I made a wall today from a satin duvet cover LOL |
| |
| It has been so cold here today and I have stairs in my lounge so all the heat disappears up the stairway so I got so double sided tape and taped a satin duvet cover from the top and draped it down and it has made a wall, I then used the sheet to make a curtain in front of the stairway which when opened can be draped on the banister bit, looks really effecive and works really well, I am warmer already. What household items have you used for a completely different function to what they were intended. Huggles. Ellie :D | | | | | |

| | Hi Gabs, I was thinking of getting a rail and some curtains but this has worked so well and not cost anything to do and I can certainly feel the difference in the warmth of the lounge tonight though. Huggles. Ellie :D | | | |

| | Great idea! I just have one question. How the heck do you get the double sided tape to stick to the duvet? I have trouble getting even one side to stick to ANY thing. That is after I convince it to turn loose of itself on the roll. When I have to block off part of my house, I have to just use a very lightweight plastic drop cloth and thumbtack it to the ceiling. | | | | | | |

| | Hi Theneaddoodler, It was in fact doublesided carpet tape and I peeled one side and stuck to the wall section and then peeled other side off and gradually put the duvet cover along, luckily it was a perfect fit and has made the lounge a lot cosier and blocked the heat going up the stairs. | | I used to use a quilt the same way. My front hall doesn't have any insulation from what if feels like so I used to do that to block off the cold too...now I have an accordian door in front and that does the trick...but I use a towel at the bottom to block off the draft that comes underneath it. | | | | | | |

| | That sounds cosy, Ellie - and inventive! My husband built a bar many years ago for our end room - I really hate the whole 'bar-in-the-house' thing - so when he bought me a coffee machine one Christmas, I was happy when he set it up on the bar! After that, the coffee cups, grinder, cannisters, etc., all made their way out there and the bar is now a coffee bar! He still has beer on tap - but the coffee takes priority! | | | | | | |

| | Hi Guybrush, Oh it is so much cosier and has really helped keep the heat in the lounge rather than me having to sit at the top of the satirs to keep warm LOL. Wow so you have your very own coffee bar, lovely. Huggles. Ellie :D | | | |

| | That's very imaginative Ellie. We bought some new curtains for our dining room as we were hemorrhaging heat into the unused conservatory. I can't think of anything off the top of my head. I am sure that we have done something inventive. I can just imagine you and your son snuggled up in a lovely toasty lounge! XXX | | | | | | |

| | Hi P1kef1sh, Oh it has made such a difference it was warm when I came home from work which was lovely today as a bit chilly outside, doesn't look too bad either but will look into doing something more permanent in the future, but duvet fine for now LOL. Huggles. Ellie :D | | | |

| | Hi Ellie333, I do admire you for using lateral thinking to keep your house warm. Usually I use a knife for lots of several activities. One time it is uses instead of a scissor, when my beloved son hides it away in one of his drawers. Sometimes I do use the knife as a screwdriver when I can't find one handy.
