My little one, who's 10 months old, is going to be walking very soon. He's been standing for months, and cruising along the furniture. Now for the past week he's been letting go of the furniture or whatever he's holding and just standing there for a few moments. Sometimes he'll bounce himself while standing up because he's so excited, but his balance is getting so much better because he doesn't fall when he bounces anymore. It won't be long before he tries taking his first steps without holding anything!
My 2 older boys were about 10 months old when they took their first steps. My daughter wouldn't let go of the furniture until she was 14 months, and my toddler was just over a year when he finally started walking.

Our oldest I thought would walk around 10 months too. She started letting go of stuff and standing on her own and she would take like one step between stuff. But she didn't end up walking till right after she turned a year. It was like she just decided it was time and crossed the room. Our middle one was right around a year also. I can't say for sure when she would have walked because she had hip displasia when she was born, so she spent the first 9 months of her life in a brace that held her legs up and out some so that her hips could grow into place. So she did pretty good with her milestones considering that. Our youngest started walking a little bit after he turned one also. About a week after his birthday he just decided it was time and bam he walked as much as possible.

The braces must have been tough for all of you. I know my youngest has been so irritated at his own limitations. At 3 months old you could just tell that he was ticked off that he wasn't able to crawl around to play with the other kids. Now he can crawl and stand and cruise, but he still gets upset when he's not fast enough for his siblings or when he can't get into a certain room. He doesn't like being limited.

children are all so different when they start to walk. My first son was walking very well at 9 months. The second son walked at one year exactly. The third son would not even try to walk,. At 16 months he was sitting happily on the sofa looking at a book and saying words quite clearly. I remmber that in frustration I took him off the sofa and put him on the floor and commanded to walk! He took a step very tentatively! My fourth child - a daughter walked at 13 months. It is just their developmenal pattern but very exciting when they actually do take that first step. I always read your posts with interest but I am of a much oldre age group than you

Most of mine have developed rather evenly, although I could tell slight differences. Like my oldest was not nearly ready to walk when he did, but he's always been all about moving. My younger ones were all about brain power, espeically my daughter. She could have walked long before she did, she just didn't want to.

It's been a while. But without looking it up in her baby book, my daughter was just at a year. Maybe a week or so after.

My eldest started walking at twelve months, my second child started walking at eleven months. My third son was rather lazy and he showed no signs of wanting to walk at all, he was sixteen months when he first took a step and even then we had to force him! My daughter started to walk on her first birthday which I thought was really rather sweet, a nice birthday present.

My youngest started at nine months. he was and still is my dare devil child. He loved to play in the plastic containers cabinet. When he first started walking he hid in the cabinet as I searched the house. He thought it was so funny when I opened it and saw him in there.. well actually it was pretty funny. He would try to clear a jump off the sofa and over the coffee table. Scary kid he was. My oldest didn't walk until a year. That may be because mom, who was new at this "mom thing", was always right there

My two daughters started a little later than most. They were over a year before they walked. Mostly due to the fact that they were so roly-poly as babies. We didn't overfeed them or anything, they were just chubby babies! So much so that we had to prop them up with pillows when they sat up on their own, otherwise they'd literally topple over. My son learned pretty quick. He came out bigger than his sisters but "slimmed up" as a baby. I'd say he started about 9 months.
It's so much fun when they discover they can walk. Enjoy!
