good news atlast |
|

I got good news, you guys know the pressure I have been under about moving and afraid that I would be on the street on the lst of july,
then the landlord said he couldn't leave because I told I couldn't find a place, and therefore my lease had to continue,
but he wanted 100 dollars more a month and I said I could not pay that which I couldn't and so we were under so much stress, that I was literally too ill even to stay up during the day,
he said he would think about lowering the amount he wanted, but he never got back to me,
well tonight he did come back with an offer instead of 100 dollars more it was gonna 30 dollars more and I said that was too much. And so he said okay for this year he will leave the rent the same as it is and he will fix the back yard I am so amazed and happy.
Next year he said to be prepared for the big raise since he is not going to do any repairs this year it will be all done next year.
I will worry about next year when next year comes, but for now I am happy.
Finally after three full months of stress I can relax again.
so what is going on in your lives, anything bad or good happen to you recently?

61. libby2009 (1569) | 6 months ago | Winterose,
I'm glad to hear you are able to stay in your home.
I have to agree with Pye though. I know landlord/tenant law very well but I don't know what they are for Canada. You should still be prepared for the worst to come. He may have let you stay for now but he may use the law as leverage next year to his advantage.

winterose (17896) | 6 months ago | I am prepared and the law is different in canada and I am following the law, the landlord gave up because he knew he would loss in court, all he wanted to do is strong arm me into paying an illegal rent increase and it didn't work,
trust me, I was leaving because I wanted to leave the place, mainly for health reasons, I would have been gone now had I found something which I didn't and that is the only reason why I am still here.
Our laws are different from american laws and I know them very well. Incidently nobody in the building paid that ridiculous rent increase, everyone told him to go to he__L

62. jdyrj777 (2335) | 6 months ago | Im so happy for you!!! Please remember to thank God (Jahovah) for that. Now you know you have a year to figure out if you will continue on there or move. You will have time to shop around for a better rent if you need to. Im renting the basement of my sons friends house. About a month ago we had a really bad hail storm. Actually we had many of them. The back bedrm where i was storing stuff got soaked. The water entered through the back window. I knew there had been problems like that back there before so everything was on pallets. I had to move everything out of there. So i started perparing for a series of garage sales. I also had a drop in my income. So i was starting to think of putting stuff in storage and moveing into my camper. Then i figured i could just tell the landlord i dont want to rent the whole basement. Thats the way it was when i first moved in here. So im guessing thats what i will do till at least the end of the summer. But eventually i will move into the camper. Because i really dont want to share the bath room with who ever hes gonna rent the back room to. I just wanna get some work done to the camper before moving in it.

winterose (17896) | 6 months ago | I really only have the same time I had this year, from April 1 to June 30th of next year to find something, our laws here in Canada are different, so I will have this situation again next year,
but for now I am happy and can relax for the summer and look as diligently as I did this year next april,
btw there are 100's of families who are homeless this year, they could not find anything for June 30th, I feel so bad for them but I am so thankful that I am not one of them.

jdyrj777 (2335) | 6 months ago | I dont know how all the tennet/landlord laws are. Here some apts ask you to sign another lease some dont after the first lease ends. All require you to give a 30 day notice. Fortunately im rent now from my sons friend. No leases required. I have told him when i move i will let him know 30 days ahead so he can find another renter.
So with the laws there is there time to allow you time to find another place? I mean till that time comes you can check prices of other places and least you can have a general idea of what rents are.

63. raghul77ster (1263) | 6 months ago | Hi winterose,
sorry for coming late. that doesnt matter here. I am very happy that your head ache was been solved now, which is eventhough temporary, you have a long time. Anyway, make ideas for your next move. As Oreocookie state, just think the way, any thing can happen anytime. So always be alert to face any situation. Here I just wish you to pass a few words said by Bret Hart, Former WWF champion, Wrestler, when he was inducted in Hall of Fame 2006. "The best chance you have if you want to rise to the top, is to give yourself up to loneliness. Fear nothing, and work hard. Life is based less than you think on what you've learned, and much more than you think on what you have inside you right from the beginning." Have a nice time!

winterose (17896) | 6 months ago | I have legal constraints and I cannot do anything before next year, when he states what his rent increase is next year that is when I can make a move, and refuse it, if it is illegal and it will be illegal,
and \I cannot tell him I am leaving before next year on April 1, that is our law that is why I said what I said in the discussion,
I am okay until next year and everything starts over again.

64. hdjohnson (1173) | 6 months ago | That is indeed wonderful and heartwarming news winterose. I'm so glad that you can be at peace and remain independent for now. Better start with your action plan and work on another place and be ready within the next 10 months at least. You're in my prayers over this situation and when next year comes, you'll be even more happy as you have an even better place/situation than you have right now. Thanks for sharing with us.

winterose (17896) | 6 months ago | the lease is binding by law, I can only look for another place between april 1 and June 30th like I did this year.
I Just hope that I will be able to find something in that time. but that is next year, if I find anything before that I will be breaking the law to move, so I don;t know if I want to do that, I will be legally responsible to pay this rent and the rent where I move to and of course I cannot afford both.
| |
|
|
hdjohnson (1173) | 6 months ago | No, I'm not wanting you to break the law either. But if you start your search early, like around maybe February or March with the intent on moving into a place with your contract is up. Most places will hold a place in their complex for a period of 30 days with a security deposit or something like that. For instance, when we moved from our home into this townhome community we are in now. We put the deposit for the place down and they held the apartment we are in for a period of 3 weeks until both the apartment was ready and we were ready to move into it. The deposit only proved that we were going to move into their available apartment. It was only refundable if the apartment wasn't ready when we agreed to move into it. My prayer is that it will work out for your good in the time frame in which you need. Whether that means you may have to move, or you get to stay for another year or two or five~ SMILE!

| 65. loganruss (2) | 6 months ago | Let's say your landlord has a heart. On the other hand it would cost more to evict you legally than to extend your lease and meet your demand. You have a whole year to prepare, don't worry about it now. relax!
| |
| |
|
|
winterose (17896) | 6 months ago | he doesn't have a heart, he just felt he would not be able to rent the place so that is why he conceded also he knew he raise was illegal, and he couldn't enforce it.

67. Darkwing (7519) | 6 months ago | That is certainly good news my friend. It gives you far more time to look for somewhere else to live and your landlord is fixing your garden for you. I'm so pleased to hear all this. Perhaps things will start to get on a more even keel now.
Brightest Blessings.

Nice to hear that you problem has already solved. See god is there for those really in need. Dont worry as he keeps his eyes on those in need. Just to advise, I know you said you'll worry about the raise next year as it comes. So here is what I would recommend you to do, try to keep aside a little a month so that you can cover up the increase for next year till you find a place you can really afford. All the best.

| |
|
|
winterose (17896) | 6 months ago | You are missing the point the raise is illegal and I will not pay it next year either.
