiels called Rupert and Shagfeather. Birds are lovely, and ours enjoy a fly around the living room. One of our daughters used to have pet rats when she was a teenager living at home. They were intelligent and loving pets, too.

Right now we do not have pets. My man has a dog but he lives with my family in law at our farm. I have had two budgies - my sister had three. Budgies are great I think. They do so have different personalities. People seem to thing budgies are "just birds" and not fun pets. They are sooo wrong. We had one that talked quite a bit. He even knew some Greek. We've had strict ones, funny ones, a small and scared one. Budgies are just great

We always had a blue parakeet when I was growing up. They sang to us and entertained us. I can't have a bird now, as I keep the house too cold for a bird to be comfortable--both to save money and because I like the temperature lower than most people. So now I have Gus and Cookie, a Boston Terrier and a Rat Terrier. They are the last pets I will have since I'm 54 and I don't want a pet to outlive me. My dogs usually live an average of 15 years.

Hi ronaldinu, My mother used to have budgies when I was young and they used to talk, but now I don't have any as they do make a lot of mess and I have cats anyway, a fale cat and a female cat, they are very spoilt and I love them so much. Tamara

In the US they are generally referred to as Parakeets. I have had three of them throughout the years. My first was named Fernando. He could say a few things. He was let out of the cage and would fly from one curtain rod to another and if I held out my hand, he would land on it. He also sat on my shoulder and liked to chatter in my ear. He was very sweet! My second one was called Spike. He was not let out of the cage since he never wanted to go back in. He had quite a vocabulary: "hey, bird", "my name is spike", "crazy bird" and my favorite "here kitty, kitty!" Sometimes these came out all scrambled. For example: "here crazy kitty!" etc. He copied several different whistles including the "wolf whistle". He could imitate the sound of an audience laughing on TV. He also copied the cupboard doors opening and the door to the house opening too. This fooled my husband one time into thinking that someone had entered our house uninvited! Our third bird was named Mimi. My son had his mind set on purchasing a parakeet that day. I had wanted a male because they are more talkative. This bird was a sweet bird but she never learned to talk. She didn't live very long either. I would love to get another bird!

What are budgies? They sound like fun to have! I have 2 cats and 2 dogs (chihuahuas), all of whom are pretty pampered and spoiled. There are pictures of them on my profile page. Is there a picture of your budgie? Would love to see it.

I do not own any, although I think they are very cute. I own two dogs, a cat, a turle, a bird, hermit crabs and fish. I am a big animal lover, I have always been surrounded by a ton of animals.
