Mail |

I hate when I get the wrong mail delivered to my house. We have been living here over 6 months now and they still deliver mail to us that belongs to the previous people who lived here. How hard is it to fill out a change of address form?? I have to run to the post office today anyways, but usually it's such a big hassle I just want to toss it. Do you get mail addressed to other people? Do you throw it away if its something they probably won't need anyways? Or do you return it to the post office?

If it were mail, I'd bring it to the post office and explain. I believe it's illegal to throw out someone else's real mail

2. tinkerick (1009) | 12 months ago | OMG! I totally know what you mean. We've been in this house for over 3 years and we STILL get mail for previous owners...yes...plural!
There apparently were a few different residents in the house in the years before we moved in. We actually get more mail for the residents before the last one more than we do for the last occupant!
We've complained to the Post office, the postmaster general at the post office, and even put a note on the inside of our mailbox. No luck, they only sort by address, not by name. So if it looks like "real" mail, I put it back in the mailbox with "no longer at this address" written on it. Otherwise we just toss it.

tracie1758 (468) | 12 months ago | Were getting important things for these people. They have to be missing them. We already started getting their W2's. Shouldn't they be concerned about getting them? I never thought about writing on them and throwing them back in the mail box I always just make the trip to the post office. Thanks for the tip!

3. kareng (3592) | 12 months ago | I get mail for other addresses on my street and even mail for other streets! It is at least once a week. I swear, we need a new mail carrier if she/he can't sort mail any better than that! Makes you wonder how much of your mail that you never get! I have had bills missing before and with service like this there is no wonder!

| 4. hahaha9311 (39) | 12 months ago | One time we had some parcels with baby clothes delivered to our house, the post code was no where near us and the package was about 90 miles away from where it should of been. It had absolutely non of our house details what so ever on it:S. We get mail for a house round the corner, our house is number 2 there flat is 2a so thats ever so slightly acceptable, but it still annoys me to think that my mail could end up at there house and they might not at all feel the same way and just rip it up and throw it away. We sometimes send it back with(in massive writing) "NOT KNOWN AT THIS ADDRESS" on it and that nomally stops the mis led mail arriving for a week or two.

5. SamQuinn (1042) | 12 months ago | The thing that bothered me was when I kept getting mail for my ex-husband at homes where he never lived. We got divorced in 1986, and his mail has continued to follow me through 3 different houses. I've now moved to a different state; with any luck, I'll stop getting it now! I tried for years marking it "not at this address", "return to sender", "deceased" -- anything I could think of it to get it to stop. Now I just toss it (it was never anything important -- credit card offers, etc.) -- he lives overseas and I do not want him to know where I live. But I agree --SURELY after 20 years the post office could get the message he doesn't live with me any more. SIGH.

8. Rozie37 (7158) | 12 months ago | I usually give it back to the mailman. I put return to sender on there and that does it. You never know what could have happened to prevent them from putting in a change of address. That does not bug me as much as getting someone's mail that live close to me. I do not mind giving it to them, but it makes me wonder where some of my mail may be going. To me, that is a nerve wrecking thought.

9. CRIVAS (1181) | 12 months ago | I know what you mean. My husband and I have been living in our house for over 5 years now and we still get the wrong mail delivered to our house. I have done the kind thing and wrote:No longer lives at this address please stop sending mail. It doesn't work, we still recieve the same mail from the same companies looking for someone who hasn't lived here for I don't know how long. I think that it should go on record right away so that I don't have to keep sending back the mail.

10. sunshinelady (6113) | 12 months ago | For a long time after we moved into the house we got regular previous tenents mail. I always returned it to the post office so they could send it where it needs to be sent. To me that just showed the people didn't bother to fill out a change of address form. I am like you. How hard is it to fill out a change of address form. And it doesn't take that long either. I go to the post office almost everyday so I never made a special trip to take the mail back to the post office. I had a place where I put the mail and then when I went to the post office I took that pile with me and gave it to the post master.
