JC Penneys or Walmart?

My mom used to have a JC Penney card, and for holidays she would give me a gift card to the store. One year she gave me a $300 gift card to buy my son his back to school clothes. I was able to buy him everything he needed, but there was nothing left over! Then she got herself a Walmart Credit Card. After she got this card she asked me if I'd prefer a JC Penney card or a Walmart card for holidays and back to school shopping. I told her I'd prefer the Walmart card. I can get more for the money, and I see no sense in buying expensive clothes for my kids that they're just going to outgrow in a few months. Which would you have chosen and why?

I would have chosen walmart too. If it was for my kids especially because they always need clothes and stuff for school. My daughter got new shoes at the start of school, she already needs new ones because they are coming apart at the front and her feet are getting wet. If it was for me I would still chose walmart. You can get more for you money. Plus you can also get groceries at walmart too. Since money was tight we asked for walmart cards for christmas this year so that we could use them to get groceries and stuff the kids would need.

I do agree with some of the other posters that the stuff at JC Penney's lasts longer. That's part of spending more money, you'll get better quality. But I'm like you, I'd rather buy cheap. Usually it means I have to buy more often, but I can't always afford $30 for a pair of jeans, especially when I have to buy jeans for 7 people.

I would prefer the Walmart card too. Not only can you get more, but you can also get groceries etc.

If someone gives you a gift card for a holiday or something, you shouldn't be spending it on groceries... unless you're buying yourself some chocolate or something.

For clothes I prefer JC Penney, but for other things I would have chosen the Wal-Mart card.

They have some nice things at Penney's aside from clothes too. One time I used $100 that my mom gave me for Christmas on a vibrating bouncy seat for my babies, and a deep fryer for us. I still have the deep fryer over 6 years later. The bouncy seat however has been thrown out. I couldn't figure out how to get the cloth off to clean it.

I would prefer the Walmart one for the same reasons you would. Kids outgrow their clothes so quickly that it seems a waste to spend $30 on a pair of jeans when you can get them 2 at Walmart for that price.

For myself I wouldn't mind spending that much money on clothes, because at least my clothes last a long time. Problem is last time I went to Penney's to buy clothes for myself, I couldn't find anything I liked.

We don't have either JC Penneys or Walmart where I live, though I'm familiar with Walmart because they own Asda. I think I'd choose the Walmart card. I'm guessing the choice is wider and the prices lower. If I ended up with credit remaining I could always spend it on other household essentials.

Walmart card is definitely the way to go. Been to JC Penney and Walmart during these trying times and I am for Walmart all the way. Most of the things in Walmart anyway are what we need and they last too.

I buy at WalMart lots, and I've had several WalMart gift cards. But I had rather have one from JC Penneys, if it's for me. I can find clothes there to fit me and my husband. We can't find anything at WalMart for us since we are very tall. We always buy when things are on sale, anyway.
