How Many Pills do You take Daily? |
It occurred to me this morning as I was laying out my medications to take that I am swallowing a huge number of pills. In the mornings I take 2 for hypertension, one fish oil and glucosamine, one baby aspirin, one cholesterol, one diuretic plus vitamins.
In the evenings I take hypertension tablets again (in case you do not know it, most heart attacks and strokes are in the early hours of the morning so the hypertension meds should be evenly divided for 24 hour protection. Then more for cholesterol, plus two other medications for my heart problem. What a load to take!
I"ll have to get one of those pill boxes that sorts out meds for the mornings and evenings for a week.
What medications do you take?

1. thowell (2771) | 5 months ago | How many do I take? Or how many am I supposed to take? That is the question. heehee I am supposed to take 8 per day, I am lucky if I take one. pills are hard for me to swallow and I hate taking anything, so yea I am a rebel. If I feel I can get away without taking them, I don't.

cynthiann (3145) | 5 months ago | But if you need them to keep healthy shouldn't you take them? Couldn't you crush them or something and put the powder in something sweet to swallow?
| |
thowell (2771) | 5 months ago | some I can, but just a couple, the others are not as effective according to the Dr. Yes, I should take them, but they get stuck and no matter what I do, they are still there, It scares me

cynthiann (3145) | 5 months ago | I have a young friend who has the same problem. Her father was an abusive man who happened to be a doctor and she was the one who would stand up for her mother when the father physically abused the mother. He would force her to take Valium twice a day and from that to this day she cannot swallow a pill. She has to crush them up an sweetened milk to take them. I was so sorry for her when she told me this. The man is still practicing but the marriage broke up about 12 years ago. Their mother could not take it any more and finally moved out. don't take me wrong I am not saying that there is an emotional reason why you cannot swallow pills - but your response just reminded me of this event

Binthu (3334) | 5 months ago | Generally when the peoples are get old and older may they are facing lots of problems like joint pain, heart attach, mild sugar, hypertension, etc., so we must need the medicines prior to control all and also enjoy our life without any more fear. But most of the cases if we are started some medicines for the hypertension then we have to continue for long times till the pressure will be reduced. So in other words we can not neglect the doctor's advise completely because of the high risk.

2. kezabelle (2671) | 5 months ago | Just the one but that is bad enough! I take a pill for my kidney condition just one a day but it will be for ever for the rest of my life in the hope it will, while not preventing the need, at least stop me requiring a kidney transplant for a good many years yet.
Although when my back is bad i take several pain pills a day (tramadol) because it is the only way I can get out of bed, sad to say im only 25 aswell but apart from that im actually really healthy believe it or not lol

4. kykidd (4623) | 5 months ago | I only take one pill a day. I take a store brand omeprezole for my heart burn. If I don't take this pill, wow can I feel it. Of course, it takes a couple of days to wear off, and then a couple of more days to go back into effect. So it is a dreaded thing if I miss it...I am dreading the heartburn.
I think it would be a good idea for you to get one of those pill boxes that separates all of the pills by days of the week and by morning and afternoon. I know people who have these, and it saves a little time by sorting them all at once for a whole week.

5. dreamr802 (779) | 5 months ago | I only take 1 pill daily and that's my birth control. But if I'm sick I have to take more pills...I'm usually on some sort of antibiotic for my ear infections and sinus infections...

cynthiann (3145) | 5 months ago | I used to suffer a lot of ear infections. It was a nurse that discovered what was wrong. The wax in my ears did not drain out naturally and if I use waxsol or something like that a few times a week I do not get an infection. The wax inn the ear gets nice and moist and breeds bacteria. The pain was horrible. why don't you try this for a say 3 nights a week in a row and see if the wax will come out?
| |
dreamr802 (779) | 5 months ago | Thanks for the advice, they've been looking in my ears and wax buildup isn't the problem. They think it's something with my ear canal...my dad is trying to find me an ENT and see what he says. It's to the point where I've had so many ear infections that I don't feel the pain until my ear is completely blocked.
| |
cynthiann (3145) | 5 months ago | I was hoping that this would solve your problem as I suffered for 20 years until it was found out what was wrong. The pain is awful, I so remembered how I suffered. I do hope that you can gt it sorted out soon so that you do not suffer - you could lose some hearing and this has happened to me also. Not much - but some in one ear. many blessings
| |
Binthu (3334) | 5 months ago | Hi Cynthian,
When you have the problems in the ear you must visit to the ENT specialist to check properly in order to treat the pain immediately, and as you have said that the waxol is one of the best ear wax solution which remove the excess of wax in the ears, but at the same time we need the help from the ENT doctor to remove the wax by the special types of machine which will remove the wax from the ear by sucking, then you will feel good relax after your pain is gone. So better to remember that if you have similar problems again then you must visit to the doctor ( ENT ) immediately.
| |
cynthiann (3145) | 5 months ago | How both kind and knowledge you are my friend. I will take your advice and see an ENT specialist

6. Binthu (3334) | 5 months ago | Hi Cynthiann,
Look likes you are taking more medicines for the hypertension, cholesterol, baby aspirin, fish oil, glucosamine for the pain, etc., so you must take more care and also do follows lots of good procedure. You have to add lots of fruits and vegetables on your diet and also to avoid totally all types of meat, and other related products which are containing high amount of cholesterol, and also try to be relax more as much as possible in order to maintain your heart health, and also you have to try your best to have the good sleep.
Just taking the care of good and balanced diet foods, with good sleeping, and happy mind will ensure your health as well as your mood. With god grace I never been taking any medication and also try my best to enjoy my life as much as possible.
Have a great day.
Best of luck.

