Taking Back My Craft Room

United States
November 16, 2008 12:43pm CST
My hubby told me that he wanted to remove the bed that is in the guest room so I could make this room into my craft room. This was something that I had wanted to do since we moved to this place. When the grandkids came along it became the guest room. Working on my crafts has always brought me joy. Years ago I would sit for hours working on wreaths, decorative wall pieces, sewing, and other crafty things. Now I am not so active with it. I do miss doing my craft work. Hubby is right, it is time to take back the craft room. The kids can always sleep on an air mattress. It is not like they are here every day! ~sigh~

I would love to learn how to paint. Painting on slate is something that is of interest to me. I do a bit of writing, but nothing that will ever bring me pay.

Wow, that isn't bad! Even with my lack of words this could be possible?

you can get odds and ends writing about 30 to 50 dollars a month if you are not with a good writing company.

I am sure your grandkids will love sleeping on the floor on an air mattress, I know my grandson loves it, that or pull the bed out on the sofa. That is good that you will have a craft room and will enjoy getting back into doing something you really enjoy. Good for your husband for bringing it up.

I didn't want to do it at first. But, after thinking about it I decided it was a great idea.

There are always other places for kids to sleep. You need the space. It will give time to restore yourself when you are off work. Maybe a futon or sleeper sofa in there would work.

This room would be for me. I could listen to my music while working on my creations.

Enjot your room! You are so lucky to be talented in crafting. The only thing I can does is crocheting and I really enjoy doing it in the winter when I make afghans.

I didn't know people actually had craft rooms! That sounds like a lot of fun, it will probably be a lot easier to keep things organized if you have a whole entire room for the purpose.

We could keep a folding bed in there in case the kids do come for a sleep over. Having a room to put all of my craft supplies in rather than scattered around the house would be good.

You are absolutely right. It is time to have your craft room again. It is something that you enjoy doing and you should do it. I had another room built onto the house for my husband to have his room. He can go in there and smoke and be on his computer. I have breathing problems and no one can smoke in the house. This room is good for him and the other smokers. It has an exhaust system in it for clearing out the air. A huge picture window that looks out over the back of the property, they can watch the deer play out there as well as seeing the other animal frolicking out there. They can relax and do what they do in there, without it affecting me or others in the home. I have another room in the home for my crafting and what I do. Enjoy your room!

I wish I had a craft room. We have a two bedroom apartment and one room is our bedroom and the other is our office room. We both have really big desks and so we take up most of the room. Maybe one day I'll get to have a craft room again. ~~MY OWN PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG AND BELIEVE IN YOURSELF**

I think you will love it. I turned my son's room into a library/music room. He jokingly complains about it when he comes home for the holidays, but I do have my daughter's old bedroom fixed up for him. For Thanksgiving, my nephew from Florida is coming with his family, so I'm going to put the air mattress in the library. Those air mattresses are pretty comfortable to sleep on. I keep one at my son's house to use whenever I go visit him, and I sleep on one when I visit my nephew. Have fun with your crafts. You'll have to post pictures of what you make.

That will be nice for you, having a room especially for your crafting. I think that is something I might like to have one day, a room just for me where I can go and chill out and be on my own and do my own thing. I just have to do my things where I can and that is usually when I am surrounded by kids!

Your hubby is right - and it's great that he looks out for your interests that way! After we left home years ago, my mother took over my brother's bedroom as her "office" and my dad turned my room into his hobby shop, where he could build airplane models without worrying about all the tools and little pieces being a danger to the younger grandchildren. I say go for it!

We have two spare rooms none of which my husband is allowing me to do anything with =P so good for you lolzz... yes exactly they can sleep on air mattresses ;) besides you guys could have it like a sort of slumber party thing... when guests used to come over to our home they'd take our room (mine and my siblings) and we'd camp out in the living room we'd stay up for hours lol... even though when i visited my folks i had my own room and my sister and brother each had their own we STILL camped out because we got to talk which gave my mother a headache... (felt sorry for her but didn't shut us up much lol) Having a favorite hobby that you can literally dedicate a room to will encourage you to have fun more often and spend time on your projects ;) good for you =)

Oh, how wonderful. I need to do the same. Actually just need to take the whole house back from clutter. I have been in perpetual transition for over ten years. We shall both start crafting together.

You hubby is right. Your craft room is more important than guest room. You need to take care of yourself, plus you don't have visitors everyday.

I am waiting for the day when I can have my own office/library. I want a place where I can be alone with all my books and my writing. Since I bought a lap top, the PC is shared between my two girls and me. I am tired of the mess down there and them always getting into my stuff. I want my own space. So I don't blame you want for wanting your craft room back. And since the kids aren't living at home, you should definitely have it!

Hello ElusiveButterfly. It is nice of your husband to take back the craft room for you so that you can go on with your hobby of doing some crafts there in the room.

Definately take back your craft room, especially if that is what makes you happy. Like you said the kids can always blow up an air mattress to sleep on. It's your home and you should enjoy it as much as you can. Good for you for taking back what you love.
