| | I dont get the usa or the uk or any country saying to another country you cant have x, y and z. Countries are independant of each other and thats the way it should be, when countries start medling in other countries affairs wars start. Now I aint saying nukes are right or wrong unfortunatly they are a fact of life and a terrible fact of life, but what right has any country to say to another country what it can and cant have or do, its like saying I an a democracy but you can do this lol. Or saying to your kids you cant have a chocolate easter egg, then you eating one in front of them. Obviously abit more serious than a easter egg but hope you get my point. | | | | | | |

| | Nuclear weapons are a whole other ballpark. One nuclear weapon is capable of doing horrendous damage to people, infrastructure, and has lasting environmental damage. I don't care about stable nations like France or the UK having nuclear weapons, but when states that sponsor terrorism and have leaders like Iran and North Korea start carrying these weapons, we are not only in danger of them using the weapons, but of them sharing these weapons with terrorists. When that happens it's already too late. | | | |

| | "Or saying to your kids you cant have a chocolate easter egg, then you eating one in front of them." It's much more like a parent having a machine gun and telling his kids they can't have one. Your "eating one in front of them" analogy doesn't work since we aren't actively using nuclear weapons and haven't used them in over 60 years. | | | |

| | I agree with Taskr, Benny. Not all nations are responsible enough to play with the Big Toys and shouldn't be allowed to have them because they present a danger to others. As a global community, every nation has the right to speak out against and to take action against a serious potential threat such as a nuclear weapon in the hands of an irresponsible government or one that supports terrorism. For Japan to take the steps it has in positioning it's warships and activating it's missile defense system, they definitely perceive the threat from North Korea to be real and serious. | | | |

| | So let me get this straight, it's terrible the madman living next to you to have a gun, but should be ok for the madman who runs a nation to have nukes... especially one who has promised to use them against another nation. Is that really how you think? | | | |

| | yeah but we still dont have the right to meddle in other nations affairs, either all nations get rid of nukes or we just have to hope that nothing comes from them. I think nukes are wrong, but again what right do we have, to affect another sovereign state, look at the iraq weapons of mass destruction etc etc they wanted saddam out, tho few years back we were selling weapons to him. Pot calling kettle there me thinks. | | | |

| | They are free to develope nukes and other countries are free to provide consequences if they do. What you're saying is, N. Korea should be able to do what they want, but no other country can. | | | |

| | all countries should be free to do what there sovereign state wants too, I think all countries should be banned from having nukes including britain america etc etc. We live in a democracy yet we tell other countries what to do thats not democratic. I do understand the security implications but all countries need to be dis-armed from nuclear warheads. If we go down the route of dis-arming nuke based weapons then heck yeah I'll be for that most defiantly. As I have said before no countries should have nukes. The americans havent used nukes for 60 years but they hit hiroshima on august 6th and 9th 1945. I am not defending it or getting behind the use of the bomb as I wasnt even born then but all countries need to loose the nuke as we cant tell another country what to do as that will lead to wars take Iraq the coalition tried to tell Iraq what to do with non existant weapons of mass destruction and now the world is a much more dangerous place with attacks from within our own countries. Great discussion by the way defo gets the blood boiling on all sides. | | | |

| | Yes, because of course if the US and the UK would just destroy all our nukes, Pakistan and India would feel the wave of peace over the land and destroy theirs. Arabs and Israelis would walk the streets of Gaza hand in hand while Islamist Extremists would put aside their jihad against The Great Satan forever. We would all sit around the campfire singing Kumbayah, wouldn't we? Well, we might until we got to the "my Lord" part and the people who aren't Christians would be offended and the Christians would be hurt that such a hymn of peace could ever cause offense... And the discontent would spread until your beloved Newcastle Upon Tyne was threatened to the point that you would be forced to call on your local AFOs to Serve & Protect... But I know you would request the AFOs leave their H&K's behind, since you are positive that it's the presence of weaponry that cause all the problems in the first place. ;~D | | | |

| | After a meeting between the President and the Leader of South Korea they said that they agreed on a responce. South Korea issued a stern warning that North Korea should not launch the rocket or there would be very grave conquences. The US followed with a statement that there would be conquences, not as strong as the South Koreans. Will this be the "test" that VP Biden refered to before the election? If so how do you think the President will react? | | | | | | |
spalladino (11857)
|

| | This will be a test, yes, but I believe Japan will be the first to react by shooting the rocket down and the U.S. and South Korea will stand with them while North Korea makes threats. That's why U.S. and South Korean warships have moved into the Sea of Japan to stand ready along with the Japanese warships. A shipment of US made Patriot missiles recently arrived in Japan and their missile defense system has been activated so my money is on Japan. | | | |

| | I think Obama will react by telling the both North Korea and the TARGET of the missile to "show restraint". That worked so well when Russia invaded Georgia after all. | | | |

| | One of the problems in dealing with North Korea, and President Bush recognized this, is that North Korea can cause major damage to South Korea even if we carpet bomb them with in minutes of an attack. Seoul, SK is with in easy artillary range and rocket range of the North Korean Guns. With in seconds of the rocket shoot down they can bombard Seoul with a massive attack that could kill hundreds of thousands or even millions and destroy the city. The North has built tunnels that can deliver thousands of troops per hour to the south for an invasion. Remember the North has one of the larger standing armies in the world. The problems we are having with North Korea is a direct result of the UN Cease Fire. As the South has prospered and grown to one of the top economies in the world (Last I heard they are #11), the North has built up their military and rearmed with newer weapons. The only way to achieve true peace is to have total victory, as with Japan and Germany. Now they are partners with the rest of the world. | | | |
