How much do you hate spam email?

I've had my one email address for about seven years now and it's just getting attacked constantly by spam email. I have signed up for a lot of things so naturally I guess I've come to expect getting spam every now and then. However, I think hotmail is just really bad at filtering out all that junk. Today I've decided to undertake changing from my really old email address to a more current address and then finally deleting that hotmail account. It will be nice not encountering junk email all the time. The only thing that is a pain is trying to determine where I've used that email so I can find all the accounts and change it before I delete it. To help, I've made myself a list and as I change the accounts, I'm crossing them off but I feel like I'm missing some. Have you ever decided to delete one email account because of all the spam? How long did it take for you to change all your accounts before you could finall delete it? And, most importantly, did you forget any accounts after deletion?

If getting junk email is what you call spam, then I get lots of that everyday. The mistake I made was that I used the same email that I communicate with my friends to sign up to many internet opportunities. As a result, I get bombarded with lots of spam from many marketers trying to sell their stuff and I don't want to delete this email because I also get emails from my friends here. I won't say all the junk are bad. Some of them offer freebies and useful advices for internet marketers, so at times I do benefit from them. But what I am annoyed with these days are the increasing occurrences of phishing emails...you know, the kind that says you have won some lottery, gotten some inheritances, someone trying to send you a postal order, people asking you to be their beneficiaries, companies asking you to verify your bank accounts, etc. I don't know where they got hold of my email account. I seem to get more and more of them over the weeks and I can't stop their flow other than reporting them as spam. Looks like I have to live with these inconveniences as long as my email account is not changed.

Hi there, thanks for your vote. I just logged in to my email and saw that I got this best response...certainly makes my weekend brighter!! Before signing in here, I just deleted 5 phishing emails that came into my inbox the past 18 hours. Many of them are from Africa. I wonder who's sending all these out.

I hate spam a whole bunch especially the ones that relate to body parts I don't have. Did you try turning on your junk filter in hotmail? I did that and I've found it works well. Although, gmail has a better one. I've never deleted an email account because of spam. You must get some really terrible ones to do that.

I did turn on my junk filter but for some reason it sends emails that I keep adding to my safe list, to my junk mail folder so I have to keep looking in my junk mail for emails that I may have missed. Otherwise I may miss something important.

Among all my email account, hotmail has the worst spam mail filtering, therefore I am not using hotmail as my official email account. I just use the email for the sake to log into my MSN messenger. Actually spam does not influence me much as most of them are sent to the spam mail folder. Once a while I will browse through to see any important email in that folder and clear all of the mails at my spam mail folder. I'm glad that most of the free webmails have such feature to ease the users.

Yes, I hate spammers with a passion. They are even below telemarketers and door to door sales people. I hate spammers because it is against the law and they are usually selling fake stuff as well so they are wasting my time as I am not interested. I have had to close a couple of email accounts because of them and put up with their garbage in others because either I have them bouncing spam or it is not to the point where it is intolerable. What you should do is use disposable email accounts. As soon as spam starts coming through you just close it. Some disposable email services you can just give one email to each person and when spam comes through you know who sold your email address to spammers.

I hear a lot of people complain about SPAM when they use hotmail. I always suggest them just to try Gmail (http://www.gmail.com/) and people are always satisfied with it once they find out how it works. I think people get hundreds spam messages daily, no matter which email you have. Although Gmail has a "spam" section and I barely get a spam message in my inbox. Besides, Gmail has 7 GigaByte storage which truely helps. Plus it's faster than hotmail too. Anyway, try it out.

I check my emails daily so get a lot of spam messages daily which is quite annoying but I keep them deleting on daily basis.I used to use another emailid which I use now.The problem due to which I left that email was due to 100's of spam messages daily and it wasn't easy to delete them so I opened a new email account.

It won't take long before you start getting spammed again. A list is a good idea.

I haven't but if I did I think I would keep the old account open just in case something came through. Might get too overwhelming to manage it though!

I love spam! Here's what I do. You write for AC correct. What a better way to get some page views. I send spam back to the spammers and link all sorts of stuff to them. I've even had them reply with thanks for a silly link I sent. Or, if you have an ex and you really want them to suffer send the spammers their e-mail. The contents of this message will self destruct in 5 4 3 2 ...

That's why I keep multiple accounts. I have gotten to the point where I have different accounts for different purposes. That is also a good way to figure out which companies sell your info to third parties.

I use 2 accounts one in gmail and another one in yahoo. gmail controls almost all the spam mail and send them to spam folder. but yahoo is not so good in that thing.
