Do you think digital camera has made us careless while shooting? |
|
When I had an ordinary camera, where every shot mattered, I used to be very diligent and careful, calculating the shots and frames and sometimes even working before the shoot. But now with the digital cam, I hardly bother about the perfection and hardly pre meditate. I shoot random and then edit among the horde that I have captured .
Sometimes it makes me wonder, has digital camera made photography easier or we have become carefree, just more careless and less perfect while filming?

The advent of digital camera's has definitely made photography easier, no question! Whether or not it is a bad thing, I'm not really sure. personally I think no, but there is still a lot to be said for physical photo's in my opinion and it would be a shame for this format to disappear entirely. It's just not the same thing looking at complete albums on a PC!

mimpi1911 (8025) | 11 months ago | I think, digital photography is a great invention and no way I am anti. As a matter of fact, my nieces are getting conversant at a young age about the art of photography which I guess would not be the case otherwise. Its a great fun to get the result the moment they say cheese. I am sure with proper guidance they can learn the intricacies of it all. Physical photo is a beautiful thing and I feel real photographers still prefer that.
But my point is, I think the flexibility in a digital camera should not be misused and we must lose our fine touch while shooting. We are the fast paced generation today and this probably has clicked with the digi cam as well. The kids specially should know the value of shots, value of stuffs in life.

2. shakadoodoo (583) | 11 months ago | I feel what you are saying - I think what you thinking will make you better at your craft because it is on you mind - Since I do graphic art - I do not worry about a perfect image because photoshop will make it perfect for me. I will sometimess use 4 or 5 photos to make one pic anyway - But as a photographer - you are looking for the perfect image. Seems like the better the photo is - them more you could do with it. It's good your thinking like that. But to answer your question - It has made us more careless - at least I have. I just hole down the button and pick which one I want later - no reason for everyone to say "CHEESE"!

If anything they have given us the opportunity to practice, knowing we can learn from our mistakes and then erace them. Nothing I hated more than taking pictures with my 35mm only to discover there was a problem with the film, and I lost them all. With digital cameras we know right away what is going to happen, and I think it's just great!

mimpi1911 (8025) | 11 months ago | I really appreciate. Its good to know that you still take care before shots which most like me do not. They shoot randomly and later delete and retain the best among the mediocres. I am pro digital camera and I think it has given us a great opportunity to be conversant with the art of photography. I only wish that we can improve on it.
Thanks.

4. alokn99 (2898) | 11 months ago | Not only careless, in some ways the thrill of shooting with a non digital camera, waiting to see how the snap has developed too is lost. To add to it the caefullness was also there in terms of the cost of the roll and the developing cost and the times aspect of it. So I atleast tended to be very careful while clicking away. With the digital camera it's click, click and then see it, Choose, edit on the computer and hardly every printed.

mimpi1911 (8025) | 11 months ago | It's good that you mentioned the anticipation of getting to see those positives! I still remember, how great fun it used to be to get the developed rolls! Full of apprehensions and anticipations and reliving the moments when we all are made to stand to give fake smiles. Awwwwh...Silly but sweet!
| |
|
|
alokn99 (2898) | 11 months ago | Silly smiles, all decked up waiting patiently while the person gets every thing set and clicks away. Then pester them to see the snaps. Dissapointed long faces when they did not come too well. Come to think of it not only were we so careful while taking the shots, we really valued them, preserved them and even today they bring about a sense of nostalgia. While the digital camera is great in terms of doing things super speed and so on, a natural untouched shot is still the best. It's difficult to very sure about the orginality of some shots today thanks to the touch up and changes done on the computer later.

|
mimpi1911 (8025) | 11 months ago | That reminds me, I still weep on the parting with some black and white photos of family. It feels nostalgic and so attached still! Don't you feel that today's abundance, getting the shots easy and then seen instantaneously somehow dilutes the love of the art. Having said this, contemporary and modern is something which gets recognition later when it gets old.

|
|
alokn99 (2898) | 11 months ago | Yes, its exactly the way i feel about the old shots especially the black and white ones. I have some of my mom and know what you mean about the emotion behind them.
Art is appreciated more when we know the effort behind it like in the case of the good old fashioned photography. It's like furniture making, embroidery,stitching....When we know the effort and the care taken behind the preparation, its value is enhanced.

mimpi1911 (8025) | 11 months ago | That's another point you have raised. We humans have a tendency to abuse anything and everything which is easily available, abundant and we can afford to. And this probably is the reason we are little careless about the same.

mimpi1911 (8025) | 11 months ago | I agree totally. while digital camera is a boon but it certainly has made us little careless. I cannot single out a picture from 15-20 shots! Bottomline being i did not click them with proper care! That's so sad at the end of the day. Another aspect that scares me is the fact that the kids today are operating this without any care and the instant thing is like 2 minutes noodles! Most kids today do not care about the nuances, intricacies and love the art!

7. ellie333 (6792) | 11 months ago | Hi Mimipi, Yes I do think it has made us more careless, we can just clik away and delete any that we don't like where as with film camera we never knew what the result was going to be until processed and we had to pay for the mistakes so we did in fact take extra care. Huggles. Ellie:D

8. SuzyQ12 (1893) | 11 months ago | I love my digital camera. I take endless pictures of my boys, my friends. I take pictures of most anything. I think we are more carefree with pictures. We can take every how many we want, until we get it right. As long as the batteries don't run out we can shoot pictures till our hearts content.

10. dpk262006 (8822) | 11 months ago | Digital Camera is a boon for people like us who are amateur photographers. You are right up to an extent that when we had simple camera, which would run with a camera roll, we would be more careful and selective, while taking photographs, because we knew that we had limitations and we cannot take more than 36 photographs in a normal film roll. Digital camera gives us the liberty to take numerous photographs at a time. However, whenever I use my digital camera for an outdoor shoot I use it as I would use my ordinary camera. I just do not go on clicking photographs randomly or mindlessly. I view all the angles and apply the zoom effect to take the best picture. Perfection of capturing a picture depends upon the fact how experienced is the person who is clicking the pictures. If any of the photographs does not come out good, I have the freedom to check it there and then itself, after checking it, I immediately 'delete' it at the very moment, instead of doing it later. I enjoy working with digital camera, because it has many functions, which the normal camera does not have. I do not use it carelessly because it is 'digital camera' with wide capacity of taking photographs. Some samples of photographs clicked by me are available on my profile. However, I have seen kids/children (even my own) clicking photos randomly, knowing that the same could be edited or deleted later on.

mimpi1911 (8025) | 9 months ago | Digital camera is certainly a boon and I am no way trying to negate that. However, I sometimes feel that it has made me little careless. Now I can choose from hordes of shots. Even though its a bliss to choose the best but the real photographs are taken with utmost care and sincerity. Coming to think about the extra endeavour and effort makes it very close to heart.
Thanks.

Keep it up!
