Online Game Addict... |
|
As some ppl here know, Hubby and I play an online game called EverQuest II. Although it’s a lot of fun and time consuming, we both enjoy it…especially Hubby since he’s pretty much housebound and it’s his way of getting out.
At the same time, we do other things. We both still MyLot, do our mail, I take care of the house, visit my Mom, read, and do quilting. In other words, we still have other interests besides the game.
But what about the true addicts? Ppl that get into an online game and the real world ceases to exist. They stop bathing, sleeping, going to work/school, they lock themselves away with their computers forgetting about the kids, their spouse and family. They only live for the game. A lot of the time they gain massive amounts of weight b/c they are eating and not moving around at all or very little.
In severe cases I’ve read in the news where ppl have not paid attention to their kids and the kids have died falling out a window, starved to death from not being fed or they’ve found new love interests in the game and tossed aside their current relationships.
What makes a person climb in a game and never want to come out? At what point do you or someone else step in to try to stop this self-destructive behavior? Are you addicted to an online game and to what degree?

LittleMel (6484) | 6 months ago | Not sure but I used to play WoW like 6 hrs straight last year that was on top of all the time I spent for my business and house chores I never played online a game like WoW before, so when hubby introduced me to it I just couldn't get enough of it I felt like it was real, a place where I could escape from the stress but after a year I grew tired of it the graphic was awesome but I didn't enjoy playing it anymore the people I met were mostly rude and I thought they were kids, but unfortunately there were adults too play this game and you will know what I mean there were a couple of people I thought they were good but truth came out the very good thing is that I never gave out any personal information aside from that I am canadian so when I left the game completely I don't need to worry too much about receiving spams or dealing with any WoW player I feel sad leaving the good people, but I have tried to hold on and it didn't work

32. coffeeshot (2479) | 6 months ago | That sounds scary. It is a very unhealthy way to be. Pretty much the same as being a drug addict in the way that someone that addicted to games can not function properly. I guess it's hard to know when the time is right for an intervention. As soon as a person stops showering or eating, that's a pretty good indication that something's not right!
It's bad for both mental and physical health. Social skills would also fail.
I've been joking lately that I am addicted to Farm Town on Facebook. I have been spending a fair bit of time on it, but luckily there's only a certain amount that you can do every day.
Just before I decided that I have been spending too much time on it so I made myself get up and clean the house. I put on a load of washing, did the dishes and cleaned my rats' cage. You have to have a healthy balance been real life and computer life!

LittleMel (6484) | 6 months ago | you're right I did forget eating properly and missed my yoga schedule too the house chores I couldn't skip it because house will smell if not but yeah I did look terrible when customers came they didn't say it but I could see it in the mirror I looked like half asleep I really loved the graphics, as if I lived in actual elf land or something but thanks to recession and obscene comments from other players it made me stopped playing I felt bad the good players I met but nothing I can do

33. mtdewgurl74 (10310) | 6 months ago | I love playing online games! I just wish I had time to do them.. Oh I would but then alot of the other stuff I do would suffer and I wouldn't be making a cent..lol I love going to the IWON game site and Winster site. They are two good game sites. They also give you opportunity to win stuff but so far I haven't but I have played for St.Jude Charity on IWON. That makes me feel better at playing the games and doing as my husband says "wasting my time" when I should be doing other stuff. I am not completely addicted but I can play for hours and let my housework fall behind and mail..
