I got good news, you guys know the pressure I have been under about moving and afraid that I would be on the street on the lst of july,
then the landlord said he couldn't leave because I told I couldn't find a place, and therefore my lease had to continue,
but he wanted 100 dollars more a month and I said I could not pay that which I couldn't and so we were under so much stress, that I was literally too ill even to stay up during the day,
he said he would think about lowering the amount he wanted, but he never got back to me,
well tonight he did come back with an offer instead of 100 dollars more it was gonna 30 dollars more and I said that was too much. And so he said okay for this year he will leave the rent the same as it is and he will fix the back yard I am so amazed and happy.
Next year he said to be prepared for the big raise since he is not going to do any repairs this year it will be all done next year.
I will worry about next year when next year comes, but for now I am happy.
Finally after three full months of stress I can relax again.

All of our bills got behind due to my husband being out of work and I have had to write bad checks to pay bills that were due for disconnect so I have overdrawn my account by about $300, plus I have another bill due tomorrow. I hate this.

here in canada according to our laws if I wrote bad checks I would loss my bank account, my boyfriend has overdraft protection but I cannot get it because I am not working. | |

cause I know how that feels to be in an impossible
rent situation.
Our landlord (at the other house where we used to live)
hiked our rent three times.
Actually four times. When we moved in, he was paying utilities
and that was included in the rent payment of $600
and then within six months, he stopped so we ended
up paying an additional $100 to $150 monthly
for utilities.
Then he raised rent again by $50.
Then he wanted $10 to keep up the yard.
Then he raised it again about a year late
to $710, an additional $50.
By the end we were spending almost $900 to stay
in that house including utilities
and the place was falling apart.
We were so afraid to talk to him about
fixing stuff up in the house, cause we
knew he would charge us even more money for
rent.
So we just did the best we could.
Then about three months ago, I found
a trailer for sale on Craigs list
and bought it, sight unseen.
Guess God must have been with me,
cause the trailer deal went through
and now we own our own 'home',
albeit a trailer and are only
paying lot rent of $240 monthly,
plus we are saving on water bill
of $40, which is included.
So it's almost as if lot rent is only $200,
cause the water bill would be $40 by itself.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that things
have a way of working out even when you see
no hope.
Maybe you'll get some more article writing gigs
or something.
And that will help pay the rent increase.
You never know.

but here in montreal we have laws on how much a rent can be hiked up and his was absolutely illegal and that is why he is didn't pursue it because he knew he would loss. So that is wonderful for me, but I still need to get out of here for health reasons.
I am happy you got out that place, that landlord could not do that to you if you lived here in montreal, you would refuse the rent increase and set a copy to the rental board, then if he persisted, which he probably wouldn't he would lose and the rent would remain the same and he could not evict you.
her is montreal if you are paying your own utilities a rent increase can only be .6 percent
if the landlord is paying the utilities it is 6 percent
and if he has done major repairs, then he can add on 4% but that is all. | |

Anyway I would like to suggest you to start finding a new house there. So you will be prepared next year, and will not have anymore troubles.
I don't guess your landlord will be so patient again the next year, so better you start finding your new house right now, so that you have all the time you need to find a good on at the price you can afford.

and secondly our laws are different here in canada, the window for looking for places is between April 1 and June 30th that is the time for moving, July first is moving day for everyone.
I would be breaking the law and the lease if I moved before that time and the landlord can come after me for back rent because I am locked in until July 1, 2010 like everyone else.
I have never done a moonlight flip as they call it here and I would be too nervous to even try it. | |

So when you do move you will have it. Only thing going on right now is my Car is still acting up. I need a Radiator, My Husband trcked me and told me his was goig to buy me another car, and he didn't so I am stuck with this Old as Car. 1987 Big as Station Wagan, which is a gas Guzzler.

| winterose (17741) | 6 months ago | it doesn't work like that here in montreal, our laws are different we only have between April 1 and June 30th to find a place, and I did every thing in my power this year to find a place and didn't find on,
there is no need for security you sign lease and pay your months rent, all our places are rent on a yearly basis that is why you can only find one between april 1 and June 30th for July 1st. July lst is moving day for everyone in the city.
The news reported that hundreds of people did not find a place to stay for July l, that is why I am thankful it worked out for me for this year at least, but it will be the same garbage again next year. | |

| winterose (17741) | 6 months ago | my landlord is a jerk, he is not doing anything for me, only for himself, he is afraid he won't rent the place if I go, that is his motivation and he even told me so.
he tried to strong arm me into paying that ridiculous rent increase and he knows it is illegal so that is why he let up on it, he does not want to fight and lose in court.

and I do not know anyone who does not try to solve the problem of being homeless. Everyone here looks like crazy during moving time to find a place to live,
in fact it is so bad finding places to live in montreal that hundreds of people are now homeless because they could not find anything. | |

I like to sit down with a good book and just get lost in it. I have a whole stack of books to go through for this weekend and a free class at the library on Microsoft Power Point tomorrow. My teacher for the past year found another job and this will be his last class before he moves. I have learned a lot from these classes and hope they will continue them. However it works out, I will still be able to use the computers at the library (they have the most up to date programs) to practice on. All in all this summer has been very good.
