It would seem that when we peel away the expensive suits, "Mr. Kool", "Mr. Urbane", "Mr. Suave & Debonair" is really "Mr. Tacky". And now, all of America is positioned to have to apologize for his lack of propriety.

I see below that Michelle committed the same kind of inexcusably tacky snub with the exchange of gifts for the children.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm really beginning to miss having 'grown ups' in the White House. Can you imagine Laura Bush snubbing a foreign dignitary???

Unbelievable, isn't it?

Ladyluna, it is unbelievable. I mean, here is someone many Americans...not myself, however...voted for because he was...to sum it up in a few short words...to them, an icon of respectability. He was everything, or so they thought, a politician wasn't. I remember one thing that people, who didn't like Bush, accused him of being, was arrogant. And, to pull this kind of stunt in exchanging gifts with the British PM puts Bush's arrogance to shame. And, all this time Obama has been harping about how he wants to improve America's appearance to the rest of the world. I guess he figured, since we were already in pretty good standing with the Brits, that he might as well destroy that relationship just like he's destroying the economy and everything else he touches.

Yeah, I guess this is (maybe) one way to improve our international reputation. Although, I've gotta' say that dis'sing our valued allies is pretty low on my "To Do" list.

Yeah, he is alienating perhaps the only country in the world who isn't already pissed at us, but has intentions of not only playing nice with Iran but to speak with he TALIBAN as well! We all know how well that worked out when Carter tried diplomacy with fanatics...

I cannot recall a time in our nations history where our 'head of state' acted with so little propriety. And to think, we have placed our nation's trust in this guy's ability to negotiate with people like Vladimir Putin, and Mahmoud Ajmadineejad, when he doesn't even have a rudimentary understanding of art of diplomacy! I do not usually do this but after looking into it further i wanted to add something.


With the slight to Mr. Brown, Mrs. Brown and the Brown children, not to mention to hte people of England in general....this has got to be on purpose and calculated. THe Obama's are sending out a message that his administation is not going to be a close ally of England. I am not saying he does not want to be an friend to England...just not as close of a friend as they have been in the past. My questions is why? Why is Obama distancing himself from Great Britain? What purpose will it serve him?

Anyone know if he has given lavish gifts to other countries? It would be useful to know who he is chummy up to and who he is distancing himself from.

You might be on to something. This definitely seems to be an attempt to put Britain in its place... but if they snub Britain, they snub part of the EU,... maybe it's all part of the new world order plan...

Could also be that Obama hasn't yet learned to answer that 'three a.m. phone call', lol.

As to presents to other countries... he went to visit Canada and should have presented something... but I can't find what.

Wow. This has to be on purpose. The Obama's are sending a message that during their admin America and England will not have as close of a relationship as they have had in the past. Which is bad because they have been a good ally to us.

Lil, what I am HOPING is that what they are trying to say is that they are trying to be frugal in tight times (though his economic policies sceam otherwise) and exercize a scale back on lavishness........

Okay, I'm not sure he got it as a gift from Odinga. But he got it while he was there. Could have bought it for all I know. I'm just more amazed that he couldn't find a spot anywhere for that bust but stuff like that still fits perfectly fine. Maybe he needed more space for all his teleprompters, lol;)

Yes, it is embarrassing for us. I apologize for the length of the post. Though to be sure, without sufficient corroboration Obama's adoring fans would surely have contested the facts. Please remember that the American mainstream media has really not covered these incidences.

I think though that apology should come from Mr. and Mrs Obama themselves and I didn't vote for him anyways. But just know that many of us here are embarrassed by it and think it demonstrated an utter lack of class, protocall and decorum and that we, the american people, the ones really in charge, the REAL heads of state, wish to express our gratitude and sincere friendship to your country and it's people. If I could afford more appropriate tokens of such sentiments, know they would already on their way to you. This is not how we do business here and I am going to personaly write the whitehouse and DEMAND he apologize to your country.

Excellent point! Just today there were anti-war protesters out on a street corner in town. One was carrying a flag with an image of GW Bush with a circle and a strike through, depicting the statement No Bush. D'oh! Didn't anyone tell that guy that GW is no longer the President??? And that Obama is thus far pursuing the same military strategy as Bush did??? It makes me wonder -- how long will they continue to blame Bush while granting Obama a free pass?
