sleeps on his back |
|
Boots for some odd reason likes to sleep on his back half the time. He looks so weird like he's dead or something.... or perhaps waiting for a belly rub.
Anyone elses cats sleep on their back?

1. thyst07 (1068) | 6 months ago | My cat does! I regularly find her on the couch, on the bed, or just in a corner on the floor with her belly up and paws sticking in the air. I've read that cats will only sleep like that if they're in an environment they're very comfortable in, because belly-up is a vulnerable position. I noticed that my cat didn't sleep on her back nearly as often when we had another cat around.

2. mrakobesie (754) | 6 months ago | my cat does too... first one of them started doing it, now the other one... he looks very cute when he sleeps on his back... so cute that i just have to come over and hug him... he doesn't mind being woken up though...

3SnuggleBunnies (3596) | 6 months ago | I wonder if my other two will do the same in time as they are lil younger.

|
mrakobesie (754) | 6 months ago | I know my third cat will not do it, because he gets attacked by the other cat lol... he was scared to get off the book shelf for some time... he has very long paws, so high ground are beneficial to his fighting technique, he just slaps other cats back down when they try to attack him... he is getting more comfortable now, but he wouldn't expose his weak spots like that...

3. dragon54u (9864) | 6 months ago | I don't have cats but my dogs both sleep on their sides all stretched out. They don't look very big, and they aren't, but when they stretch out they take up most of the bed and don't leave me much room!

3SnuggleBunnies (3596) | 6 months ago | You want to talk about a crowded bed 2 adults, 2-3 cats & 1-2 kids.... those are the nights no one gets any sleep or I just go sleep in the girls bed, cause no one is there*LOL*

4. MuncheeLee (100) | 6 months ago | Our cats sometimes sleep on their backs. It depends. We pet them and they roll on their backs for kitty belly rubs.
It's a good thing. It means your cat feels very safe and happy. Take it as a compliment.

5. speakeasy (1439) | 6 months ago | Both of my cats sleep on their backs.
Joe lays on his back and pulls his legs up close and folds his front paws up together and sleeps like that.
Russell just flops down on his back with all 4 legs going every which way. He especially likes to sleep like this in chairs.

|
3SnuggleBunnies (3596) | 6 months ago | too cute! So Russell does his own version of a "spread eagle"?
| |
|
|
speakeasy (1439) | 6 months ago | You could call it a "spread eagle"; everything is stretched out in ANY direction (including up in the air!) and his tummy is wide open; a very tempting position for a tummy rub.

6. kittycatnut (215) | 6 months ago | Yes all four of my cats sleep on their backs with their legs up in the air. They usually have their backfeet toes curled up too. They are so cute when they sleep this way with their stomachs exposed. Sometimes they use one front paw to cover their nose. This comes from the forest cats that slept in the wild and while they slept they protected their nose from getting eaten by rats.

7. olydove (491) | 6 months ago | Thank you for posting this, after reading others responses here I feel so much better LOL I was beginning to think my cat thought he was a dog LOL! My Orange tabby loves to lay on his back and sleep with all fours up in the air he's such a goof! Then when we rub his belly he goes wild just like a dog does rolling back and forth turning side to side just crazy but I love it. He makes me laugh:) Glad to know my cat is not the only goofy belly boy!

3SnuggleBunnies (3596) | 6 months ago | Me too! I posted cause I thought it was the strangest thing and these are the only cats I've ever had & he's the one who's been fixed & declawed so I wasn't sure if that had something to do with his chubby lil self doing that or what.
