Short sleep tied to heart disease risk |
|
Ifound this article which stresses the importance of having an eight hours of sleep daily. Here is the link http://www.timesofmalta.c... with high blood pressure who get less than the standard amount of sleep may face an increased risk of heart disease and stroke, researchers reported yesterday.
In a study of more than 1,200 Japanese adults with high blood pressure, the investigators found that those who slept for less than 7.5 hours each night were more likely to suffer a heart attack or stroke or die of cardiac arrest over a four-year period.
At particular risk were “short sleepers” who failed to have a blood-pressure dip that normally occurs overnight.

3. sickache (424) | 1 year ago | I will be a candidate too. I usually sleep for only 7 hours and sometimes only 5 or less. It is rare that I slept for 8 hours and more. Fortunately, my blood pressure is normal every time I visit the clinic for checkup.
Long ago, We had this blood donation sponsored by a certain organization where I belong. I was thin then because of overtime and other stuffs as a graduating student. I participated on that activity thinking that I could not donate my blood because for me I am anemic. Unfortunately the nurse had told me that I am one of those guys who can proceed to the donation. I was scared because it was my first time. The good thing is my blood pressure is normal and also my heart beat. I can't really believe the results of the checkup though I was very happy that time.

Well its an eye opener, pardon my pun, I really should have my eith hours but I don't, I have about 5 hours sleep per day, but I haven't got high blood pressure though, my husband has 12 hours sleep because when he gets up, he normally do the usual things but alsways sleep in the afternoon for a few hours, then when he gets up, he eats stay up for a little while watching tv and then go off to bed again, he loves his sleep, but I just cannot sleep as much as him.

8. walijo2008 (3741) | 1 year ago | Well I'm glad that I get enough sleep, I get about 8 hrs of sleep a night, but I usually wake up at least once during the night, but I always go right back to sleep. I know we all need to get enough rest for our health, sometimes its hard for some people.

9. sierras236 (495) | 1 year ago | Sleep has always been important. I am not surprised that a link has been found between lack of sleep and heart stroke. What did surprise me was the amount of sleep that was actually needed. I guess sleep is far more important than anyone thought.
