It's official, I will have no jobs after June unless something happens.

I just received notice from my boss that after June 27, I will not be working at PetSmart for the dog and cat food company I work for any longer. No hard feelings, they kept me on as long as they could, but sales are really, really down. I also substitute at area schools. They finish here in June. I have 3 1/2 years before I retire. I really would like to make it and not worry off and on like this for the entire 3 1/2 years about paying bills. I know I'm not as bad off as many and not as well off as many, but I need a job for 3 1/2 years that won't be done in a short period of time and isn't seasonal unless I can find two seasonal jobs and they're in different seasons.
So I'm looking again. Seems like I've spent my entire life looking for work. I'm so sick of it!

Reading your posting was like reading my present situation, I just got laid off yesterday from my seasonal job. I also work as a substitute teacher, but they are close for summer. I have about 10 to 12 years before retirement, and I have had the toughest time finding work. I got up this morning, and I am thinking what to do. I just don't see any jobs out there.

Are there any temporary service agencies out there that will send you somewhere while someone goes on vacation for a week or two? Or ones that when factories or warehouses need someone for a day or two, they can call you? Check temporary employment agencies and see what kind of things they have. I repacked nutrition bars before. I sat and answered the phone before. I filed letters for a TV Station. I had my name in at two temporary employment agencies one year. One got me work for a month and then the other one got me work for a month. Usually just going to one doesn't work. Some people register in as many as three. The more skills you have like typing, phone, photocopying, etc. the better.
Also can you find things at rummage sales that people would like to buy? Buying at rummage sales and reselling can help some.
Try http://cash4books.net/index.php?ref=118125
You may have some books you already own that you wouldn't mind selling.

I am so sorry to hear you will soon be out of work. It's so hard not to worry. I haven't found anything online yet that really pays a nice income per month. I won't invest any money to join a program because it's a matter of trust on my part. Wish I could offer you suggestions here but have a blank mind this morning.
Will be thinking about you,

Yes, it does hurt the ego. As a sub, I can't afford this. So they called you back to work? Good for you. Now if I can just find a job.

I hear you, I still haven't found a job and once again I saw a school that is looking for a para-pro, but then I heard that many in house applications have been turned in for this position.
But you never know, maybe there is a way for me to get in and I haven't found it yet, but I pray I do very soon.

I hope you're able to get work soon. Good luck. This economy is difficult. The schools here, people are scrambling to transfer out of positions that have been abolished, into ones where people have retired and the positon is open. Sounds similar to down there. You may want to broaden your scope.

I dont know where you live but I heard walmart in lots of locations are hiring. I think its because they are building more walmart in different areas and expanding. So you may want to look into that. My fiance is. He has been job hunting for around a year and we hope he may have luck at walmart.

Thanks, I'll try, they don't give very many hours here and some positions don't pay much, but something is better than nothing. Also 25 miles in one way so when the cost of gas goes up. . .. But I can try.

Did you consider teaching in a summer camp program? It may be late now but it is still worth a try.

Summer camps are over 100 miles away from me. Many are only 2 to 4 weeks. Most hired the college students in May. Haven't seen much for openings here, mostly specialty certified like swimming instructors with life guard cert. and camp nurses.

Temporary services, mostly. They hire people to replace people when on vacation. More and more people are afraid to take vacations. But many are factory. I usually end up repacking nutritional bars. I used to get office work once in awhile. Taking phone calls. That was nice and easy.
Also buying stuff at rummage sales and reselling online. Like on ebay and some other auction sites.

What sorts of opportunities do exist in your community that would still allow you to write and explore those other things you are interested in? Coffe shops? Book stores? Craft stores? Flower shop? Even a part-time reception/front desk job could get you where you want to be.

I have known that feeling. Right now I consider myself overemployed, but fortunate. I need to see other peoples' lives to keep that in perspective. I hope you can find something that you like and will want to do for more than three and a half years if necessary.

Yeah, I hear you, it's a weird economy. I had three part-time jobs, Census, subbing, and PetSmart, now I'm looking at maybe none or maybe the Temporary Employment Offices will give me too many.
It's the year of the OX, so maybe because I'm a hard working nut, I'll stay employed. I have a few weeks to go and anything can happen.
