JC Penneys or Walmart? |
| |
| My mom used to have a JC Penney card, and for holidays she would give me a gift card to the store. One year she gave me a $300 gift card to buy my son his back to school clothes. I was able to buy him everything he needed, but there was nothing left over! Then she got herself a Walmart Credit Card. After she got this card she asked me if I'd prefer a JC Penney card or a Walmart card for holidays and back to school shopping. I told her I'd prefer the Walmart card. I can get more for the money, and I see no sense in buying expensive clothes for my kids that they're just going to outgrow in a few months. Which would you have chosen and why? | | | | | |

| | For me it would be a very simple choice. I would choose JC Penney's as I am dead against Wal mart. I have found that the items purchased at wal mart do not last and fall apart faster than the items I have purchased at wal mart at the same time. I bought a sweat shirt from JC Penney's its in great shape at the same time I bought one from Wal mart 3 months later the stitching started to unravel and the cuffs at the ends of the sleave started to tear. If it was up to me I would close every wal mart in the US stating that they offer an inferior product. | | | | | | |

| | I agree that Penney's items last much longer. I bought my husband a pair of jeans there over 7 years ago and he still has them and still wears them. But Walmart jeans have ripped out on him within months of buying them. However I'm thinking about the kids. They destroy any clothes, regardless of cost or design. They'll stain it, rip it, whatever. And if they don't destroy it, then they grow out of it. I do the majority of the kid's clothes shopping at second hand stores, and anything that must be brand new is bought at Walmart. Why spend more when they won't wear it very long? | | | |

| | See I have a little girl and she dont usually stain her clothes lol. I then turn around and resell them to help purchase her new clothes the following year. I would rather have the higher quality items to resell them later on. Kids do grow so fast and I know I have bought my daughter several items to have her wear them only once before she outgrows them. All the way around its a pain in the arse lol. Why cant they just make clothes that grow with the kids instead of having to replace them lol. | | | |

| | Wouldn't that be nice? But most of my kid's clothes get stained horribly. Either from playing outside and getting grass stains on them, or at school they get paint or marker or something on them, or whatever else they do, their clothes just always look dingy and dirty. I suppose I could try harder to keep the stains out, but I just buy the cheap clothes and don't worry about the stains. Everything I purchase starts out as school clothes and once they get a stain or rip they become play clothes until they're outgrown or ripped so badly they can't be worn anymore. | | | |

| | For clothes I prefer JC Penney, but for other things I would have chosen the Wal-Mart card. | | | | | | |

| | They have some nice things at Penney's aside from clothes too. One time I used $100 that my mom gave me for Christmas on a vibrating bouncy seat for my babies, and a deep fryer for us. I still have the deep fryer over 6 years later. The bouncy seat however has been thrown out. I couldn't figure out how to get the cloth off to clean it. | | | |

| | I buy at WalMart lots, and I've had several WalMart gift cards. But I had rather have one from JC Penneys, if it's for me. I can find clothes there to fit me and my husband. We can't find anything at WalMart for us since we are very tall. We always buy when things are on sale, anyway. | | | | | | |

| | For myself I wouldn't mind spending that much money on clothes, because at least my clothes last a long time. Problem is last time I went to Penney's to buy clothes for myself, I couldn't find anything I liked. | | | |

| | I would prefer the Walmart card too. Not only can you get more, but you can also get groceries etc. | | | | | | |

| | I would have chosen walmart too. If it was for my kids especially because they always need clothes and stuff for school. My daughter got new shoes at the start of school, she already needs new ones because they are coming apart at the front and her feet are getting wet. If it was for me I would still chose walmart. You can get more for you money. Plus you can also get groceries at walmart too. Since money was tight we asked for walmart cards for christmas this year so that we could use them to get groceries and stuff the kids would need. | | | | | | |

| | I do agree with some of the other posters that the stuff at JC Penney's lasts longer. That's part of spending more money, you'll get better quality. But I'm like you, I'd rather buy cheap. Usually it means I have to buy more often, but I can't always afford $30 for a pair of jeans, especially when I have to buy jeans for 7 people. | | | |

| | We don't have either JC Penneys or Walmart where I live, though I'm familiar with Walmart because they own Asda. I think I'd choose the Walmart card. I'm guessing the choice is wider and the prices lower. If I ended up with credit remaining I could always spend it on other household essentials. | | | | | | |

| | I would definitely go with the Wal-mart card. Because, you can get more than clothes there as I'm sure you know! You can get toothpaste, toys, whatever it is you need. I would much rather have $300 to spend there! Wish I had one now, lol! | | | | | | |

| | Walmart card is definitely the way to go. Been to JC Penney and Walmart during these trying times and I am for Walmart all the way. Most of the things in Walmart anyway are what we need and they last too. | | | | | | |
