Getting our house evaluated  |

|  After a four month delay, numerous phone calls, and bugs by our doctor, we are getting our house evaluated to see if it can be made handicapped ready. I know that we need a ramp, but we might also need the door to our bathroom enlarged and will have to know if there is wires on both sides. We will also need hand rails in the bathtub, and a power chair that can go along a 24 inch hall way and also go outside.
I really do not want to move to a senior's apartment nor does my husband even though he acts as if it might be good, but our house is small as it is, and the area where the senior houses are are not where one can get good bargains food wise.
The prices at the grocery stores there are quite high and besides we have our friends here who will help us.

| |  hi suspenseful I work for Workers Compensation here in Germany and we also do have a department doing exactly this, looking for ways to improve life for the handicapped who want to stay in their house and not move to another place. Like providing the handrails and enlarging doors etc. etc.
I am quite sure they will find a way to help you so you can stay in your house and will not have to move

| |  Good for you! I am happy that someone is coming to help. Is this for someone else to help pay for? Think about a shower, instead of a tub. You will love it after it is done. It sounds like a lot of changes, but will make your life so much easier. Good luck with it all.

| | I hope it works. He said if it costs too much we will move, but I do not want to. The trouble is that our hall way is only 24 inches and our bathroom door is 22 inches. I think the builders intended that once you reach a certain age or are handicapped then you move to a plus 55 apartment. That was the feeling in the 1970s when the house was built.
And if we move, I have to throw most of my stuff away, and it is stuff that I want to keep and I am not talking about magazines. | | | |

| |  Oh, much luck with the evaluation!! It would be so much better if you could stay in your home. It doesn't take much to put rails in the bathroom but I can see where the doorways would be a major undertaking.
When my mom fell and broke her pelvis (not the hip, thank God) my nephew came and did the grab bars in the bathroom and an extra rail on the stairway. He also put a railing in the hallway which is pretty as well as very, very useful. Especially those days when I get up so stiff and aching. Rails are great, put them wherever you can!

| |  Good luck to you! I know those things will help you in so many ways if needed.
It is so hard for anyone to really want to leave "home" unless it is just the best choice. You are very fortunate to have friends to help you out also.
As far as groiceries , you might want to see if angelfoodministries has a host church in your area. THey really have some good deals on food and for two , I think you would find it very useful .Hope it all works out well for you.
