I have high blood pressure and it is very much affected by salt (some people salt doesn't bother, but mine goes crazy esp. with ham or anything salt laden). So I was wondering if anyone had any advice for avoiding salt when making chinese food, but still have the great taste of asian food?

Check with your doctor first, but they make a salt substitute that tastes just like it. It's high in potassium, which is one thing people with high blood pressure usually lack, so it might be good for you, but ask your doctor to be sure. It's important to keep a sodium/potassium balance or you can really cause some problems with your body.

He wants me to add more potassium foods, so I'm sure he would be thrilled with a potassium salt substitute. Thanks Peavey.

I don't cook with salt at all with the exception of broiling salmon. If you are using soy sauce or ingredients like garlic you do not need salt. You just have to get used to the taste. You will find that many vegetables are sweeter when you don't add unnecessary seasonings to them.

Garlic might help. Soy sauce, even the low sodium IS salt. Sweeter veggies like?
Thanks and take care.

I am not very fond of Chinese food so I've never made it at home. My husband loves it so once in awhile we eat Chinese out. It is loaded with salt since I can taste it. Have you tried using any salt substitutes? Or you might try loading the food with onions or some garlic to mask the low salt/no salt flavor. Believe me, I am not a gourmet cook so my advice might be all wrong.
