Yesterday I wanted to take my daughter to a movie. It had been AGES since we went. It was like her last spring break treat. she wanted to see MONSTERS vs ALIENS. We had a tight time line to stick to. the regular show was sold out, so we elected to go to the 3-d show. I asked for 2 tickets, and gave the girl my card. $21.00 and change. I was shocked. Not even a kid price on the show. It was amazing the effects, but still.I couldn't believe it. with the snack I promised her, our day cost $30. Ever been surprised by the cost of something like a movie, or any thing else?

And the industry wonders why people are burning DVD's and pirating the movies. You took your daughter out to a movie and it cost 30 bucks, now imagine a family of four. And then to buy it on DVD when it comes out is another 30-40 dollars.

My husband does not consider the price of things, if it is something he wants to do, he will do it regardless of what it costs. Neither of us are working, but he will tell our Godchildren (2 of them) that he is going to take them to the movies. That is when he gets the raised eyebrow look from me. We just can not afford it. The money spent on a movie for three, can cover my groceries for a week. Hope the movie was worth it

I live with someone like that too! I have started to look around and see what is the cheepest, sometimes a movie at a later showing is cheep, even a different movie theater is cheeper than the others. Look around there are lot of movies to chose from.

I must say that my girls have almost never been to a theater to see a new movie as we can't afford it. I have taken them to the free movies that the theatre has in the summer time but with the popcorn and drink, it still costs us about $10. However, it seems justified for some reason as it would cost us that if we were paying for tickets. Those movies are usually at least a year old and normally we have seen them on DVD. I will take them to the $1.50 movie place that is about 25 miles from us occasionally if we happen to be going that way for something. It is a rare occasion though and they are never new movies. We are usually seeing movies when they come out at the video store or at the red box at McDonalds as they cost $1.00 to rent. It is sad that a family can't afford to go out and do anything fun like a movie, bowling, miniature golf, etc. I think that we should ask for a family fun relief fund so that we can enjoy some of the little things in life that all the big bankers would not consider doing, but they would jet off on some Vegas vacation.

Wow... It's everywhere though. My friends went to see the same movie this weekend and had to pay a "surcharge" to get the 3-d glasses. They are pricing themselves out of the industry. Soon theaters will be a thing of the past like drive-in movies. Everyone gets it on cable or like me, will wait until its on TV months later. Very expensive to go anywhere these days.

Hi, ersmommy1! Yes, the cost of things has cost me many of times! That is why I am so funny about spending any money that I get my hands onto! The way the prices for things is crazy! I am glad that you got to spend some time with your daughter! I do wished that the taxes and prices would go down some! It really would help us all out!

Yes sometimes you have to think is it worth it?I have not been to a movie theater in a while but I do not mind about that. Somethings are just better to be seen on the big screen, think of how happy your daughter was, it will be something she will remember for a while now and I have a feelings that she will go back to school telling all about the movie. I have noticed that some theaters have a summer special or Sunday movies, these are movies that are just for kids. Look around to see if any are offered in your area!

OMG! That is way to steep..for a few movie tickets..before we know it they will be $25 dollars just to see a movie. It is a shame they are going up so high before long people will just stop going to watch them it will be cheaper just to go rent a movie. At that price it will definitely slow the dating scene down a bit because kids don't have that kind of money to spend on one date just think $30 or more for the movie,Gas, and if they go to eat afterwards it will be costly close to a $100 just to take a girl out..That would be like $400 a month if they do it every weekend..Who has that kind of money these days with the economy the way it is? Well, there is another past time that will end soon..

Oh I know, ersmommy! Movie prices have sure gone up! It makes it almost unaffordable for families to opt for this as an activity. It used to be that I could take the kids to the movies, get them popcorn and drink and maybe go out for an actual meal afterwards. We always had a blast doing it. Now, I can't justify spending THAT much money. So, we have to be more selective. It's either the movie and maybe popcorn or going out to eat but not both. The closest movie theater to our house still has one "reduced price" day but it's like a Tuesday, I believe, which makes it hard to manage with the girls' school schedules. I end up giving them money to see movies with their friends more often than we ever go together anymore :(

We have a theater where the prices are $6...we get there maybe twice a year. We also have one with the older movies, where it is $2 to go. About twice a year for us there too. Regular price...almost never. Ok..when the new Harry Potter movies come out.

That is very expensive, it seems. We have the same problem when we go bowling. Even doing something like that is just outragious.

Wow, that's ridiculous! I don't think it's quite that much in my area at the theater complex that runs the newest movies first but I know I usually go to the afternoon the rare times I go to the theater because it's a few bucks cheaper than in the evening. There's a one-screen theater in my hometown where they only charge $3.00! It takes a few weeks for the new releases to play there but it's worth the wait. I take it you didn't get any popcorn or anything for yourself. That usually costs as much or more than the ticket. Annie

With the way prices on things have been going up and up lately nothing really surprises me anymore. $10 for a kid to get into the movies is too much for me though. I would have chosen a regular movie or decided to go to a movie later.

Yea movie prices are getting outrageous. I haven't gone to a movie in a while, but the last time I went it was $8.50 each for an afternoon movie. Then throw another $15 for snacks and drinks for us (and one of us snuck in some candy ), that was one expensive afternoon. Lately what has surprising me the most is how much going out to our favorite restaurant is. It seems everytime we go they raise the prices. My ultimate shocker is the price of a box of cereal at the grocery. More than $4? Come on.
