When The Phone Rules The Day

HA! I get impatient waiting for most things. It's like when the cable or phone company says the technition will be there between 9am and 5pm but doesn't get more specific. You become scared of making a 5 minute run to the corner store for milk or eggs for fear of missing the call or visit or whatever.
When I have to wait like that I pick up a really good book and read. I find that I easily loose track of time when I'm reading something good and forget to clock watch.

It hasn't happened in a long, long time but I do know the feeling. It happened when my car was in for repairs too and the annoying thing was that when the call did eventually come it was just to tell me that I could go and collect it the next day and not the same day as had been the original plan. They were waiting for a spare part which they did not have which wouldn't have come until the following morning

I don't have problems 'killing' time as there are too many things to do and not enough time to do it in Of course then there are those other calls that I know will come but I'm never sure when and I just try hard not to think about them telling myself they will never arrive then it's a surprse when they do. Like the one from the hotel where I was working as a releif receptionist. It took over three months for the call to come telling me they were taking me on permanently That was like winning the lottery when that arrived just over a month ago!

I hope your call came since you wrote this and that your car is back with its rightful owner!

When I take my car in, I just stay and hang out around the mall, shop and check out the stores, and look at the ladies...there are so many of them and they are lovely. I have it all worked out for the day when I take my car in, and I'm geared to slacking off.

Yes! I am waiting on important mail and it is just as bad. It is hard to plan things when you are having to wait. You never know how long the wait can be. I do work on things to try and reduce the stress of waiting. The busier that I can stay, the better.

Hi wolfie, what a useless MOT service you get there, and if I recall if they'd failed it for one little thing they'd have kept it in and wouldn't let you have it back until it was sorted so adding to your frustration and tension. Now imagine this scenario, best to phone up first to warn them you are coming for MOT. Then get the local chappy at the garage to have a quick look and tell you if the car is likely to pass the MOT. Then drive car to town to what I can only describe as the Drive Through MOT centre, leave the car on the first automated platform, go into the office with car paperwork and have a coffee, 20 mins later collect car and drive away, all done for the next 2 years for 80 euros. And if by any chance it fails take it away, get it fixed and bring it back. No stress, no frustration, it's one of the few things out here which is totally hassle free.
Re waiting for the phone to ring I have to have a cheap mobile just in case the school rings for any reason whilst I'm out.
Another reason you've reminded me of why I left England, the fear of having to catch a bus with school kids on it!!!

According to Mr Croc I wander around like a lost soul if I have to wait in for a phone call. I start doing different things but don't finish them, I smoke more and am constantly on edge until the call comes, usually when I've nipped to the loo, which is even more frustrating.

Hey wolfie! I am so bad when it comes to waiting for a phone
call! To me that is one of the worst things in the world!
That and waiting for test result from the doctor! Pretty
much the same thing as far as I'm concerned! I have about
a zero tolerance on the patience scale! So I know how it
feels to have to wait and then to be stressed about taking
a bus, possibly in rush hour or when the kids will be getting
out of school! Hell, I really know how you must be feeling!

more than anything...i think id be less anxious if i was waiting for the results to my cancer scan..lol... that drives me insane...and for some reason nothin else will ocupie my...tv...nothin...not even mylot (SORRY HUNNY...I STILL LOVE U MYLOT)...i dunno why...its worst then when i was kid waiting for christmas to hurry up and come...besides i dont get sick from it...lol

Yes, I HATE waiting for calls! Mostly because I find businesses are SO unreliable, and the call never comes - secondly, I hate phones! I hate making calls (and never do if I can help it - it's a phobia of mine) - and if the phone rings at home I check the number. If it's not a family member I don't answer it, and especially not if it says 'private' or 'unavailable', which usually means it's somebody trying to sell me another phone service! Last year I took my Dad to the local private hospital for an eye operation. It was going to take three or four hours, so they told me to go home and they'd phone when Dad was done. I waited and waited ... and in the end, I decided to drive over there. When I got there, Dad had been waiting for me - and nobody had called me! You can't trust anyone - except yourself! (I hope your car was ready before school got out ...)
