If faith is so important, then why did Jesus appear before his disciples? |
|
Now,we say that faith is most important when it comes to religion. We have no proof that Jesus rose up from the grave or that he is God incarnate, but we are supposed to have faith. If proof was given to us, then faith is impossible and God wants faith from us.
But then why did the resurrected Jesus appear before his disciples? He could have told them he would not apear before them after his resurection because faith is very important. Similarly, why did he reveal to Saul?
If the disciples of Jesus do not need faith, then why should you and I?

1hopefulman (1346) | 10 months ago | Cornelius Tacitus, a respected first-century Roman historian, wrote: “The name [Christian] is derived from Christ, whom the procurator Pontius Pilate had executed in the reign of Tiberius.” Suetonius and Pliny the Younger, other Roman writers of the time, also referred to Christ. In addition, Flavius Josephus, a first-century Jewish historian, wrote of James, whom he identified as “the brother of Jesus, who was called Christ.”
The New Encyclopædia Britannica thus concludes: “These independent accounts prove that in ancient times even the opponents of Christianity never doubted the historicity of Jesus, which was disputed for the first time and on inadequate grounds at the end of the 18th, during the 19th, and at the beginning of the 20th centuries.”
Is there proof or is there no proof? You decide!

headhunter525 (1445) | 10 months ago | Archaelogists cannot find the bones of Julius Caesar. What about Socrates? May be they are all made up or may be there are true indeed. How do one decide? Why do historians not dispute about Socrates though none has seen his bone or his writings? Why can't we say that entire thing was Greek conspiracy? Or why can't we say that Julius Caesar was Roman conspiracy? Probably we need to read historical methodology.

barehugs (3856) | 10 months ago | There were no writings chronicling Jesus or his teachings during His lifetime in Palestine. Once Christian Religion took root there were many wannabe's jumping on the band-wagon, hoping to make a name for themselves. Cornelius Tactitus who lived in the first century, and Flavious Josephus who leaped in there also, (well after the lifetime of Jesus.) Josephus identified James, and called him "the Brother of Jesus who was called the Christ," thereby insuring his own name in history forever. Who cares about the bones of Julius Caesar or Socrates? Both these men are chronicled in their own lifetimes, so there is not the slightest doubt of their existence. The life of Jesus in Palestine, on the other hand, is a Christian Conspiracy! Of this there is No Doubt!

Bible says whosoever seeks God truly with all their hearts they'll find him, that he promise to each one of us.Same as with faith if we really seek and meditate on his word,we can develop our faith.

8. eichs1 (1306) | 10 months ago | Do you think Jesus appeared after he rose from the dead because the disciples' have no faith? No, you are wrong. The disciples were gathered in that room because they already have faith that Jesus will do just as what he said. No one of them have ever witnessed seeing someone risen from the dead and yet they were there awaiting, hanging on to Jesus' words. That is faith in action.
As for Saul, it is just a blinding light and a voice that he heard. The voice commanded Saul to go to a certain place and he obeyed - again, an act of faith. Saul could have chosen to ignore the voice and claim that the bright sun light have blinded him but he believed that the voice and the light is Jesus, the Christ.
From the above mentioned happenings, you will see how that faith was their first even before the events took place. That's how important faith is. Anyway, as @1hopefulman has explained, Jesus' appearance after resurrection is but to teach the disciples more and aflame the faith that they already have.

trinidadvelasco (9110) | 10 months ago | i agree with everything that you have said here, eichs. it is true that the faith in all the disciples were already there right from the start. this is evidenced by their acts of following Jesus Christ when they were simply called to follow Him the very first time that they met. without question, the first two apostles called to follow Christ, just simply followed without question, leaving their catch and all their fishing equipment behind.
faith is really something that is in the heart of someone who truly believes in God. they have no questions in their heart when they are told that such is God's word. now, God's word are all to be found in one book collection, the bible. let us heed God's word, then. let us all study the bible by heart.

9. trinidadvelasco (9110) | 10 months ago | unto those who had seen the grave that Jesus Christ was buried in, there was proof that He resurrected. His body was no longer there in the early hours of the following morning after the burial. it was opened, the stone was removed from the mouth of the grave and there was no body in there at all.
then, those who went there saw an angel who informed them of what has happened.
unto those who had seen the risen Jesus Christ, there was proof that indeed He had risen from the dead. unto those who had seen Him went up to the heavens above, there was proof that He was really off to be reunited with the Father in heaven.
but Jesus Christ was seen only by a few. there are millions and billions more who haven't. unto those who have never had the personal encounter with the Lord, it takes unmoving faith in order to believe that all of these have happened.

10. Arkie69 (1098) | 10 months ago | There is two kinds of faith. There is blind faith and then there is true faith. Blind faith is based on whey you have been told and true faith is based on absolute fact. Blind faith will fail you right when you need it most and true faith will not. If you have seen God do something then you have true faith that he can do it again. For the Apostles to be able to do what they had to their faith had to be based on fact, not what they were told. Jesus gave them the facts they needed. Today most people are only being told and they know very little as absolute fact. Blind faith is all they have.
