Do You Grate Carrots For Salad, Or Chop Them?

My husband made me a wonderful salad for dinner tonight, with grated carrots in it. I like carrots grated. They are much easier to chew. My mother, who also makes great salads, tends to chop carrots as opposed to grating then. My husband and I were discussing this tonight, and we both concluded that we prefer grated carrots. What do you prefer?

well, they are easier to chew, but the chewing burns a few calories....

My high school had black and gold as their colors, so there was a standard salad we called black and gold salad. It was shredded carrots with raisins in it.

I make mine chopped or cut up. Grated carrots are easier to eat though. UI have had them that why when I have went out to eat. I have never thought about grating carrots up before until now. It sounds like a great idea.

I always grate mine. My husband does not like the taste of them so I grate them so he can barely taste them. I have ate them chooped before and like it that way also. It all depends on who is eating it.

I usually grate. I love carrots that way. I use it not only in salads but also to garnish plates and give them some nice color. I tried the chopping, but I didn't like it as much, so we're sticking with grated in our home too :)

Grated carrots are easier to chew and baby carrots with Ranch dressing are the bomb!

I use to grate the salad if it is necessary and even they want grated carrots for salad, but mostly i like on my salad a medium chop carrots on salad, because it is much tastier and wonderful if you present your salad with medium slice of carrots, and much color when you look it.

Yes, I prefer my carrots grated, and sometimes, I'll mix them with peanuts in a vinaigrette. I don't know why I prefer them that way; probably because that's the way I was brought up. I've used chopped carrots as a dipper vegetable, but never in salad. Brightest Blessings.

It doesn't really matter to me, since I love carrots anyway they are served. I never grate them for my own salads, since I don't want to take the time to do it, but I can always eat carrots for a snack or even cooked as a vegetable with a meal. When my kids were growing up, I had to put more carrots in a roast than I did potatoes!!

I grate my carrots for just about everything I put them on. I do chop them when cooking a roast but most times, I'm grating them. It's much easier to chew when they're hard like they are but when cooked, it doesn't matter how they are done. lol

I like my carrots grated too for the same reason, it's easier to chew. I now have bottom dentures so having things either grated, and what not to make easier to eat is in my corner. lol Like biting into a sandwich is nearly impossible anymore so I cut it up in little bites now. It is something that one has to get used to.

i prefer grated carrots in salad. However i tend to put chopped carrots in when I'm n a hurry - I keep my grater stashed in a top cupboard because i rarely use it so i just chop things when im in a rush.

I prefer grated carrots too. I have always chopped my carrots but like you when my husband makes salads he grates the carrots. I don´t like to clean my grater so I don´t use it as much as him. I think that when they are grated they seem sweeter and you can eat alot more of them.

I love it any ways. we usually have grated ones for cooking as u need not to over cook them and the others for salad. My mother keeps lots of carrots on the dining table for easy access for all of us. Try carrots cut into small piceses and put some spices along with half lemon u will loveeeeeeeeeeee it

carrots? I thought those were just for rabbits!! :) We rarely make salad at home, hence my large behind! I did have a salad when we went out for lunch today. I think the lettuce blend had shredded carrots in it. Then I added tomato, cucumber, cheese & blue cheese dressing. There weren't any croutons or bacon bits! :(

I like them grated in my salads. I used to make a salad for my kids in the fall that I nicknamed cranky salad. I liked to fix it especially if they were seeming cross, because I felt that they were missing some important nutrition. The salad had Carrots, Raisins, Apples, Nuts, and Kohlrabi. I grated the carrots and kohlrabi. They liked it when they were little, but I am sure they would not like it now. I grew Kohlrabi that year in the garden. It was a funny plant. Grated carrots are good for carrot cake. I like the little baby carrots steamed with a hint of orange.

I love salads and I love carrots. I would prefer grated carrots, because it can make salad very juicy and tasty. In general I eat carrots everyday in form of raw, grated or juiced... HUGS

I like to out grated carrots into a coleslaw salad but as a snack I like to nibble on sliced carrots dipped in salt and mayonnaise. My son likes to have whole carrots on his salad but he ends up with a separate salad as does not like any kind of salad dressing whereas I can't eat an undressed salad.
