crying in the kitchen!

well theres one thing you can do to stop you from crying......
wrings it with water of put it in a water for about a minute before you slice it.....

I hear that if you keep your mouth closed while you're chopping an onion you'll be less likely to cry. This sometimes works for me. In truth, I don't have a whole lot of trouble with onions, although I use them a lot in my cooking. A bag of onions I bought a couple of weeks ago, was very strong and no matter what I did my eyes were messed up when I was using them!

This seems to help me. First I try to stay as far away from the onion as possible and then only breath through my mouth and not my nose while cutting up the onion. Give it a try.

hye bombshell. i've this problem too and do you know how i overcome it? by wearing sunglasses! hehehe. works all the time.

One thing I do is only cut one end off of the onion cut it when it has the skin on or take the skin off and run it inder cold water for a min before chopping it..that helps....littleowl

i didn't read all your replies so maybe you already been told .. but if you peel your onion underwater it will not hurt your eyes .. and i don't mean dive into a pool or the sea .. i mean fill the sink and peel under the water:)

In the past I even tried to wear glasses when I was cutting the onions. But I was still tearful:) I have heard people said that put the onions into the freezer and then cut it after that will be helpful. Or you can cut the onions in the water so that you will not cry any more.

You might have already read this but there are 2 ways to avoid getting teary eyed while chopping onions. Keep the onion cold and breath with your mouth, not your nose.

indian tip for not crying is,we should dip onions in water for 10-15 minutes in water,before cutting them. try this.

onion is very very needed in the kitchen it adds up to the flavor of the dish so dont lose it in your everyday recipe. well, when i cook, i wash my hands before cutting the onion and i dont inhale its odor, i think thats what makes us cry. then after cutting i would directly wash again my hands to wash off the odor away. but it still depends on you of what technique you will use as not to make you cry.
