Does America owe Great Britain a huge apology for Obama's ...??? |
| |
| To all Americans and our global brethren abroad, Do you think that America owes Great Britain an apology? I believe that every American should be embarrassed by Obama's first reception of a foreign dignitary. Allow me explain ... As shocking as it is to believe; Obama 'dissed' the British Prime Minister, and the People of Great Britain, one of our most cherished allies -- not once, not twice, but three times -- all in a matter of a three weeks! First, Obama returned the Winston Churchill bust that was loaned to GW Bush, in stewardship for the American People (read about the specifics below). Then, Obama failed to come clean about his boneheaded 'plan' to not extend to Prime Minister Brown the traditional (full dress) joint press conference in the East Room. Then, the third 'dis' showed Obama to be the oaf that he really is: Obama ponied up a caddish, cheezy gift that probably could have been purchased from any "KMart" to P.M. Brown's very classy, very thoughtful, very traditionally respectful gifts. My goodness, shouldn't every official dignitary of every global ally be treated with traditional respect and honors? How would the people of France, Germany, Sweden, Japan, or the Phillipines react if the US President snubbed their heads of state? ___________________________________________________________________________________ "Mr Brown's gifts included an ornamental desk pen holder made from the oak timbers of Victorian anti-slaver HMS Gannet, once named HMS President. Mr Obama was so delighted he has already put it in pride of place in the Oval Office on the Resolute desk which was carved from timbers of Gannet's sister ship, HMS Resolute. Another treasure given to the U.S. President was the framed commission for HMS Resolute, a vessel that came to symbolise Anglo-US peace when it was saved from ice packs by Americans and given to Queen Victoria. Finally, Mr Brown gave a first edition set of the seven-volume classic biography of Churchill by Sir Martin Gilbert." http://www.ask.com/bar?q=... So Obama thought it appropriate to give the Prime Minister of our most valued ally a collection of DVDs of 25 classic American films. D'oh, not even Blueray! Finally, to our very cherished British allies and friends across the pond, please don't think as low of all Americans as you are most surely feeling about Obama right now. Obama's pathetic, oafish gaff has not gone unnoticed. While it is, for the most part, being ignored by the main stream media (which means that once again the mainstream media is ignoring the foreign press, as this story is all over the British media), that big, 'ol meanie Rush Limbaugh has been chiding Obama's inexperience and total lack of dignity in this regard over the airwaves. Which of course means that at least twenty(+) million Americans are hanging our heads in shame over Obama's inexcusable behavior toward Britain. We humbly ask that you accept our most sincere apology. Please remember that more Americans didn't vote for Obama than did (40% of all Americans didn't vote in November, and among the 60% who did, nearly 50% of that 60% voted against Obama). From Limbaugh's website -- his commentary about and background material relating to this International blunder: • This Is London: Obama's Blockbuster Gift for Brown: 25 Classic Films • American Thinker: Obama Disses Brit PM • Reuters: Obama Plans to Boost Security Aid to Abbas's Forces • UKT: Was 'Lady Macbeth' Behind Barack Obama's Snub of Gordon Brown? http://www.ask.com/bar?q=...% Below are the details about the Churchill bust for anyone who would like to read the specifics: "Sunday, February 15, 2009 Obama disses the British Telegraph reported A bust of the former prime minister once voted the greatest Briton in history, which was loaned to George W Bush from the Government's art collection after the September 11 attacks, has now been formally handed back. The bronze by Sir Jacob Epstein, worth hundreds of thousands of pounds if it were ever sold on the open market, enjoyed pride of place in the Oval Office during President Bush's tenure. But when British officials offered to let Mr Obama to hang onto the bust for a further four years, the White House said: "Thanks, but no thanks." http://www.ask.com/bar?q=... 7CHow+to+Hold+a+Press+Conference&ab=0&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.rushlimbaugh.com%2Fho... "Also, the first couples are not meeting together. Normally they have lunch, but Michelle Obama's entertaining Gordon Brown's wife in the crayon room in the White House or wherever they're doing it, but there's no social event planned at all, and the UK daily headline: "'Downing Street Left Embarrassed after President Obama Scales Down First Meeting with Brown.' -- Downing Street was left scrambling to avoid a diplomatic embarrassment today after the White House ruled out a formal press conference to mark Gordon Brown's first formal meeting with Barack Obama. Officials denied the Prime Minister was being snubbed after it emerged that the new president would not make himself available for the traditional joint appearance before the White House media." They did bring cameras in the Oval Office for a while, which they always do. "Mr Brown's aides are trying to make the best of what is a distinctly low key visit compared to the family hospitality lavished on Tony Blair by George Bush when they met for the first time." ____________________________________________________________________________________ What say you? Do Michelle and Barack Obama need to enroll in an Emily Post etiquette course? Criminies, this stuff matters a great deal in the world in International Relations! | | | | | |

| | Hi Lady! I can't believe this - is this the way we are winning over the European countries? Wasn't the huge outcry that the Iraq war was done by President Bush without the approval of the European community and their leaders? So this is how we make friends and influence people? By being so arrogant that we completely ignore them? Maybe this is how things are done in Illinois? | | | | | | |