7. astonysh (1914) | 5 months ago | Up to having my heart attack last year, I could have quite happily and honestly answered "none".
I never did believe too much in interfering with the body's natural cycle, even if you could improve its functioning if you really knew what you were doing with the right input.
Following my heart attack, I am now obliged to take one and a half beta blockers, one tablet to thin any bad cholestrol, one aspirin, and one tablet to lower blood pressure. Without them my future existence would be uncertain, and I love my wife too much to cause her any more concern than is necessary.
| |
| |
| his0yir (94) | 5 months ago | To astonysh: you did really well I have to say, without taking any pill until prescribed medication. No matter how perfectly we lead our lifestyle, when the function of the body goes down, we have to rely on tablets. Of course our body can still carry on without any treatment but in the modern time we can achieve longivity and enjoy better quality of life with the help of tablets. It is certainly a sensible thing to do.

Binthu (3334) | 5 months ago | Appreciating good answer too. Being as a younger we have to appreciate the good health of the elder because it is a gift from the God and also we can not say that how many peoples are having the chance to be alive in this world, under the high age group, so better to tack more care as much as possible in order to live in this world without any more complication or problems in the health.

8. dawnald (10177) | 5 months ago | Hm, glucosamine/chondroitin/msm, multi-vitamins, calcium, and a whole bunch of homeopathic and natural stuff for arthritis, fibromyalgia and other conditions. The only prescription I have is for Skelaxin, which is a muscle relaxant!
| |
| |
dawnald (10177) | 5 months ago | The worst was a disk injury that I had, but that is so much better. The fibro and the arthritis don't bother me that much. I generally don't even take pain meds unless I do something to piss it off (like sit too much or lift things or whatever).
| |
| his0yir (94) | 5 months ago | To dawnald: have you tried magnesium for fibromyalgia? A friend of mine used to suffer from it (though I don't know why it stopped troubling him now), and he found out taking a large dose of magnesium help to ease the syndrome. Even now he still take it regularly.
| |
cynthiann (3145) | 5 months ago | Disc problems can be a nightmare to deal with. Am glad that you do not have too much pain to deal with - that would be worse than a nightmare.
| |
dawnald (10177) | 5 months ago | I take magnesium citrate, but for other reasons.
The disk problem was solved by seeing a chiropractor who uses a device called a disk pump. Way better than surgery or epidurals or any of that far as I'm concerned!
| |
cynthiann (3145) | 5 months ago | of COURSE - ANYTHING IS BETTER THAN SURGERY. My sister is having back surgery next Tuesday and I am so concerned for her. she was in a car accident and had to lay there in the car for 4 hours until she was cut free. The injuries have on by emerged over the past 2 months and she needs her spine shaved to release the pressure on her nerves. I really am concerned for her as she can only stay up a few hours a day at present as the pain is so severe. Chiropractor any day for me.
| |
Binthu (3334) | 5 months ago | Hi Dawnald,
Taking lots of medicines for the various disorder especially for your disk problems, and also most of your medicines are pain killers and muscle relaxants, so try to change your diet with high source of calcium and also add lots of milk along with fruits and milk which will supports and boosts your health, in order to have the strong bones as well as to reduce the pains in the disk.

9. jillhill (11811) | 5 months ago | If I remember to I take two...an vitamin and a glucosamine and that's it.....I do however sometimes take an ibprofen....if needed.....I do have the fish oil ones in the cupboard but haven't taken one in a while....I keep forgetting!
| |
| |
cynthiann (3145) | 5 months ago | It is very important to take the fish oil ones as it has been proven to help protect your heart. So please dig them out wherrever they are and begin to take them. Also a low dosage or baby aspirin can reduce your risk of heart attack or strokes by nearly 50% - and that is a lot. I've taken a baby aspirin for about 20 years. Ask your docor about taking it. It is a great blood thinner
| |
dawnald (10177) | 5 months ago | One thing on the fish oil though - the naturopath I'm seeing said to make sure that it was fresh. If it smells fishy at all, it's gone rancid and can do more harm than good!
| |
cynthiann (3145) | 5 months ago | Thanks Dawn - I did not know this although I do check the expiry date on everything
| |
Binthu (3334) | 5 months ago | Fish Oil capsules is one of the best and natural products and containing lots of omega-3 fatty acids which is very important in order to maintain the health of the heart., as well as to reduce the blood pressure and cholesterol. Adding the fish oil capsules everyday will boost the natural energy in order to improve the health of the heart, cholesterol and blood pressure.

cynthiann (3145) | 5 months ago | I am happy that you do not have to take any medication on a regular basis but if you are given tablets then please take all the pills as the illness could return and what is worse is that it may have developed immunity to the drug if it wasn't completely killed out in the first time. Then you have to take stronger medication and that is not good. So please do what your doctor advises you. Many blessings and thanks for responding

Binthu (3334) | 5 months ago | Hi Vickie,
Whenever a doctor prescribed some medicines for your treatments then you must take all properly without any more omission otherwise it may harm you and also to give the sensitive to the particular medicines then finally it will not work on your body if any emergency caused, so better to complete the dose fully in order to eradicate the infections or microbes completely prior to stop any medicines.
