good news atlast |

I got good news, you guys know the pressure I have been under about moving and afraid that I would be on the street on the lst of july,
then the landlord said he couldn't leave because I told I couldn't find a place, and therefore my lease had to continue,
but he wanted 100 dollars more a month and I said I could not pay that which I couldn't and so we were under so much stress, that I was literally too ill even to stay up during the day,
he said he would think about lowering the amount he wanted, but he never got back to me,
well tonight he did come back with an offer instead of 100 dollars more it was gonna 30 dollars more and I said that was too much. And so he said okay for this year he will leave the rent the same as it is and he will fix the back yard I am so amazed and happy.
Next year he said to be prepared for the big raise since he is not going to do any repairs this year it will be all done next year.
I will worry about next year when next year comes, but for now I am happy.
Finally after three full months of stress I can relax again.
so what is going on in your lives, anything bad or good happen to you recently?

winterose (17625) | 6 months ago | as I have been telling everyone,
no I cannot pay the rent increase he is askign for 100 a month I don't have that money,
and I would have to contest it if I want to stay next year.
I will decide when he gives me the notice of the rent increase,
in the meantime I cannot find a place, that is my problem and I will only know what is available for july next year between April 1 and June 30th that is the way our system works here in montreal.

winterose (17625) | 6 months ago | yeah he is well aware that he could not legally demand that kind of money and he was trying to strong arm me thinking I would cave in. I will end up going through this again next year but I have to wait until it happens,
this is not a situation that can be dealt with in advance according to our housing laws here in montreal.

23. pergammano (1964) | 6 months ago | I truly...truly...truly am PLEASED that you have been given one small break, my dear friend! You've had enough curve balls for a while! At least you have a year to look for something else! Not that that isn't a lot of pressure and stress, but it isn't so predominant that you can't at least take a moment to "seize the day!" I really hope, winterose, that with this pressure off, that you can take a moment to enjoy the summer! Please be good to yourself...and Cheers!

winterose (17625) | 6 months ago | I was prepared, I couldn't find anything, the same thing will happen next year unless the economy changes. I have only between April 1 and June 30th to find something,
I used all the resources available to me, I went everywhere applying, I did everything I had to do,
and I know all the laws and resources available in my city,
next year we will go through the same thing but I am not worried about that now, there is nothing I can do about it now anyhow, I have to wait and do it when the time comes.

winterose (17625) | 6 months ago | I was totally researched and prepared this year but I still could not find a place, they were not accepting me,
I have only a window of April 1 to June 30th to find a place that is our law here, so I have to wait until next year, because now my lease is renewed until that time,
trust me I know every avenue in this city I did hours and hours of research and called every organization in the city they also could not find me anything.
I also know the housing laws and can only work within them.
right now there a hundreds of families out on the street in montreal because they could not find a place for July 1, I am fortunate I am not one of them.

winterose (17625) | 6 months ago | thank you my friend, and I will pray for you that your situation improves as well, there nothing worse in life that not having a home to live in or enough money to pay the basics like the rent or food and utilities.

winterose (17625) | 6 months ago | thank you sweetie, yep he would rather have a rented place then one empty and he knew his rent increase was illegal anyhow. He relented because he knew I was not going to pay that rent increase anyhow.

cynthiann (3061) | 6 months ago | Oh, now I remember. I had forgotton that the rent hike was ilegal!

winterose (17625) | 6 months ago | I was not in the wrong, the landlord was and that is why he relented because he did not want to take it to court because he knew he would lose. His raise was illegal, that is why he did not enforce it, nobody in the building accepted that raise, nobody. But the issue is I wanted to move, I just didn't find anything else,
he wanted to force me to stay as well, he could not legally I gave my notice legally, it just happened that I did not find a place, so it worked out for both of us. But he was wrong all the way through that is why he is not fighting it,
What you don't realize is that my landlord is not a nice man, everyone in the building cannot stand him because he has done bad things with everyone.