And now, all of America is positioned to have to apologize for his lack of propriety. I see below that Michelle committed the same kind of inexcusably tacky snub with the exchange of gifts for the children. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm really beginning to miss having 'grown ups' in the White House. Can you imagine Laura Bush snubbing a foreign dignitary???

| | Ladyluna, it is unbelievable. I mean, here is someone many Americans...not myself, however...voted for because he was...to sum it up in a few short words...to them, an icon of respectability. He was everything, or so they thought, a politician wasn't. I remember one thing that people, who didn't like Bush, accused him of being, was arrogant. And, to pull this kind of stunt in exchanging gifts with the British PM puts Bush's arrogance to shame. And, all this time Obama has been harping about how he wants to improve America's appearance to the rest of the world. I guess he figured, since we were already in pretty good standing with the Brits, that he might as well destroy that relationship just like he's destroying the economy and everything else he touches. | | | |

| | wow. uh....wow...I am in shock. But if you think about it it sets the tone for his admin. He is getting all kind of things from us the american people (namely our money to spend how he pleases and waste and constitutional rights) and all he is going to give us in return is huge debt and a tax break that gets us around $16.00 a paycheck. Wow talk about an unfair trade. But I will give Obama a nod for constitancy....he takes as much as he can get and gives little back to the american people... and with foreign heads of government. He treats us all the same. I am sorry Great Britain. You are a good friend to this country and you deserved to be treated better than that. Please do not think all of us are as bad as this president (or our last one). Man I thought I was done with apolozing for our president. I felt I had to say I am sorry about Bush.....now less than two months in to Obama I am already apologizing for him...it is going to be a long long four years. | | | | | | |

| | I do not usually do this but after looking into it further i wanted to add something. With the slight to Mr. Brown, Mrs. Brown and the Brown children, not to mention to hte people of England in general....this has got to be on purpose and calculated. THe Obama's are sending out a message that his administation is not going to be a close ally of England. I am not saying he does not want to be an friend to England...just not as close of a friend as they have been in the past. My questions is why? Why is Obama distancing himself from Great Britain? What purpose will it serve him? Anyone know if he has given lavish gifts to other countries? It would be useful to know who he is chummy up to and who he is distancing himself from. | | | |

| | Wow, what an utter and total embarrassment. Let me add this: Mrs. 0bama accepted Mrs. Brown's costly and well thought-out gifts for the Obama children ( Top Shop dresses with matching necklaces, and a selection of British-authored books). Mrs. 0bama's gift for the Brown children: $15 Marine One playsets from the White House gift shop. Oh, and the return of the bust... well Obama told them that there was no space for that in the Oval Office. Couldn't have found another spot for it somewhere in the White House or National Library.... somewhere? Nope. But strangely enough, he did find room in the oval office for a wooden statue of a hand holding an egg that's called 'The Magic Egg of Power'. He got that in Kenya while visiting his cousin Raila Odinga, | | | | | | |

| | Um let me get this straight....Mrs. Brown got the girls nice clothes and age appropriate books and all the brown children got were white house gift shop toys? Wow. This has to be on purpose. The Obama's are sending a message that during their admin America and England will not have as close of a relationship as they have had in the past. Which is bad because they have been a good ally to us. | | | |

But just know that many of us here are embarrassed by it and think it demonstrated an utter lack of class, protocall and decorum and that we, the american people, the ones really in charge, the REAL heads of state, wish to express our gratitude and sincere friendship to your country and it's people. If I could afford more appropriate tokens of such sentiments, know they would already on their way to you. This is not how we do business here and I am going to personaly write the whitehouse and DEMAND he apologize to your country.

I don't wish to assume that you know or don't know -- however; in order to track your responses with ease, and in order to be in the running for a "Best Response" recognition, you need to post a separate, individual response, in addition to any interaction you elect to post in reaction to other posts. I do hope that I'm not being redundant, I just remember how frustrating it was to try to track responses to responses before I figured out that the "Discussions I Have Responded To" functionality only works for individual responses. Now to your specific point: Excellent point! Just today there were anti-war protesters out on a street corner in town. One was carrying a flag with an image of GW Bush with a circle and a strike through, depicting the statement No Bush. D'oh! Didn't anyone tell that guy that GW is no longer the President???
