Well Slap my Wrist and Call me Pagan! |
|
Several years ago when I first got online for more than "Hi, how are ya?" I signed up to a website because I liked their E-cards. I hardly used them though and frankly forgot all about them. Several days ago I received an email from them, the thrust of their message being:
"We want to show the world how important it is to be able to share the Christian faith and that starts with publicly declaring 'I am a Christian'. Sign the declaration today, and enjoy the freedom we have to call ourselves Christians.
Make your declaration now!"
Well I politely declined. I told them that as much as I enjoyed their E-cards, as a now practicing Wiccan, I couldn't participate in their 'public declaration' which entailed adding my name to their online mailing list and having it go who knows where all over the net.
I thought that was the end of it.............. The other day a friend sent me an E-card. And I thought........oh, cool, I'll send one back from the website I have bookmarked.
Well slap my wrist and call me Pagen, because I have now been BANNED from that E-card site! I couldn't get access. So I emailed the admin and this morning I received a terse reply:
"We regretfully inform you that we believe you joined our Christian site under false pretences. May God forgive you for your pagan ways. We can not."
Well needless to say, I've thinned out my bookmarks and made an offering to the Goddess that these 'Christians' one day understand that love and tolerance and understanding comes in many guises...........and not all of them through "Christian Soldiers"!
What's the last website you got banned from (besides mylot! lol)?

11. reinydawn (4236) | 6 months ago | Oh My Goodness!! That's almost too funny! Those people that are just way out there kinda have no clue!
I've been banned from Craigslist because I was posting too many ads. I was "working" for this one web site and it seems they didn't like a million people posting the same thing so they banned people after a while. I was one of them. Eh, it's my own fault because I don't know that the ones I was submitting for were totally legit - although they did pay me pretty good while it lasted!

sparkofinsanity (3525) | 6 months ago | Anyone can have a website these days reiny. Why not Christians with rather twisted views of Christianity...............to each his own. As for getting banned from Craig's List. Now THAT'S funny! LOL

reinydawn (4236) | 6 months ago | NO!! It's not funny! I was making like $20/week on that... It was good while it lasted though!

12. royal52gens (3309) | 6 months ago | I thought Christians were supposed to have such open hearts and all. They are supposed to welcome everyone into the fold. Well, at least that is what I was taught when I attended Catholic school for 8 years. It is okay. Pagan, Wiccan or whatever....you are still my friend. I will not ban you from my heart.
| |
| |
|
|
sparkofinsanity (3525) | 6 months ago | Oh hells bells Royal, if you did ban my from your heart, you'd break mine! Seriously! And you know, it's been my experience that Catholics (since Vatican Council II anyway), are much more accepting of all people's whatever their belief system was, into their fold than most Christian sects. So you learned well grasshopper! lol

13. darkjedi1 (752) | 6 months ago | Well I think we all know what the last website I got banned from, and well this site is actually the only site I have ever gotten banned from lol. Believe it or not lol. How damn stupid and oh so unchristian like of them. If they truly followed the word of god and the bible and jesus they would have welcomed you with open arms and not judged you or anything like that, after all jesus didnt.

So, that's why you had to request me again, cause I thought you were already on my list. SHYTE!
And I think I kinda said the same thing you did, too, about the being unchristian like themselves.

sparkofinsanity (3525) | 6 months ago | Wowza DJ, you look so naked with that tiny post number beside you! LOL
I truly think it was the 'pagan' bit that got under their skin and turned them off. Some Christian sects have a real problem with paganism. Like, if we're witches then we have more power than them, and heaven knows that's just not acceptable! LOL So burn us at the stake and roast the marshmallows!

darkjedi1 (752) | 6 months ago | Hell sparks that would have gotten under my skin too, and I would have told them exactly what I thought of their idiot selves. Sigh yes, this 20 right now sucks so damn muhc.

14. savypat (7716) | 6 months ago | Welcome to the outside looking in, but never back. Thank God we live in America where we can believe what is reasonable to us and even tell people about it. I got thrown out of Catholic girls school for asking anti Christ questions. After that nothing really bothered me, and intolerance is nothing to me but ignorance. I does make me feel good when the popular religions are willing to acknowledge certain truths that those of us out side have already known. The Catholic church as even accepted that humanity is not alone in the universe. Blessings

sparkofinsanity (3525) | 6 months ago | There are Christians and there are Christians Annie and they aren't all equal in their belief systems. One thing they all have in common though is a deep rooted belief in the evils of paganism. Look at Cromwell. Look at the witch hunts. All those good bible thumpers burning people at the stake for being witches...........

mentalward (4292) | 6 months ago | Sparks, your last response here reminded me of when I went to Oklahoma City to see the Rolling Stones in their 40 Licks concert tour. We were all waiting outside at a side door (those of us who had won contests to meet the fellas) when a guy carrying a soap box (yes, I said soap box!) with about 15 or so followers, put his box down on the corner, stood up on it and began preaching about the evils of rock and roll and how we were all going to Hell.
I had one fleeting moment thinking that I might not make it out of there alive! I was waiting for this guy to put the stake up and pile the firewood around it!
Lovely people, those, eh?

sparkofinsanity (3525) | 6 months ago | You're the kind of Christian, that most pretend to be and fall short of........Kinda makes me wonder though if the site I ran afoul of would even approve of you. lol Like I said to Annie, there are all kinds of Christians, and those that don't practice what they preach are really no kind of Christian at all. I'll take yours over theirs any day Irish!

19. baldypriest (284) | 6 months ago | My first thought upon reading this? "Wow." My second thought? "Why am I surprised?"
I go to a Catholic college that, while many people are fairly relaxed with their views on other religions, there are always those people who go "OMG, it's a pagan/wiccan/atheist/agnostic/etc.! RUN AWAY!" I think many religious constructs get in the way of attempting to understand that everyone is going to do their own thing, whether we like it or not. I think it's quite sad and ridiculous that people are willing to toss out other people just because of their beliefs. I've never been banned from anything for my religious (or lack thereof) beliefs, but I've endured and seen other people endure some really harsh, unfair criticism and other types of rejection.
Hmmm... I haven't been banned from any site, but I've had accounts hacked on other sites.

20. rowantree (656) | 6 months ago | Well Oh My Goddess, that is hilariously funny! I can't believe you were BANNED from a free e-mail card site! LMAO!
I haven't been banned from a website yet. Whenever I get Christian-y emails, I just delete them. If I would have received an email like the one you did, asking me to sign a declaration, I would have just deleted it & went on my merry way. I admire you, for emailing back and letting them know where you stand!

sparkofinsanity (3525) | 6 months ago | I actually had to laugh too. I mean, really, how silly can it get? Like anyone would really know I was pagan, especially if I'm sending CHRISTIAN E-cards! LOL I can still be pagan but appreciate the belief systems of the people I send cards to. Surely that's MORE Christian than the treatment I got? LOL
