Would you or have you ever given a used item as a gift?
Have you ever recieved a used item?
Certain things I don't mind giving or recieving used. Many holidays I'll give my children used clothing from the Thrift store. Actually they each got an outfit for their birthday from the Salvation Army. Past Christmases their clothing gifts came from the Salvation Army.
Also when it comes to big things like electronics and video games I don't mind giving used. I'll buy them from e-bay or a used game store like EB or Game Stop.
Last year my oldest got a used game boy I bought on e-bay, and the games came from Game Stop. For his birthday he got our old Game Cube. He didn't mind. He was just excited to have his very own video game system.
This year he's getting a used PS2 with a couple used games.
Giving used gifts may seem tacky to some, but it works for us.

I don't see anything wrong with it. I have given and gotten used gifts in the past. As long as they are still in good condition, who cares it they are used. My kids used to get a lot of clothes from thrift stores. My son still gets some shirts from thrift stores, but I rarely find pants in his size.

yeah, it's hard to find boys pants at thrift stores, I usually have to just settle on whatever they have that's close enough. But that's why I go often, if I go at least once a month I can usually find things we can use.

It sure makes things a bit more affordable, and of course you can find things there that you can't always find in regular stores, so that's a plus too.

I don't see any problem with giving used gifts at all. A couple of years ago I spent the year buying up second hand paperbacks that my sister would enjoy. By christmas time I had an enormous boxful for her, far more reading material than I'd have been willing to buy new. Great for a voracious reader!
My son's birthday present from his grand-parents this year was second hand and he doesn't care one bit. He has just as much fun, and it's meant that there's more money in the kitty for something else another day.

It depends, many good things you can only get used. A great example are PS2 games many of which are sold in blockbuster for about $8. I got my friend one of these last year and he was very happy with it, so I'd say it's fine to give certain kinds of things used as gifts. There are also things like antiques, historical items, and (for those of us who are interested like me) old scientific instruments, electronics, etc... You are right though, games make a great gift new or used, since they don't really wear out at all or anything.

For us, used clothing is a good gift too, just because my kids go through clothes like there's no tomorrow. They grow so fast and wear them out or rip through them too quickly. I get them new clothes on occasion, but also get them plenty of used clothes.

Used gifts can be just as nice as new gifts. My daughter buys used Playstation games for her kids at times, and movies, too. AND I know she's bought them for Christmas, too. If you don't tell anyone, they never know. And kids don't really care. Speaking of clothing, my daughter had on a beautiful sweater Thanksgiving. I commented on how pretty it was, and she said,'this is my Thrift Store sweater'.
I told her she should never have said anything and I would never have known it. The sweater looked brand new. We've bought things at the Thrift Store and at the Flea Markets - not for Christmas, but bought them just the same. Nothing wrong with buying these things.
