Have You Ever Touched A Stingray?

When I saw this question my first response was, "have you?" Well, no I have never ever touched one and I might just for an experience but other than that I hope that I never touch one. It was very brave that your daughter still touched it even after you answered yes. Your comment about how the stingray tickles and also how a stingray killed the Crocodile Hunter reminded me a poem in which it talks about whether there is always some good in evil people or always some evil in good people.

I have not touched a stingray but I've been able to touch snakes, alligators, and sharks. I'm glad your daughter got to touch such a creature--they look so hard and harsh on television or in pictures and she can get those images out of her head now. I think children should touch every animal possible when it is safe to do so, it really expands their world.

I've touched sting rays and bay rays before. They feel all smooth and slimy. xD
I'm pretty sure the rays they keep domesticated have their stingers clipped regularly, like people clip fingernails.

Yes, I did touch a stingray. Two years ago they had stingrays at Brookfield zoo. (It's in the Chicago area). I wondered at first if I even wanted to touch one, but I did. I'm glad so now I can say, yes I did touch a singray. lol

NO, I haven't & really have no dseire to.

Nope they've had a visiting interactive display with them at our local zoo too but we are leary because yes it is what killed Steve Irwin.

I've attached a photo of a stingray I caught in Christmas Bay along the Texas coast. A close look at the tail reveals I haved already removed the stinger (barbed spine) to render it safe. This little guy was fried up with some hushpuppies. Stingray wings are commonly eaten on the gulf coast and called poor mans scallops as we punch chunks from the wings like using a cookie cutter. In the very early summer, the cow nosed rays make their spawning run along the gulf coast and it is not uncommon to be walking in the water and to suddenly be surrounded by a school of happy rays as they feed along the beach.

Steve Irwin was indeed killed by a stingray when the barb entered his chest. It was an unfortunate accident as many people swim with the rays and are never hurt. It was also a great loss as Mr. Irwin was one of the foremost conservationists of our time and made learning about animals fun.

Hi singlemommy, I have never touched a stingray; I'd be keeping my distance from them as much as possible. But I did touch a jellyfish at the ocean near Florida, after my dad said, "Don't touch that jellyfish, it'll sting you." I was 7 years old, and I guess I wanted to see how much it really would sting. Trust me, it stung real bad!

Yea, I've touched a stingray. when we were in jamaica on a a cruise, we did this really cool excursion where we swam with stingrays. It was really awesome. They were everywhere!

I have actually touched a stingray and this was in fact because I was swimming in the ocean and I got stung by one. I didn't know what it was at first because of the excruciating pain at the moment until I got out of the water and had the lifeguard see if I needed any medical care but I have seen one at close-up and they are actually pretty cool creatures. Just haven't gotten off with the right foot with one.
